Yep getting rammed like that for 2 stars is like running a red light at 25mph (40kph) (with no damage done) & having cops ram your car into a barricade or other cop car and shoot you, that doesnt fit the crime! Heck people who actually shoot other people dead (in RL) are infrequently shot-to-death by cops, they might shoot their tires as they flee or inflict non-life-threatening injuries upon them but ....

Ironically this game has an element of *stealth* in it, *stealth movement* and the *suppressed* handgun at least but the "stealth" effect seems missing. In some cases, the only person around is the person you just wasted and sometimes no one is around but after firing the gun, cops are alerted. There isnt anything stealthy about that :rol:

What I don't understand is why the cops don't use stingers anymore at a roadblock to blow out your tyres. They used to do so in one or two of the previous games in the series (can't remember which one offhand, but one of the PS2 generation games) at a three or four star wanted level. I don't see why this couldn't have been included in V as opposed to the rubber-banding and abysmally scripted police chases.

the cops are like 1000 times worse on MP. almost ruins it when im trying to focus on killing the asshole who killed me for no reason, while i have an army of robocops shooting at me. why isnt there an option to turn them off for multiplayer, like on IV?

Because Rcockstar wants you to call Lester to remove your wanted level, which will pressure you into buying in-game money since you will need to use it often, 500$ everytime :karmaeater: (shows how money hungry they are)

Here's my take on the LSPD Online

They're not too hard if you're good at driving. I'd say if you're even a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10 you can get away, they screw up A LOT. Sure, they get speed boosts but they almost always wreck into each other/traffic. They also can't pit for sh*t.

HOWEVER. I think it's beyond stupid how as soon as you're into it with another player 4 squad cars immediately spawn on your location, regardless of where you are.

I was fighting a guy in the middle of the desert, nothing around for miles, I kill him once and suddenly I am "spotted" by the police, which are no where to be found, 4 squad cars spawn immediately - and begin to ruin our fight.

I understand that's what the 1 v 1 deathmatch is for, but when is the last time someone accepted a 1 on 1 DM for you? For me it never happens, maybe because of my level, but it seems everyone is just scared.

It's one thing for the police to be all over you if you're in the middle of Los Santos, fighting some dude with explosives. Totally plausible for the local police force to give a f*ck about two dudes blowing up the city.

Two dudes in the middle of the desert with nothing around for miles but sand? The cops shouldn't magically appear to protect the player and interrupt the fight. I have no problem driving around in circles, avoiding the cops while I'm murdering someone, but it's annoying when they're constantly lowering my health so the other guy has a chance when he normally wouldn't.

The other thing is the way the cops behave, ramming their cars into you on purpose, then you get a wanted star.

They'd never do it but I think it would be funny if they added settlement money, LMAO...like, the cops run into you or shoot you on accident and they have to pay you say, 5,000 dollars in a personal injury claim... The cops shouldn't be so AGGRESSIVE, starting chases whenever they feel like it

But they're DEFINITELY not too difficult, and anyone saying they are will adjust...or shouldn't be playing online until they're good enough for it. If you can't handle the cops online, I feel bad for you when you go up against a player.

they just need to have a "free mode" session where you can turn the cops off. as far as online goes, the cops themselves arent difficult, they're just annoying as f*ck when im trying to have a one on one with somebody, or even if im just trying to ride around and do my own thing. it just seems like getting a wanted level is too easy to obtain on multiplayer. i can steal a car ( no alarm going off) and ride a mile or two down the road, pass a cop and almost immediately gain one star, which instantly progresses to two stars. ive never had this happen to me in single player, ive read posts about the cops being worse on multiplayer and thought " bullsh*t, it cant be different than single player" now that ive been playing online alot, i know what everyone is complaining about.

I concur, obtaining a wanted star is far too easy. A lot of times I'll just get one for no reason, when I'm on foot without a weapon out or riding around in a personal vehicle.

Being able to turn the cops off would be a great addition to the game.

I have an idea:

"Window of Opportunity"

Basically, one of Martin's contacts buys off the LSPD to be quiet for a full hour in game. Everything goes, everything is permitted mayhem within that period of time with no law enforcement officers in sight during the window.

