Crews...Please Explain

I have never been in a crew or messed with the concept. How does it work if you have two crews? Do you have a character for each crew or will the same character be in both and you keep your overall rank (not hierarchal rank)? Say you are a level 25 are you a 25 in each crew? Does the money you earn from each crew combine into the same player?

You would just be a level 25 player that "works" for both crews. So no matter which crew you are currently playing with, you're a level 25. At least, I'm almost positive that's how it works.

So you're character is essentially independent and your rank and money always stays the same. It seems like crews are just GTA clans. Is there any benefit then of even being in a crew? Why not just do your own thing and rank up?

Good question, can't answer that. Given that you can switch crews, I would imagine you are just an individual. Otherwise, all your money and rank would be lost if a crew disbanded out from under you.

i think they may have goofed by using the word crew too many times. there are social crews that seem to be like guilds, people who you game with regular - then there also seems to be crews for the missions and heist's - with this I assume you can either recruit someone from your "clan crew", or recruit random people off the street who want to do the mission/heist with you. in mmo terms this would be a "pug" or pick up group. - I have also read that npc's are available for you to use instead of pug's, but don't know which source those claims came from.
