Grove Street might actually make sense ... in a DLC

Consider the following image.

Cul-de-sacLongshot_zps8fff750a.jpg

In my opinion, there surely seems to be a gaping chasm of lost story potential here.

Grove Steet re-incarnated a la GTA HD Universe. I am immensely underwhelmed by R* presentation of this once iconic cul-de-sac.

Grove Street no longer represents home, and those who represent the grove are no longer our friends. Simply put, Grove Street is Balla territory and our Black Protag is NOT welcome.

BallasAtgrove_zps5088b9a1.jpg

A common gripe coming from those who find themselves conflicted with GTA’s 3D and HD universe are typically people just wanting to see CJ along side Franklin in a cut-scene or Claude Speed camoed next to Niko in a bank Heist.

I never had a spat with R* over the duality of its GTA universes… until now. My first "free play" roam in GTA 5 landed me in an unfamiliar Grove Street occupied by an all too familiar enemy.

Ballasinthecorner_zps1cadcd39.jpg

I figured there would be some narrative in GTA 5 on this subject for sure. I mean eventually right? Was I foolish to believe that R* might at least try to make some sense of Grove Streets current condition, or explain how it came to be Balla Territory? The answer to that question is yes. A better question yet: Were Grove Street always controlled by Ballas in the GTA HD universe (even in 1992)?

All of these unanswered questions began to mount up regarding Ballas Vs CGF Vs Vagos.

Be aware however, because this void of information is suspiciously alarming.

In other words...

I wont be surprised if some of the first single player DLC content addresses this niche of the game. For example, some heavy gang related missions that lead to ongoing gang wars as side missions for franklin or a new protag, and maybe we get the ability to recruit other gang NPC members like CJ could do in GTA SA.

In my opinion this kind of DLC would come to us as a refreshing bridge to the current gap between the“bank robbing” life style we see now, and an alternative gang banging life style in the future.

The environmental elements are there. Now we just need the game mechanics to make it possible.

So,does anyone have any thoughts about future possibilities for a GTA 5 DLC package that specifically provides us with more gang warfare mechanics in single player i.e. being able to have 3 fellow gang member followers like in GTA:SA, being able to have random pop up side missions that pertain to gang war fare etc.

Second question: if the idea of a DLC like this interests you, what would you like to see in it?

Thanks

Yeah I was thinking the same. Some missions made me think we would be working to remove the Ballas completely, but it never happened. Franklin was supposed to be the gangsta of the protag's, but he's just another Michael. They left out so many good features from GTA SA. The recruiting of gang members, the respect you get from gang members, the balaclava's, the territory take overs. I think Franklin would have been a lot more fun being a ruthless gangsta instead of a smart gangsta.

From what I hear there wont be any DLC for SP. The only thing we can hope for is theres some sort of mention of it in GTA:O when they add content to that.

Dont expect TLAD and TBOGT type DLCs for SP. I do hope that whatever is added to GTA:O in means of content can be accessed in SP though.

They should make a DLC about Lamar taking out the Ballas.

There's still one more spot on the D-pad for another pro tag ;)

Thing that confuses me about it is, aren't Franklin and Lamar in GSF? that's grove street families.

Also, during one of the missions they talk about some dudes who used to be big in grove street, and they wonder whatever happened to them.

Basically what I'm saying is, although I acknowledge the difference between the SD/HD universes, some of the things are the same.

I don't think the ballas are in grove street because of the SD/HD difference, it's just been what 20 years since what happened in CJs time, and the ballas have taken over.

As to that, if we send the ballas packing in some DLC, where are they gonna live afterwards? They already don't have much representation compared to GSF. I see green in quite a large area, purple only takes up a single road.

They are in Chamberlain Gangster Families set so CGF as opposed to GSF, as opposed to the Forum Drive Set, etc. So just more questions keep popping up

and yes

Gangs in general felt sort of shoved to the side. Towards the end of the first act, it felt like Franklin vs. the Ballas was going to be a major part of his personal story arc, but then they were never used. I kept on wondering "when is Franklin going to interact with the Families or the Ballas at all?" but he never did after that heist and one mission at the end.