Oddity I agree 100% I miss the old times like gta4 they actually tried to arrest you at one star, now it's just f*ck it they shoot you. Also it's like just as soon as your about to lose them they respawn right ontop of you. It's like RS is watching and being like, "oh you're going to escape? Not anymore!" it's annoying to be completely fair. There is a lot abou te game that bugs me a lot.

I agree with this in a way.

I think the police are good as units and they're not over powered, but I think what classifies as crime and police response really needs to be looked at. Note: I assume that punching/knifing/clubbing a civilian or cop is not a kill but a knock out. Here is how I wold rework the system.

  • Police can not know when you commit a crime if no one is there
  • Police response is slower the further from a station you are [there needs to be more stations]
  • To alert other police (raise your stars) police have to be in vehicle
  • If there is something to report [* or **] police will go to there vehicles
  • If you kill a civilian stealthily (and any witnesses before they scream) police won't know
  • Civilians have to call police or go running to an officer to gain wanted level
  • Civilian calls can only set stars to a level for a crime, not incease it just by amount of calls

How the police work:

  • Running from police only increases wanted level by one
  • Regular police patrols on foot with nightsticks, only in populated ares
  • Regular police car/bike patrols in the city, occasional in other populated areas
  • Occasional police helicopter patrols in the city, very occasional in all other areas
  • In levels 1 and 2, if vehicles' crew are killed they will be replaced
  • in levels 3 and 4, if vehicles' crew are killed they will be replaced with one extra cop
  • In level 5, new police units come in flow

Other related things:

  • Badly wounded cops will take cover and no longer fire
  • Knocking out many civilians and wounding cops will bring in police medics in ambulances
  • If you surrender (see below) police will move towards you and handcuff you
  • If you surrender at 4 or 5, police will move towards you and stun you
  • Getting handcuffed or stunned means busted
  • Getting busted only removes ammo from the gun you last used (you still have armour vest)
  • Getting busted brings you out at a police station [only is one, should be more]

Also, I think the way police respond to certain crimes needs to be looked at as well. Here is my rework of the star system.

One star:

  • At one star, there will be one police car (or two motor bike police)
  • Police will attack with night sticks, until:
  • Aiming a gun at a civilian makes cops raise stun guns
  • Knocking out a civilain at this level gets you stunned

Two stars:

  • Aiming a gun at police makes cops raise guns and sets stars to two **
  • Killing anyone sets stars to two *
  • Knocking out any police sets stars to two *
  • At two stars, two or three new backup cars arrive and close police will be diverted
  • Shooting at police will make them shoot back with hand guns
  • Stopping shooting for a while/changing to fists (don't aim or punch) is a surrender

Three stars:

  • Killing 3 police, or destroying a vehicle (motorbikes = .5) sets stars to three *
  • Killing 20 civilians sets stars to three *
  • Causing any explosion sets stars to three *
  • Firing out any guns other than handguns or SMGs sets stars to three **
  • At three stars, three new backup cars will arrive all and nearby police will be diverted
  • At three stars, nearby civilians will be moved
  • At three stars, local cops will start to be replaced by the official police
  • If you try to escape one helicopter will be called to search
  • Shooting at police with weapons other than handguns or SMGs makes them pull out shotguns
  • Killing police with weapons other than handguns or SMGs makes them fire shotguns
  • Police will shoot out tires on your vehicle

Four stars:

  • Killing 20 police, or destroying 3 vehicles (motorbikes = .5) sets stars to four *
  • Killing 50 civilians sets stars to four *
  • Destroying a helicopter sets stars to four **
  • At four stars, five new backup cars arrive and all police in area will be diverted
  • At four stars, stars all civilians in area will be moved
  • At four stars, 2 helicopters will arrive
  • Pulling out/aiming grande launchers, RPGs or miniguns makes police call in SWAT **
  • Pulling out/aiming grande launchers, RPGs or miniguns makes police back away/take cover
  • Police may start to use SMGs now
  • Police will shoot out tires of all cars around

Five stars:

  • Killing 50 police, or destroying 8 vehicles (motorbikes = .5) sets stars to five *
  • Killing 100 civilians sets stars to five *
  • Using grande launchers, RPGs or miniguns sets stars to five *
  • Killing an entire SWAT crew sets stars to five **
  • At five stars, police cars will arrive every minute
  • At five stars, all police in the city will come
  • At five stars, two SWAT vans will arrive
  • At five stars, official police will start to be replaced by army
  • Police will destroy any nearby vehicles
  • Police will just keep coming every minute
  • SWAT will come every 5 minutes
  • Army will start to use MGs
  • Police will throw grenades
  • Police back off/take cover from grande launchers, RPGs or miniguns but the army won't
  • Police will no longer accept surrender

