So Xbox users are just shafted until whenever cockstar decides. Great job.

You can blame Microsoft and their approval process for title updates for that ...

I don't think MS, as sh*tty as they are, are really at fault here when cockstar screwed up in the first place.

The point is, that is the reason for the delay between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. It doesn't absolve Rockstar of anything, but it is the reason for the delay.

Since I'm at work and can't get on. There aren't as many posts now. I'm starting to think things are working? I guess I'll find out tonight.

Okay, after 5 hours this afternoon gaming with a friend, I log back on and see my f*cking character has been deleted, $26000 gone and a garage with 2 cars. Man, I'm pissed.

Hell I finally made it to the race started won and froze lost my character and back to square one. I seriously started thinking online wont be a real option till the new consoles which the game was designed for. Just my opinion

Same thing happened to me 4 times

Be careful people, when the cloud servers are not available you automaticaly go to the character creation centre, but this doesn't mean your character is deleted! UNLESS you create a new one, so just go back to single player and try again later

So the title update didn't work... Grrreat.

Just tried myself.. Got through the first race in the tutorial and in the next loading screen got the message "you were kicked by other players"....

*sigh*

There goes all hope that I'd finally get to play at least a little, but fourth day and it's a no go....

Getting sick of trying altogether....

Well, to say something positive:

The first race finally showed me the settings of the race.. Like "catchup: on" etc.. It was all blank yesterday.

Now that I continued, it actually had saved me completing the first race and gave me the next drug mission.

And it appears, that for the first time, I got to the thir mission and am inside the server with actual players.

So it works better... Even though the cloud still works pretty badly..

Lets see if I can actually play now :O

Heading to a clothes store now.. Yaay.

So am I right in thinking when I try to join GTAonline and it takes me to the character creAtion screen it means the cloud is down? The character slot 1 is greyed out whilst slot 2 and 3 is available. The character I originally created day 1 and completed the first two parts of the tutorial yesterday is gone. It keeps popping up that my freinds are achieving things online and it's pissing me off that I can't get on. Is there another way of knowing if the cloud is down?

if ur having problems loading the first mission still, you have to delete the patch from your system and reload it, and join online play rightaway dont load into to the reg game. worked for my entier crew

You guys call yourself fans of GTA? Why not wait and be patient? On the day of release that's about 8.5 million people jumping onto the online at once, so of coarse things are going to be awful, you try making a game this awesome and keeping it under control 24/7 when 8.5 million people play at the same time the first time this was released public

I guess I will say that I respect your opinion. It's just that it is kind of silly to say how everyone else should feel. I would say that people are pissed off because they are fans. If they didn't give a sh*t would anything be said at all? I am glad you can kick back and relax over it. I am in the same boat. I do however understand that people are a bit upset and rightfully so.

As a person who's been in the business world a long, long time, and in the IT and Networking world just about as long, this isn't a fan problem. This time it is in fact Rockstar who screwed up monumentally. As a corporate entity, you have to set your expectations to align with the fans. There was hardly a complaint worth mentioning that Online play would start two weeks after the launch. Sure some people pissed and moaned, but it wasn't a huge backlash. Expectations were set properly. They informed their consumer base of the date and that was that.

Had they of told their customers that it would be a horrific clusterf*ck that they would be working to fix over the first couple of days, people would piss and moan, but there wouldn't be an astronomic backlash. If people were told upfront they might lose their stuff, their progress, people wouldn't be shocked by it. Again, you would have some pissing and moaning, but not a giant wave of hate coming your way because the expectations were set. The fact of the matter, as much as I love Rockstar, as much as I know about networking and how difficult it would be to build an online world was as GTA Online, Rockstar f*cked up. Plain and simple. The f*cked over their fans by

A: Clearly not going through proper beta testing with the product (which I am sure was to maintain the strictest security possible)

B: Completely underestimating the need of infrastructure on their part to support the traffic requirements

C: Not setting proper expectations for their customers i.e. being open and honest about what to expect

Any technical person would have looked at the launch issues with iFuit alone and known that seriously bad sh*t was going to go down. And don't think for a split second they didn't know things were going to be going to hell and a hand basket on GTA Online's launch day. These things aren't mysteries. They've had online games before. They know that this is one of the biggest franchises in the world.

The real question is who in Rockstar f*cked up. Because I can tell you this much, rarely is it the tech people. They would build a system that could take traffic for everyone in the world to play at the same time if they could. Usually it is a bean counter prick executive who says "no" to all upgrades.

I don't care to point fingers as it is pointless and futile. But don't tell everyone how they should feel. Time is the single most precious commodity any one of us has. We can make more money, buy new sh*t, whatever. Wasting time, you never ever get time back. Once spent, it is gone, and people have a right to be pissed off when you waste their time.

I downloaded the patch this morning and had no issues at all through the whole tutorial. I also didn't lose anything because I didn't waste my time playing a game that was known to not be working and was not saving progress. Amazing how awesome and satisfying patience can be.

Working in IT and Networking means you aren't a child. So after reading this I'm going to hold you to a higher standard than most of the kids on here.

Every highly anticipated game with open world, MMO like features has gone through the same hiccup. (Let's not start throwing FF and Fable in there, because we know WoW and D3 releases made those look like indie games). If you were to put money on a good online release vs a bad online release, would you put money on everything going smoothly? Or would you bet on hiccups occurring?

World of Warcraft

Starcraft 2 (And this isn't even an MMO or open world)

Diablo 3 (The most notably recent example)

Note that when i say highly anticipated, I'm talking years in the waiting. You can't really cite GTA 4 as an example of a crisp online release because GTA 4 Online vs GTA 5 Online are apples and oranges.

World of Warcraft - Not just the very initial release, but there were also times when patches came out, where the patches would cause bugs here and there and random disconnects. And Blizzard extensively tested these patches on PUBLIC test realms.

It's all about making money. They're going to estimate the amount of people they assume is going be representative of an actual number of players logging on - and go from there. Buying tons of servers and then overshooting that number hurts your bottom line. Tell me, if you were in charge of something like this, you wouldn't take the same step to maximize your profit that you just raked in....

Another thing is, treat the GTA 5 Online release much like the construction of a freeway. The freeway's capacity is estimated based on normal conditions. Thus, if a hurricane passes through, everyone's gonna be stuck trying to get out of the city. (Millions trying to log on simultaneously right now = people running from a hurricane.)

The servers are only going to packed to the brim for the first couple months. Then they'll probably never be packed at capacity again. Rockstar is also thinking for themselves. As would any company releasing a hot new product The $60 we all paid wasn't purely for the Online aspect, so we can't say that we were robbed or ripped off, as they are working to fix it, while dealing with criticism from the fans AND media outlets. The fact that you still see updates coming out at 1AM EST means they have people on it. And as a member of the IT/Networking community, you should know how annoying it is when you're being badgered by people who aren't doing anything but complaining when you're already trying your best. (And half the time, said people complaining, have absolutely no idea what they're talking about...much like backseat drivers)

Please remember, Rockstar is not only trying to fix these problems but probably also ensuring that these fixes will work smoothly with the "time released" content that will become available within the coming weeks/months. Not all the "planned" Online features have been implemented according to sources.

I've been leaving my slot 1 character open just in case this is true and my original character resurfaces.

Wouldn't have these issues if actual dedicated servers were used instead of.crappy dedicated servers.