Yeah, that's for your online character.

Also Franklin was never suppose to be a full on "gangsta", since he wanted to become something better than some common gang banger. He wanted to leave that sh*tty life, and by the end of the game,

he does!

This game was suppose to be about the heists, not some gangbanger's wet dream.

The OGs(Most likely Sweet and CJ) moved out of Grove and DON'T ASK ME FOR PROOF! Search it yourself. Lamar said it. I'm not Mr. Baloney.

It's an alternate universe according to rockstar. Grove st doesn't even have to exist, and if they wanted they could have changed it to where Ballas always had Grove st. It makes no difference and it isn't home. It was in SA, which is another game. But it isn't here. This is GTA V and it is about bank heists, not street gang life. It has some of that in it, along with other things. I enjoy it and just see that Grove street is even mentioned is just a nice little nod by R* to SA fans.

I think it would make a lot of sense and it would be a lot of fun, especially if we can take over grove street. (it would also be cool if that meth head left the house that used to be CJ's house and we could possibly buy it in the future DLC)

I really think it's a good idea, please R*.

Let me guess. You heard on a recent R* GTA 5 'game play' trailer that the game is going to be all about heists, and now you can't bear to imagine anything outside that very limited scope.

At one point or another GTA has been about being everything. Dont try to box it up.

Reinvigorating old game mechanics from GTA SA would only make the game better. Period.

Great idea, I did miss the "gang" style shootouts and having pissed of gangsters on your tail when you crossed into their area. I can understand why they stayed away from that in GTA 5 but I still miss it and would be great to see it as DLC

This is just one of the many things I am disappointed about with this game. I love Trevor! He has a great backstory and his character fits. Same with Micheal. I enjoy learning more about them, and watching it unfold. Franklin.. well he is just kind of there.

I am really hoping for some DLC that involves gang related stuff. I want the area to feel unsafe to travel in, I want to see random shootings break out, I want to do missions where the 3 gangs go to war. IMO it's a big part of the game that is missing.

Its not GSF anymore its CGF....Chamberlain is where the Families took up residence.

The way I figure it. CJ in the HD Universe never made that huge of an impact...at least not in the way we saw in the 3D Universe. Remember CJ and Sweet fault Drugs making their way into the community. And after the last mission in SA we're lead to believe they had won. But who ever wins in the fight against drugs? 20 years fast forward and CJ and Sweet either died, moved away or possibly fell to the lure of drugs (much like Johnny).

At some point the GSF lost its grip on power again...The Ballas and GSF get involved some mid 90s Gang War that sees Gang territory flipflopping til the Ballas hold Grove Street...Grove Street no longer being GSF home territory, the Gang becomes CGF.

The Cops are much more violent in this game. So it can be easily explained that during the Gang War the LSPD became very aggressive to try and stop the bloodshed in South Central Los Santos..And eventually sidelined the large influence all of the gangs had..The Aztecas were never that strong even in the 3D Universe. So to avoid being crushed by the Gang War and the LSPD they take their operations out to Blaine County where they organize, grow and distribute the local Pot industry. Vagos, CGF and Ballas hold fast in their neighborhoods and go back to slinging dope to the addicts.

Theres three distinct Families under the Family Umbrella. And they tend to war with each other. So while the Families might be the most wide spread. They are the most vulnerable because of their internal issues.

Ballas and Vagos seem to be more stable. And it would explain why

Stretch ends up flipping over to the Ballas when he gets out of jail.

Why can't it just be a fun little nod to SA? And what are people thinking asking for CJ in a game where he doesn't even exist. Let it go people, if you want to play CJ so bad go back and play San Andreas.

because people like to over think sh*t too much. instead of it being just a tiny reference, it has to be made into this elaborate "future dlc pack that propels people back into the good ole san andreas days!" haha it seems like everyone was expecting San Andreas part 2 when the location of gta5 was announced. im personally glad it wasnt.

