Update, I'm in (ps3) in Florida, everything seems good so far

good to hear im not the only one. are you alone in the server? have you gotten any messages about the cloud being down?

i was the only one in my server and waited for a while for people to join. i also never got any hint that the cloud was down.

 

p.s. i am in long island ny if it matters to anyone

Devinjames555 is literally the only PS3 user besides myself that i have heard has been able to get through. i have not seen any hint of corrupted saves on my ps3

Anyway, I haven't tried since yesterday and I just tried to log into Online twice - each time it sent me to a completely black screen. I waited 10 minutes each time and nothing ever happened.

I've been getting the servers down message for 45 minutes or so now. Restarted the game and console a number of times as well as retrying from every other angle. Getting a bit sick of watching Michael arrive and leave from places over and over again.

 

PS3 UK btw. I was online for most of the day so far. Rank 8 (nearly).

Unbelievable, another character gone. This is like my 7th character already which seems to be deleted every time my online server chrashes. This is so ridiculous, I don't have any words for this poor and unsatisfying experience. They say that when the game is released, online that is, would be the very first impression and my first impression is totally disturbed from what it could have been. What an annoying stupid week and what a lot of disappointmens from rockstar. Of course I expected some errors or glitches, like they themself did, but this is just disturbing for my mood in total.

Just FYI I'm on XBOX and it has not worked once for me. Not just PS3.

Yea to the people saying people are playing on Xbox, no. I know like 10 people on my list have been trying and aren't getting past the race. My one friend did and after that it was just buggy.

 

On topic though, hopefully typing in this font makes some 12 year old kids mad too.

If you are playing or have played I wouldn't bet on anything you're doing right now being 'safe'. They should wipe the systems once they are fixed so everyone starts at the same point. lol now that would cause a whine fest.

I know that lag spikes and random booting from servers happens on launch day of a new game. Issues with getting into an occasional "hard to find" server...... maybe. But the fact that this problem is still a problem is clearly a failure to be appropriately ready for the $1billion+ they knew they stood to make.

 

But what is angering (to me the most) is the lack of communication to the public about where they currently stand. Most other game dev's provide an approximate time in which an issue will be fixed. Instead, they let everyone continue to endlessly try to get on, lose characters, reputation, money, etc. One can only assume that R* lack of communication means that they have no idea what exactly is wrong (other than the lack of servers which they arrogantly under-estimated) and how long it will take to fix it. I like the game and R*, and will like online play. But that doesn't mean I can't hate R* right now and their business decisions.

 

So, I got my money on Saturday.

So much hatered, be patient people - the servers going down was coming eventually with how many people are going online. It says the Rockstar cloud so I don't think it matters which console your on.

 

Rockstar even clearly stated online problems are inevitable, and will be delt with to the best of their abilities as they arise...

The truth is, Online is sh*t. They praised this up and has resulted in disappointment. Again.

 

I don't see how they can make such great games (IV, RDR etc) and then this.

Last time I managed to get on I was trapped in a car park waiting for some sort of race to start. It was telling me to go to a marker every time I tried to leave, but there is no marker there. Some dude in a car keeps telling me "I'm supposed to go that way". f*ck all is happening.

online problems are inevitable. I don't consider a problem is a complete crash across both platforms on launch.

 

Now if they said they expected a "catastrophic" failure in which 98% of people would be unable to play (and keep their saves) would be inevitable.... then no one could be angry.

 

I'm seriously not angry. Actually, kinda "ironically" amused at this point. But the customers have a reason to be upset.

i know its been said, but i think it needs to be said again; you cant compare this to just about any online game. GTAO is huge, and everyone has to share huge amounts of data with the servers, way more than is needed in BO2 or BF3. you also cant ignore the fact that R* has never produced and supported this kind of online community. if activision fckd up this bad, it would be a huge surprise because they have been cranking out big online games for ages and have gotten the process down pat. as for buying more servers, its just not that easy. you dont just click "buy" and sit back with your feet up. and as for people saying that R* doesn't care because they already have their money, i dont even know what to say other than thats ridiculous. we are not talking about EA.
