GTA 5 just plain sucks. The cops are only 1 element that's completely f*cked in this game. What a total disaster GTA 5 was. Basically paid $60 for a virtual landscape to stare at. The gameplay is bullsh*t.

Latecomer to the debate but I find them more difficult than previous games, the new system means you can tactically evade them but they are harder to lose other than this.

 

Online is the worst though, they are part of why i'm not taking to GTAO as of yet. 1 or 2 Stars and their blood lust is shocking, the amount of them that spawn makes the tactical evasion using the map useless. Even in a heli with 5 stars you're seeing a heli spawn every ten seconds even out at sea.

People who think the police magically know where they are are trying to hide too close to where they were last seen. It's not enough to get out where you can see the cones. You need to escape between the cones so the police are all on one side of your radar. If police are on both sides of you, well the problem should be obvious.

 

Euh, neuh ... There's a high possibility that the game will spawn police right on top of you, making that "further away" option more likely to fail than otherwise.

The cops in V suck.

At times they make sense, but 99% of the time i've noticed they're just... .bizarre.

I got a wanted level for stealing a car - someone reported it. (Who, i don't know as no one was around - being able to "stop" witnesses like you could in RDR sometimes works, but mostly not). Anyway, the cops were on the radar, but at least 4 blocks away. I drove away, and at no time did they see me. I went down an alley and hid in a back lot.
Guess what? The cops homed in on me, as though they could still see me. They know if i'm hiding on a roof without seeing me etc. And they follow.

Yet i had one chase me, i broke line of sight and hid in a bush (I was franklin in the parachute outfit - bright orange, in a green bush... because that's camoflagued), and they just stood next to me looking around!

 

The chases are annoying when the cops unrealistically ram you from behind - cops do not do that, as it is dangerous to the public. Most of the time they pursue without trying to stop, until a safe place (and authorisation) to do so comes up. Then they try to box or pit, or set up stingers (the latter the only consistantly good and realistic tactic in V). I think R* just tried to make it more fun/challenging, but being rammed from behind is just so stupid.

The scripted cop chases are annoying - i got smashed into by a cop, and he then came after me, letting his perp go - police are not permitted to do so in normal situations - once they're attending to a call, they can not just stop and deal with a misdemeanor. Bad programming but GTA has always had that.)

Cops wont go after anyone for punching me, yet they'll turn up because "civilian needs assistance" because i walked past or, heaven forbid, said hi.

 

Then there's the biggest problem for me: shooting. The shooting in V is just crap. I can shoot an enemy, and usually it takes 4/5 shots for them to go down. Unless im PERFECT to get a headshot (which sometimes doesn't kill them). But at three or four times the distance, they one shot kill me. The AI shooting is TOO accurate, and it makes gunplay in this game really not fun.

I use Auto aim to counter that. I planned to use manual, but with the perfect accuracy of the AI, f*ck that. This applies to all AI enemies, on and offline. R* need to fix that imo

So yes, cops ARE too difficult, but not by design, but by bad programming.

Losing them is easy enough in a few locations, however, but it's so unbalanced.


That and the fact stealth does not work. Sneaking round the cops, doesnt work. Ok it worked once, where a cop followed me to a roof (that he had NO way of knowing i was up there), so i snuck away, jumped down, looped round and backtracked to the street and lost him that way.

ONCE in GTA IV i had a wanted level, and i changed car - i drove right past a cop who was looking for me and he didnt notice me. In V they see me through walls or, if i'm in a different car, they know that car and, instead of going to the scene of the crime, they home in on that car, even if i'm two blocks away.

My mate once pulled over, at night, after losing line of sight, turned lights off and the cops drove right past him. I tried this, in a parking lot with several cars, and they opened fire like a bunch of COD loving gunnuts. They seem to psychicly know i'm there.

The cop system is brilliant on paper, but in practice? Terrible.

I know right! I once tried the skyfall cheat to fly halfway across to map to escape the cops, somehow 2 seconds after I landed.... they magically knew where I was and spawned 2 helicopters right in my face, then 10 cop cars rushing towards me! this is f*cking annoying

And yes, if you stand around an officer for a bit or take pictures they will start shooting at you. I'm not exaggerating.

If you have one star while on foot, police will not shoot at you if you "drop your weapon" (switch to unarmed) and "don't move" (don't move). If you don't comply with that, you quickly get bumped to two stars and they open fire. If you do comply with that, you get busted.

 

This is different from GTA IV in which police would not shoot or engage in vehicular pursuit at one star, and would not give you a second star unless you committed more violence (or a crime that automatically gives multiple stars). A new feature of GTAV is being able to get stars for failure to respond — if peds or police are afraid of you or angry at you, you have a limited time to get away from them before you get a star, and some of NPCs just don't like you. If police see you defying their orders at one star, you get a second star and they're done asking for compliance.