Last stand (not a new star)

  • Killing 50 army, or destroying 10 army vehicles triggers last stand **
  • Destroying 4 SWAT crews triggers last stand **
  • At the last stand, 5 army helicopters arrive
  • At the last stand, a tank arrives
  • At the last stand, the police all back off
  • Army and SWAT still remain
  • SWAT get automatic shotguns
  • Killing the helicopters and the tank ends the last stand

If the last stands ends with you still alive, the army will take cover and leave, SWAT will get in vans and leave. Police will all be gone already, and paramedics will come to take the wounded and remove bodies by the dozen. After this, you will not gain a wanted level, or even see police (local police of areas you didn't attack excluded) for an in game week!

[ * means that this only takes affect if there are witnesses who call the police or other police in vehicles to report it]

[ ** means that this only takes affect if there are other police in vehicles to report it]

That is if you want to stay and fight, but what if you want to escape? I have done some reworking on that too.

Basics:

  • Getting seen in a roofed car will get that car tagged
  • Getting seen on foot or a bike, quad or open car will tag you
  • Police must see something tagged to re-alert the rest
  • If you are tagged and get in a vehicle, police only see the vehicle
  • If you get in a car with a controlled roof, you can put up the roof so the police no longer see you but
  • If the police have seen the car it will be tagged

One star:

  • If you escape the one car, they will search for you where you were last seen for a short while
  • Other police will not be looking for you, but can still find you

Two stars:

  • If you escape the cars, they will search in the surrounding are for a while
  • Other police in the area will look in alleys and such for you

Three stars:

  • If you escape the cars, they will methodically search the area
  • They will search the whole area, so you will have to leave without being seen
  • Other nearby will fully join the hunt

Four stars:

  • If you escape the cars and helicopters, they will sweep the area twice
  • They will allocate bikes and foot officers to patrol the edge of the area
  • Medics and civilians can spot you now if you get very close

Five stars:

  • If you escape everyone, the entire section of the city or whole town will be swept thoroughly
  • Cars and bikes will patrol the perimeter
  • Medics can spot you at normal distance
  • Police who see you will not alert the rest, they will try to stun you once, then alert

Maybe this could be a patch or a future mod? I think I will post this as a full thread, I didn't realize how much it would be!! If I do make a thread I will edit this to link it.

I find the police are fine to handle, unless you get out of the car, then you are doomed. They mostly always shoot you down if you try to get in another car right away near them, but if you make a run for it, and have corners to go down, you can escape them. Just don't fire back or they do seem to get you a majority of the time.

I find that it is actually harder to get away from the police on GTA IV than it is on GTA V.

I enjoy them this way, more challenging, and I'm getting the hang of how hiding works. And of course driving away from the cone. Most of the folks I see on the tv in the apartment do not have sense enough to stop somewhere.

I would be fine with the police if I didn't have to lose $5000 every f*cking time I die.

Easy solution to this. Never carry loads of cash on you unless you need it. $100 or less on me gets me at most a $5.00 medical bill. The less you have, the less it takes from you. I sink all my money into stocks before attempting anything potentially foolish.

Is it just me or do the police never actually arrest you? This is the first GTA game where I've gotten to 75% and i haven't even been busted once, the police just shoot at me til I'm dead, they don't seem to bother arresting me.

I've been busted twice. Never above a one star wanted level and I didn't run away or have a weapon ready. I think I'd rather be shot though. I hated losing all my ammo.

Regarding the ramming: I've noticed it happens a LOT less if you use swerving tactics. Driving in a straight line is like painting a bullseye on your ass. I understand the frustration some have felt that they shouldn't be able to do this when you're in a suped up car going top speed. It's BS and a cheap programming tactic similar to racing games that never let you pull too far ahead of your opponents. But it can be beaten.

Regarding the time it takes to lose all stars: I've lost a 3 star wanted level within 30 seconds of the cops losing line of sight on me and had a one star carry on for over a minute. I'm sure there's a factor involved that I'm missing.

