I Figured out how the Police Work!

Okay. I was strolling through Los Santos, and I decided to go on a punching spree. When you attack someone, if another civilian is brave he'll take out his phone, take a picture and then the police come. Unorthodox, yes, but I'm guessing that's how the police find you.

Yes and no. That is one way that they're called to come arrest you, but there are other ways too. If you assault someone and police are in the area, or people are running away from you and run into police then a wanted level will appear. Alternatively if you fire off shots and police are within earshot you'll get a wanted level. Sometimes that happens even if noone is in earshot due to a glitch I guess but thankfully that usually means you're far away enough that the wanted level will just disappear as long as no cops spawn and you're not in their cone of vision.

No, as cool as a witness system would've been, the cops are just psychic like they've always been. They have Samantha Morton tied up in a hot tub somewhere.

Cops arent hard, earlier today I was crusing on the sidewalk in a car hitting people a cop made a right turn at the lights coming at me. So stayed on the sidewalk and kept driving (making a left still staying on the sidewlak), and he drove right past.... That was a 2star

Another thing is you can continusely ram people on sidewalks , as long as you keep moving you wont run into any cops whatsoever and evenutally you'll lose your wanted level...

Also foliage can help in avoiding police, as well as alleys, vehicle switching, silencers and continusely moving...

Cops arent hard...

They're not hard, just inconsistent. And psychic.

From what I can tell you can pretty much get out of eyeline and take cover and the cops will give up.

It seems to do more once the stealth stat is higher. Trevor has almost full stealth, almost no wanted level when I sneaky kill someone. But Franklin has low stealth and is constantly in trouble despite using suppressors.

In terms of "How police work" in chases:

They nearly always conduct the same vehicle take-downs. They either bash you in your rear end or attempt a PITT maneuver. If you are going fast and the impact point is shallow you can keep control of the car with relative ease. I often find that higher speeds with a direct impact point makes it easier in terms of controlling the recoil angle and any slip that occurs due to it. At slower speeds a bash from the rear can really knock the car off balance.

On few occasions I haved noted them attempting, and sometimes succeeding, in boxing in the vehicle. That is one police car to my front and one to my rear which can just about stop your car dead; only an angled maneuver will get you out, if you are closer to stationary speeds then spinning the wheel on out or attempting to smash through the lead vehicle if the angle is right are the perfect strategies there.

Getaway tips after... shooting someone dead I take it!

I like how you can ditch on foot and loose them and eventually if you get cornered and they are searching for you, adds a slight stealth element. Could be just me, i've had some fun do it in extreme situations.

Anyone else pay attention to your player arrow on the GPS? If you're wanted and you switch cars, it turns gray. You cant be seen by police when you get into another car. Once your arrow is gray, You can drive past cops for a few seconds before they start noticing you.

I noticed that if I use a silencer in a secluded place and kill a few people, I won't get a star.