Yeah I dont like how easy it is to get stars on this one. I wish you could do more rampaging, or at least be able to kill one person lol. I remember on GTA III and Vice City being able to kill people, then kill a couple of waces of Paramedics as they came in to fix the people. I would prefer they were less responsive but oh well, whatever. I have noticed that unlike previous GTAs I never see cops in traffic, only if I do something. Ive seen a couple on the side of the road busting speeders and a bunch in chases/shootouts with NPC's, but non spawning in traffic that I can recall

I don't agree with having to dim down police difficulty, but it does feel way too easy to get stars.

Would share more of my two cents but there's a couple grand in this thread and the pennies tend to look a lot like each other.

I was actually sitting at a stoplight (checking a job) and got rear ended by a cop. Got 2 stars and he started shooting and crashing into me while screaming out "THERE he is!" Lol. I escaped but later I was fighting a construction worker and got 1 star. Again, the cops rolled up and started shooting. Being shot for sitting at a light and a mutual fight is a lil much.

Definitely not too difficult, just stupid and annoying. You can lose 5 stars just by driving into a subway tunnel which is pretty easy.

 

My biggest problem is that I want more warning when choppers spawn. Right now they spawn inside your pants, shooting up your ass.

 

I also hate that cops magically always know where I am. Why would two cop cars randomly stop, get out, and search around a building five streets away from where the murder happened? Also when you leave a chopper's field of view in an aircraft, it will continue to fly towards you no matter which way you turn (until another one spawns inside your nose). It's easier to get away from police in a car than in a fighter jet. WTF.

 

And why do they recognize me so easily. If I steal a red Feltzer in Vinewood, cops should drive around looking for red Feltzers, and when one spots me walking walking down the beach 30 seconds later, they should just move on, not say, "Hey he looks like someone who steals Feltzers, let's shoot him."

 

I got pretty frustrated last night, swimming in the land act reservoir with 5 stars. I would swim deep underwater and all three choppers would following me around even though the map showed that I was out of sight. A few times I managed to surface out of view, but all three choppers would swing their 50-mile omniscient view triangles around and then god f***ing damnit mother f***er!

The police difficulty isn't the problem, it's the feeling that they are "everywhere" that is the real problem. I hate how you can evade nearby police but then a new cop car randomly spawns in front of you, or a helicopter comes.

 

Other than that, they are fine in my opinion.

I stand by my original post in this thread but after putting in more game hours, I'd like to add:

 

I don't care for how the police cheat. They are not calling ahead, they shouldn't be psychically predicting where I'm going if they didn't see which way I chose. There are too many choppers and far too soon. I don't care for how easy it is to get a wanted level. The stealth system is unreliable for escapes and useless for access to the prison and military base.

 

I don't want dumber police, I want realism in a practical way. As is, the system ruins the fun. I wish I could just turn them off sometimes just so I can finish a task even.

I think the police are kinda difficult but ONLY when you're on the ground. If you're in the air, I can get away all the time with 4-5 stars on me.

 

On the ground, I've only ever escaped from three stars and done this loads of times. 4-5 is very hard on the ground and the police keep spawning like right in front of you, too many choppers all around, etc.

 

That's about it, there isn't much more to say. They suck, but you can evade them easily in the air, and with three stars on the ground easily. You just gotta find little hiding spots or climb mountains, go off road. Usually the police won't follow you, unless they are RIGHT on your ass they follow you, but if you accelerate beyond them, climb a mountain, they'll leave you alone lol

Only annoying thing about the cops is their crazy accuracy. I hate it that I'll be driving super fast on the freeway , yet I'm still getting hit by guys in helicopters or other pursuing vehicles

 

Other than that though I don't really have any complaints. It's pretty easy to get away from them; especially when driving in the city

Not just choppers, police cars too. I had one spawn a few dozen feet in front of me, at two stars only. Really good AI top notch.

True, but as of late, I will just go into the desert, or up a "small" mountain even, and I never get chased, about 45 seconds later my wanted stars are gone. I've only escaped 3 on the ground, and only escaped 4 and 5 in the air.

 

One time I was on a high mountain, not Chilliad or anything, but a chopper followed me, I got out of my car shot at it a few times, and it just flew away like nothing was wrong and no other choppers came and the cops on the streets just sat there in their cars doing absolutely nothing. The cops are't a big problem really for me, just an annoyance. When I get stars, even just one, I stop what I am doing and find a spot to hide, wait til they go away then go back to doing what I was doing, it takes all of what? 2-3 mins tops? Easy to evade these guys, you just gotta think and know where to hide in the city, desert, beach, etc...

Yeah, the problem with this logic is, simply speaking, this game doesn't suck. The story is awesome and the gameplay, while far from perfect, is great. If the last GTA was so "forgettable", why did you even bother buying/playing this one? Are you a masochist? Or just a moron?
