Poor character customisation?

Yep, the more I play around with this system, the more I hate it. They should have played Elder Scrolls or Saints Row to learn how to make a decent character creation system, but instead they give us this lazy "choose parents for outcome" bullsh*t. It's GTA, not The Sims. And I don't give a sh*t if this is how humans are made "in real life" (like The Benz said), it's a video game for christ's sake. I can't barely get a character I like, even when I continuously randomise it. They often just end up being ugly twats with big noses.

I finally got a character I was somewhat happy with, but I didn't even get on because the server crashed. I mostly do respect Rockstar alot, but this is just nonsense.

Character creation is a big deal to me in any game. Sometimes we just don't want to play as the stereotype, droll characters featured in story modes and such but from what I can tell (and what I assumed way back) R* just ignored all the success that other games have had with this in the past. They really don't like individuality do they?

For me personally if I hate the character I'm playing as then I just can't play the game. Whether the factor be looks or personality it matters and R* should have put in some effort

I managed to make a pretty swag dude but why they chose to do parents/grandparents for your character's appearance is beyond me. They could have just done sliders like every other game.

What if my character is adopted and nobody knew his parents...

This system is kinda sh*t yea... tbh the Saints Row one is way better

It's a different approach for sure. I can't say I was able to make the character I envisioned, but I haven't gotten to play online so I'm not sure how things look later on. Do your stats and looks change online? Can you go to the gym online like your character can in San Andreas? I'm hoping something will change with options in the game for appearance other than the barber shop. Not like Saints Row's plastic surgery, but something that can alter your character like that would work. It would be sad to get your character leveled up and have to start over to get better looking.

learn how to create. it's easy and I got the exact character I was looking for.

Don't even give me that. The characters ALL look the same. You get the Beetlejuice headed guy or John marston.

They REALLY need to rethink this feature and added more sliders on appearance.

BeetleJuice-414x250.jpg

You can have 4 shades of this guy.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Damn beetlejuice.

I'm no biologist/geneticist and if anyone here is and I'm wildly out of bounds, please--let me know... but I've always been under the impression that even if you are adopted, you were still conceived by two people (iirc male and female). I don't know, again, I could just be completely confused about this!

Put me down as not liking it either, I like the idea of it but the execution of the idea is awful. The models look mostly the same other than the hairstyles and race. I also dont understand the whole attribute thing either, are they limiting what I can do for the in game hours? Like if i put party with friend at 1 hour what happens if i party over an hour? or does that just shape the avatars body?

Not necessarily, depending on how you define "conceived." You could be a test tube baby that was grown in a lab from random sperm and eggs.

This would be really outrageous and would definitely make me avoid multiplayer. I really hope that stuff doesn't prevent me from playing the game the way I want to. If so, I'll only be playing single player.

Got an ok looking dude in the creator.

Started the game, and this dude has 99 bruises on his face.. Like wtf?

Looks like he flew to LS on the landing gear.

Made me lol +1

Agreed, worst character creation system in the history of video games. Wtf R*??

Created just so they could add the old R* characters in for the longtime fans. Very odd choice.

IMO to be honest, the whole feel of this character creator is reminiscent of GTA IV. It just feels very... preset, if you know what I mean?

I managed to get something I liked, but even then, there were aspects that I wasn't keen on (like the fact that my character looks like he's smirking all the time).

I found it difficult to customize the skin tone and keep the face structure that I liked at the same time... I know Rockstar wanted something unique, but was this really the right system to use? Like others before me have said, I would've preferred something from The Elder Scrolls or Saints Row games.

As the saying goes, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'!

Btw, is that also true about scars and bruises being added after creating your character? In the final preview of my character that it gave me (I haven't been able to access online since), I don't remember seeing any scars or bruises.

Here is the distribution of skills that I used:
I did this purely to try to make it balanced, not to change how my character looked. Due to legal and illegal work being balanced, should my character's face be affected?

4 - Sleep
0 - Spending time with family and friends
2 - Sports and working out
5.5 - Legal work
0 - Sitting on the couch
7 - Partying
5.5 - Illegal work

Thats why I said.. nobody knew the parents...

It was an example.. you can't always know how their parents looked like let alone their grandma etc...

But... YOU, the (omniscient) player, chooses the parents. Ah, f*ck it. I'm done.

All we can hope for now is that Elder Scrolls Online character customization isn't as bad as GTA Online...

It seems the more illegal work you do, the sh*ttier the face looks (more bruises and crap).

I also have to agree with everyone on this one. Not much for complaining myself, but this is really bad. The random faces don't look too bad, but once I find a decent random and then go and slightly customize it, it doesn't seem to do anything. Then once you start adding in the lifestyle choices, it just makes it look even worse!

I'm also extremely disappointed that we can't pick height, weight, and physique types. They could certainly have put on restrictions to keep people's characters reasonable. But with the current process, we have very little control.

Yeah, but does having an equal amount of legal work help to balance things out and remove the bruises and scars? :/

No, when I messed around with it, it was only the amount of illegal work that changed it. Because of that, I just moved the illegal work all the way down.

I tried to make my character without even using all of the points because adding them in just made him look even stupider but it wouldn't let me.

Right... so shouldn't I be seeing scars and bruises on my character? Or do they not appear until you're actually in-game? For obvious reasons I can't access GTAO right now, so I'm stuck with my character customization preview.

It's obvious.. If you're a creative person you will make a creative and good looking character. Just like LS Customs. If you're a creative person, you'll make a decent, beautiful modification and it won't look all ugly and out of place.

Oh yeah. This game lets you use TONS of creativity.

And yeah, good luck to those people. Because once you make it, it'll probably be deleted as soon as you try to use it.

There are tricks of the trade you can use once you understand how the Creator works :)

I know a high Illegal Criminal Activity-stat is interesting to have (for higher shooting and whatnot), but your appearance will also suffer, as well as having less sleep than normal.

Also consider the Age you put on the Character, younger age, less wrinkles etc

I would do Random until you get a general look you are satisfied with, and then manipulate the specific Grandparents

Why so sarcastic? The game is very creative. Rockstar have given you the opportunity to buy clothes, change your clothes, skills, car customization, business ventures and stocks. The whole game is creative if you look at it from my perspective, and possibly others. Why would it be deleted?
