Weird textures on black objects at night time in-game?

Never happened for me. Playing on PS3, on a monitor display, with the lightness quarter of the way up in the game settings, and the monitor brightness max.

I have not really noticed this much, though I wasn't looking for it either (too busy focusing on the gameplay, so I haven't really looked hard at the graphics too much yet). But now that you mention it, yeah, it appears to be a limitation of the engine, or rather, on console anyway. I noticed something similar when I ran GTA IV side by side on my Xbox and my computer. The console releases just can't look as nice, otherwise the framerates would be completely unplayable.

Turning the brightness down like that causes the effect to be masked a great deal. If you leave the brightness at it's default setting, it's much more apparent.

There's an extremely slight chance that your PS3 is magical and your copy of GTA V was a gift from Rockstar and they decided you can have 32 bit colors.

But then there's the chance that you just don't pay attention to these types of details and simply are unaware of the reality before your eyes.

See...I get this too...however i'm 99.9% sure it was not like this until update 1.04. i also didnt experience any pop-in AT ALL untill update 1.04 and i completed the game to 100% before then. Tried on two consoles ( Elite 360 120 GB with disk) and Slim Xbox Download version installed on HD and sandisk Extreme USB card. Both have looked very sh*tty since that particular update and it annoys the hell outa me.

new TV needed.

Face meet palm.

It's a GAME ISSUE. It will not be resolved till PC release, and hopefully next gen as well. No matter what TV/Monitor you use, it's there, because all copies of the game are the same.

Now doing things like turning the in-game brightness down will seriously mask the issue to the point someone would think it's gone. But it will always be there. There are varying levels of perception. For years I battled people on forums over the statement that V-Sync introduces input lag. People SCREAMED and shouted that there is no such thing, it's all in my head, and that they never ever ever experienced such a thing. Well, turns out they were all wrong, input lag from V-Sync is a very real thing. So where does this leave all those deniers? People who could swear they didn't experience this? Well, it means that frankly, there are people on this earth who are below you in some way or another. Just like there are people above you. All these people, were below me. They lacked the perception, awareness, reflexes and even intelligence to feel the input lag, speculate on what causes is, tweak settings and compare, and deduce that it was in fact V-Sync causing the input lag.

Well, apply that to this situation, and it is abundantly clear what the truth is. Some people notice things, others don't. But just because you don't notice something does not mean it is not there.

i find it funny how we have already CONCLUDED that it has to do with the 16 bit color code used ON THE GAME, (has nothing to do with tvs)

yet people still CLAIM BY GOD... "this doesnt happen to me... "

Hello Everyone

Even i was facing same issue . But now its working perfect. Try this.

1) Install the INSTALL Disc to a USB device

2) PLAY disc to the Internal HDD

Use Newer Version of HDMI cable

Set display resolution 1080p

Thank You

Um, no, it's the 16-bit colour mode. A console will run under any HDMI version, as version 1 supports the highest resolution a console can output (upscaled 1080p, so essentially 720p). Nothing you do will ever fix the 16-bit colour mode, installing it to an external drive will do nothing, using a different HDMI will do nothing, setting it to upscale to 1080p will do nothing, it's the game. Only the PC version will fix this.

I can't believe how many ignorant people play on consoles and can't tell the difference between 16-bit and 32-bit.

>ignorant

Out of the millions upon millions who have bought the game, only maybe 20 have complained about it. It's more of not giving a sh*t.

Now go hover over your computer screen while everyone else tends to their social lives.

Nope, and they most probably never will. Best bet is to get the PS3 version, it doesn't have this problem.

@above - It was a conscious decision on R*'s part to do this. Going 16bit color was the solution to w/e problem they had.

the PS3 version, it doesn't have this problem.

Yes it does:

I don't see what you're talking about? There is no oily textures on PS3 version. If there is, I can't see it, only on 360 I can.

It's not 'oily' textures, it's lack of color (which OP mistook as oily textures). If you honestly can't see the issue with that image, then you need a new monitor/TV (one found in a dumpster should suffice) or new eyes.

Oh sorry, my brightness was low, please forgive me. LMAO. I see it now with the brightness turned up, yep looks like the game is the same on both consoles with that oily looking texture.

Does 16 bit color really give R* that much of a performance boost?

On modern day videocards no. On pieces of junk from almost a decade or more ago, yes it does make a big difference.

Guys, ive played the game on the same pc monitor, and i can CONFIRM that the ps3 version has 32bit color depth, therefore no 'oily textures' at night. Why would i be lying?, its one of the few games thats superior on the ps3.

It's the dithering type effect. Looks a bit nasty but I played roughly the first 50% of story in 640x480 on a 22inch monitor before I figured out how to make it 1080p so I've been to the bottom and I don't mind it.
