GyroDemon
I get that the main part of the street is different which is fine but I recal a street behind it where your gf lived and then the canel. Why is it so different, there is no street behind grove street whatsoever, and the canel is in a different spot.
Fireboyd78
Before all of the "different universe" arguments begin, here is the simplest answer possible: This is not the same "San Andreas" from the 2004 game. Think of GTA V as an alternative universe, where the events of GTA: SA never happened, but "famous" people still manage to exist. It's complicated. Mikeol1987
Its not even worth the effort explaining this. But oh well. This los santos is a different imagining of the original. Not in specifically the same universe. Grove street was thrown in as a little treat for fans. Such as various other references to the old games. Chocolate88
Idk but I just played as frank, dressed in all green in a pimped out green cavalcade, drove in the middle of the street, got out and unloaded around 500 rounds from my LMG into all the ballers and their vehicles and took it back over for the families. It was epic. I killed everyone baller in there some right out by their front doors. Dead bodies littered the front lawns and street. GyroDemon
Makes sense, but what about the one thing you do for "Sonny's" Daughter. I thought that that was suppose to be Sonny Forelli from Vice city, And the one mission where Lester refference's what I thought was Niko.
LiGzz
The universe thing is the story Rockstar has given since shortly after the release of San Andreas. Here's the 'Universe' argument in a nutshell.. Rockstar didn't want to have a "GTA 6" and decided to call it IV instead, this convienently spawned the whole "universe' myth which consequently gave R* some leniancy with the new cities (which is why LC and SA look dramatically different than their Ps2\xbox Counterparts.).. I remember clearly Vice City being referred to as "GTA 4", and San Andreas as 5 though not as much.. The whole universe argument is rife with plot holes (Lazlow and random Love fist Niggas reappear in both "eras", Franklin and Jimmy converse about the events of San Andreas in V.) the whole thing is just a poorly executed plot twist that R* insists on keeping up. Hmmm nice bike
Makes sense, but what about the one thing you do for "Sonny's" Daughter. I thought that that was suppose to be Sonny Forelli from Vice city, And the one mission where Lester refference's what I thought was Niko. Sonny Bottino, not Forelli. Different guy. He does reference Niko ( Packie appears in a random robbery and can be used as a gunman in heists, too. The UL Paper guy, Karen, and Marnie Allen all make appearances as well, and Brucie is on the internet ), but GTA IV is meant to be in the same universe as V, the "HD era." It is complicated then because a member of Love Fist is beaten up by Trevor in a mission. He's the member we hadn't seen in Vice City, but a member of the band nonetheless Edited September 27, 2013 by Claude94 Copcaller

GuantanamoObama
While I fully understand that they are completely alternate continuities, in the HD universe, have the Ballas always controlled GS or did they somehow seize it? If so, how? I find it odd how this goes unexplained.

Jimmy and Franklin have a conversation during a 'Hang out' session where Jimmy mentions the events of San Andreas and Franklin acknowledges that it took place at some point.. Again, the whole universe thing is full of holes.

Copcaller
The way I look at the whole universes thing is like the different Earth's in marvel and DC they're their own little world with some similarities but also a lot of differences. They threw it in as an Easter egg for San Andreas fans but also modified it to closer resemble the real life Spruce Street which is why the size is smaller. billiejoearmstrong8

MihajloS
It's because it's HD universe. People from 3D universe are there but it's like they aren't... like Willie from LOVE FIST. Also it's like twenty years past from GTA SA to GTA V story... who knows... scorseses

This will also apply to GTA VI (in the event it's set in Vice City). Tommy's mansion won't appear in VI. MihajloS 1 MGMT - Siberian Breaks

VictorVance1239
I've always looked at the PS2 games as being movies in the HD Universe because of thow smaller they are in comparison to the upgrades that came later. So uh. yeah. It makes sense for Grove Street to look different. In the HD World Grove Street is actually the Ballas territory but I imagine the film makers didn't do their research on it, or they liked that neighborhood too much to have it be owned by the rival gang in their movie. Hollywood is known to change things up like that at times.
