Kill Screen Flash

I never even noticed. I really don't see what the big deal is

It's annoying and ruins the immersion and is stupid in general. I don't need a big X to pop up on my reticule or have my entire screen flash blue-ish white. I turned off the Kill Effect in RDR and the screen flashing and reticule hit marker. I don't know why Rockstar saw fit to force these gimmicks on me.

I've gotten used to it at this point but I in no way like or are okay with Rockstar forcing this. I also don't like how we don't have independent camera angles for on foot, in vehicle and when aiming. I get so tired of constantly switching my camera angle on the fly. These kind over sights are not excusable in my book and GTA V would have been my literal perfect game if it weren't for these tiny yet huge flaws.

Why not go to the rockstar support thing and make a thread about it? See what people say?

If it's something as simple as the flash, they could probably add an option for it in an update with little effort if enough people complain about it.

I don't really like the flash, but I'd get used to it after 100s of kills.

Rocks tar support is kind of useless in this issue, as they have no control over it and chances are people who are wont see it. I've felt Rockstar has not had official game forums for a reason.

This goes for any game related patch or suggestion, the best thing to do is wait for the social club forums to open but even then they are going to be concentrated on GTA:O rather than the SP game.

I take notice of it sometimes and yeah, I don't see the point. Having an X appear over my target is confirmation enough I got the kill, and even that's not really necessary. Seeing the person I just shot go limp and slump to the ground is generally a sign that.... well, he's quite dead. So there's no need for all these extra indicators imo.

The flashing thing bringing you out of the immersion?

FFS that's all you're complaining about? What really bothers me are all the solid concrete hedges you can't even drive through and a bunch of other things that shouldn't be competely unmovable, like the volleyball nets at the beach - try driving through one of those!!

It's useful when blind firing from cover, helped me out heaps.

The flash is only useful if you have never played a 3rd person shooter before, suck at games, or are a casual gamer(but even I'm a casual gamer and still bothered by the flash and X). The kill effect and X hit markers should be optional at least. Not everybody wants immersion reducing training wheels clogging their screen and tainting their GTA experience. Seeing the screen flash with a little X for every kill made with a gun, makes shootouts less immersing and gritty, takes away the cinematic feel, and just all over butchers the combat in GTAV. Sniping and shotgunning feels especially weak with the flash. Those who don't believe me, try Sniping an enemy or shotgunning an enemy close range in RDR or GTA4 without kill indicators, than come back to GTAV, and tell me the combat doesn't feel watered down with the kill markers.

I honestly never even noticed a flash.

Me neither? All I've ever noticed is the red X when they die...

Maybe you need glasses or have an old SD tv? I have an HDTV and I noticed the screen flash right away during the prolouge mission. it made cop killing look almost censored, as the flash blocked out the blood effects spewing out of each fatal hit(call me a sicko, but this is GTA), ruining immersion. The flash ruins the game for me and pretty much everyone I've talked to, it should be optional.

A few questions to the people that think the kill flash is good and nobody should have a right to play with it switched off. Are you guys that bad at 3rd person shooters as easy as GTAV, you need to play it with annoying screen flashing kill indicators? Is GTA 5 the only 3rd person shooter you have ever played?. I am beginning to notice a trend among people who 'like the screen flash' are people who never played/liked the GTA games in the 1st place.

I can't tune it out. I've tried getting used to because I love what the game has to offer, but I just stopped playing GTA5 at this point. To think I waited so long for this game, and they piss all over it with the stupid screen flash kill indicator. Are gamers today that pathetic, zombie like, and moronic, that they can't tell when they have made a kill in a dumb video game? Gamers today are that dumb, that they need the entire game screen to flash to let them know when they've made a kill?

I agree 100%. Not sure why adding the option to turn it off (along with cinematic/ambient music) is such a gigantic obstacle for Rockstar.

The flash of black-and-white is supposed to mirror the black-and-white death scene you get when you get wasted.

That's all. I think it's very easy to ignore, and usually don't notice it.

I guess they felt it was so minor that no one would care about it. The flash is almost more of an artistic flourish than it is a useful part of the game.

No.. It's not. It's a stupid ass gimmick that is there solely to hold the hand of the player and the fact that it can't be turned off is f*cking pathetic. As each Rockstar game releases they seem to keep taking away options from the player in terms of things like "Kill Effect" and "Kill indicator/marker".

This effect first reared it's ugly head in Max Payne 3, and why they decided it was a good idea for any of their games is astounding. It has no other use than letting brandied casual video game players know "they got him!". Although on the console version of MP3, you could turn off the screen flash kill effect AND the "kill marker" or big f*cking X. In V, you can't do either. In RDR they had a "kill effect" but it was MUCH more mild to the point that some people don't even notice it when it is on, it's very minimal and in some circumstances actually adds to the immersion because it's a cool effect but not over the top and most importantly not taking over the ENTIRE f*ckING SCREEN. RDR didn't even have an X indicator.