The police are overly aggressive, use cheap spamming tactics, have incredibly good aim especially on the higher wanted levels and are a perpetual pain in my ass ... but when I do manage to lose them its just that much more satisfying because I beat the gimmick. I wouldn't mind seeing choppers spawn a little less often but that's all I'd want them to change.

It depends. Sometimes it is great to have a real chase with difficult cops and other times it is good to be able to get away fast. I like the new vision cones as it makes it more real. In the other versions the cops always found you even though they never should have. I looked down on the cops and they couldn't see me and called off the search.

I just wish there was 6 stars like before.

No.f*cking.sh*t. The ramming is probably the worst sh*t I have seen in V. ESPECIALLY when im in a cop car and they catch up to me twice as fast. About 3 weeks ago, I had 3 or 4 stars, and was in a Blaine County police cruiser. I was being chased by an Identical model. I entered the slow motion cheat 3 times (maximum slowness) and went into Cinematic View. Oh..my..god. You could see the police cruiser that was chasing me getting ''propelled'' a little bit closer every 2-3 seconds. Like God was gently poking it along the road so it could catch up to me. Same thing for the Swat Granger.

No. I can survive in a stand-off with them at five stars for about five minutes, that's about par for the course. It's not like the army in the past games was easy to take on (outside of having a tank, of course).

It can take an awful long time to lose three or four stars but it's more than possible, although I think I"ve only lost five by going into the subway.

I think it's the best cop AI I've seen in these yet.

RE: the time it takes for the stars to go away, it's dependent on whether you have really "lost" the cops or not. I've noticed the cops will often form what actually looks like a perimeter around my location if using the "hide" tactic and it takes a very, very long time for even one or two stars to go away. You have to drive around and go into different alleys and stuff if you really want it to go away, because they actually know you are in that area somewhere, similar to real life, and will keep searching it. It's pretty impressive AI, or at least creative programming, I suppose.

Best example I can come up with of this was I was in the southeast part of the Los Santos and had I think a two star wanted level, I could see the vision cones so I wasn't in full on pursuit mode.. I parked my car outside a building and went inside into a stairwell (you can't go into the apartments, but you can go into this kind of open stairwell that has a roof on it and a second floor landing where they had no possible way of seeing me from the street), thinking I could just stand in there until my wanted level went away. I could see the blinking cop dots converge on my car, park outside the building, and a minute later they came into the stairwell looking for me, upon which time the "full-on pursuit" flashing came back on on my radar.

Honestly I love it.

they just need to have a "free mode" session where you can turn the cops off. as far as online goes, the cops themselves arent difficult, they're just annoying as f*ck when im trying to have a one on one with somebody, or even if im just trying to ride around and do my own thing. it just seems like getting a wanted level is too easy to obtain on multiplayer. i can steal a car ( no alarm going off) and ride a mile or two down the road, pass a cop and almost immediately gain one star, which instantly progresses to two stars. ive never had this happen to me in single player, ive read posts about the cops being worse on multiplayer and thought " bullsh*t, it cant be different than single player" now that ive been playing online alot, i know what everyone is complaining about.

Uh, it's explained in the Online tutorial when you first start that you have to respray cars you steal in GTA Online or you will get a one-star wanted level just driving around with them. This is to prevent people from stealing the higher-end cars and using them permanently, as you can't get them resprayed or install the anti-theft/insurance options. It's to make you buy them. They did this on purpose, as it is explained in the game when you start.

People who think the police magically know where they are are trying to hide too close to where they were last seen. It's not enough to get out where you can see the cones. You need to escape between the cones so the police are all on one side of your radar. If police are on both sides of you, well the problem should be obvious.

On the mission where Michael rescues his wife from the cops, i got a good distance away from the cops and drove to Michaels house. I sat at the front door and suddenly two cop cars come up the driveway and magically see me. That was when i realised the AI was bullsh;t.

actually i dont find them very hard to get away from unless i am in the desert or mountains and have more than 3 stars . i always either go into the ocean or into the subway tunnels or under some bridges to escape them

they are easy enough to get away from if you are a good driver but i agree they are way too aggressive i pushed one over and they tried to gun me down, I think they should try to arrest you in online play

If your on xbox then there is a cheat which reduces the aggressive nature of the police and doesn't affect your achievements

Press HOME (Middle button), Y, UP on d pad, A.

Hope this helps

they really should try to make an arrest in online play like for stealing a car or hitting their car or some thing it would make the game more realistic