I wish they'd never decided on this HD/3D universe thing. It makes sense in some ways but honestly it makes me feel a little like my efforts in past games were all for nothing, in story terms.

I mean, if it was all one, continuous, canon universe then I'd feel as if I was continuing to be part of a story I've been watching for over 10 years, growing over time and introducing new characters and their own contribution. With the different universes, it's as if past protagonists never existed. Tommy never singlehandedly wiped out the competition and dominated the cocaine trade in 1980's Vice City. The Los Santos riots never happened and CJ never rose up, far above the level of a mere gangbanger, to take down the worst corrupt cop in the city.

I guess what I mean is that the whole thing would feel just so much bigger in scale if I was in the same universe as CJ and Tommy and all the others, assuming they're still alive. You wouldn't have to see them, just knowing that they were out there somewhere would be enough. As it is, although I'd never normally aim this kind of criticism at the GTA series, when I really think about the divide between the two universes it makes me feel that each game is kind of...insular. Each universe exists to tell the stories of a small handful of characters, and then it dies, forever, to be replaced by the next one, and the characters of the past are never heard of again.

I don't know if I've really managed to convey exactly how I feel about it, but that's a start.

I get why they do it, I suppose. It's just a bit, well, sad.

I don't think anyone was expecting San Andreas 2.

But if you look closely at the areas surrounding Grove street, it quickly becomes obvious that R* was giving us much more than a "nod".

Why I can't just pick up some gangmembers of franklins gang? Because of what? Is there any reason why its not possible?

I mean, if you are a game devolper with the experience of Rockstar today and you are creating a game like GTA 5, why you should remove a feature which we have seen before in San Andreas?

Like I say: GTA 5 is the successor of SA, so why all the good features of San Andreas (a lot of fans are missing the gang fights, hydraulics and stuff like that in GTA 5) are removed? Because of a DLC? DLCs are mostly a good money maker for the Devs. I hate this bullsh*t. It doesn't feel like 150% of GTA like it did in GTA San Andreas, it just feels like 100%... and thats not a good successor for SA.. GTA 4 was new, other point. New engine, new platforms, new age... but GTA 5 SHOULD BE the true successor of San Andreas, not only because its in the same city... Also, GTA San Andreas is WITHOUT any DLCs and without any further Addons one of the best GTAs ever. Why all the new GTAs need addons to top that? Its just Money I believe and thats make me sad, because I realy thought Rockstar is cool and better then Activision with CoD or some stupid other arcade shooters.

Right now I'm telling me "okay, wait for GTA online and the future of GTA 5, maybe they will add new, good features and old known features of GTA soon, for free"

I'm still in hope... I also wrote an E-Mail to Rockstar Games with my suggestions. Maybe they will respond to it, maybe they will even think about it... but maybe they don't, maybe they don't even read it.

Time to wait I guess.

Does it really matter? At the end of the day, Franklin doesn't give two sh*ts about Grove Street, or actually being a gangbanger, he has higher aspirations than that. As for why Grove Street is now balla controlled. A lot of things can happen in 20~ years. We have seen two world wars in a span of roughly 22 years (1918-1940), every empire falls eventually. And yes, I did hear during the mission where you have a shootout in Grove Street, that one Balla said "This is our turf, now!"

Even if CJ was still around, and alive, he'd probably be tired of being into gangs by now, he'd be in his mid 40s, for christ's sake!

What Franklin thinks about grove street doesn't matter as much as how I feels about grove street.

For example

Franklins not the type to parachute into a military base for no reason to steal an F-22... But as the player I chose what Franklin thinks...

Understand?

And if I think Franklin wants to break the Ballas off proper with CGF backup then that's what he wants to do gdi

After I read this topic yesterday I felt the urge to go into Grove Street & kill every Balla, so I did. But they keep returning! It's actually quite fun trying to kill every Balla instead of killing them once & disappearing like in SA. And they sometimes get into a shoot-out with the police, so I just walk around picking up the loot.

Looks like we don't need a DLC to explain grove street's current condition. GTA:O does some of that for us! Thanks R*