This is essentially the GTA version of "regenerating health" and other gimmicks used to baby players because they can't tell wether they killed a guy or not. I heard people complained about not being able to tell when they killed someone in IV but I'm not sure that's true since it appeared in MP3 first, although they probably figured "hey why not dumb down ALL our games!". But one could also argue that since the "Kill Effect" first appeared in RDR although not exactly the same, would make sense because that was there first game after IV, where all this bullsh*t has been appearing and being forced upon us since. They might as well have "HEADSHOT" in big red letters and "PRESS A TO RUN" if this is the direction they keep going.

Thank God for the PC versions of these games which I will be happily enjoying from there on out.

I didn't know in Max Payne there was an option to turn it off...how sad they didn't think to offer it for GTA V.

I just don't see how a slight flash is such a big deal to some.

Some of the hardest games of all time have little explosion animations or they even pop up the POINTS you get for a kill every time you dispatch an enemy. Some of them have loud sound effects to let you know.

The regenerating health was a strange choice, I agree on that, but making a game accessible to new players is a pretty big deal... However, the continue checkpoints were good enough. Regenerating health wasn't really necessary.

When people who don't mind the kill flash and the x marker say, "It's such a minor detail." I think, "EXACTLY! It's so unnecessary, just allow us to turn it OFF!".

Playing Red Dead Redemption right now, and you can turn the "kill effect" off in the options. The kill effect in GTA 5 is even brighter and more obtrusive than the one in RDR, yet there is no option to turn it off. I never thought a missing feature so small, like the lack of a kill effect or hit marker OFF/ON option, would end up ruining the entire game for me, but it did. Seeing the blood spray and bullet wounds on my target's body going limp is kill indicator enough. The flash and x marker need an off/on option. Not everybody is that much of a newb.

I am playing on an HD tv and find the flash impossible to ignore. It makes combat feel so cheap. Shot gunning people close range feels cheap as the flash censors the bloodspray on impact(which should be indicator enough), it makes mowing down multiple enemies at once a lot less satisfying, as the screen annoyingly flashes for every kill, and the flash destroys immersion in sniping. The X marker is enough and even that should be optional.

When people who don't mind the kill flash and the x marker say, "It's such a minor detail." I think, "EXACTLY! It's so unnecessary, just allow us to turn it OFF!".

I agree. People who like the kill flash/ x marker are entitled to like it but they have no reason to act like we who hate it are all just nit picking. Not everybody can enjoy playing with the flash and lame X hit markers, and we should be given a simple patch to turn it off in options.

The kill flash ruins immersion in the game for me and makes combat feel less gritty. Seeing blood and bullet wounds on my target going limp would be kill indicator enough. seeing a flash ruins immersion in combat. Especially close range shot gun kills feel cheap in gta 5 with the kill flash, as the flash makes kills look almost bloodless and censored on impact. The flash also destroys immersion in Sniping. It should be optional, not everyone should be forced to play with training wheels.

One way the indicator is useful is when shooting the auto-targeted rockets from the Buzzard or Lazer. Sometimes the missiles hit offscreen, and this is a good way of knowing that you destroyed something.

Officer Ronson

I don't really have a problem with such a minor thing. I hated the aiming reticle in GTA IV but do you see me complaining about that and asking for R*¨to change it? It confirms that I killed somebody. Per say I taze somebody then there ins't a kill flash because they aren't death, nor when I punch them. But when I shoot them or throw explosives around them then it appears. It really helps me identify if I killed them or not.

I also noticed that people come to the point where they want R* to patch or slightly modify every single detail that is in the game for their own personal taste. I don't really see a reason why should they, there is a lot of other people out there who have bigger issues than yours. Soapboxxing in a forum ins't going to get them to bat an eye on your thread specifically so they can go and fix it.

I mean if it annoys you that much you should watch a cutscene in MP3, the effect is kinda nice but it gets annoying every now and then.

If the Kill Flash is that useless then I recommend you to get into a shootout with cops, shoot a couple of noose guys and then tell me the results.

It takes me out of the game. Why bother focusing on creating a life like city, guns, cars, etc. just to have a massive reminder "THIS IS JUST AN ARCADE GAME" every time you kill someone?

You just knocked rockstar games out with pure logic. I love you man. I agree it should be optional it doesn't bother me personally because im used to it but if I was given the option i'd remove it for realism purposes in all honesty

It doesn't really bother me, and I find it useful to a certain degree. That said, I'd probably turn it off if there was an option to.

Wait a minute, are you telling me that there is a barely noticeable tiny flash to help you identify whether or not you have killed a person!? Pre-order cancelled, I mean come on Rockstar, oh, I mean cockstar! Yeah, am I cool now?
