Weird textures on black objects at night time in-game?

I get the strangest textures on dark/black objects in GTA V. The weirdest part? These textures only show up during the night (in-game, not real life).

The mountains, suits, clothes, hair, car metal, sky... everything that is dark has this weird texture to it. The best way to describe the texture is "oily". Does this happen for you guys, too? And more importantly, is there anything I can do to fix it?

If you had to guess, what TV setting should I change to notice a difference?

Example:

I've searched the internet for solutions, but the only other person on the internet who seems to have this exact problem asked the question on Yahoo Answers about a week ago, here's the link:

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing this. Do you guys think it has something to do with the brightness?

Looks like your TV contrast is either too high or low. Or the gamma is too high in the game settings. Try adjusting those.

Here's what it is folks: R* is using 16 bit color mode for GTA V to help maintain graphics processing performance levels.

32 Bit colors:

Turn the brightness down, this happened to my friend and he fixed when he turned the brightness down, try turning it down in game and on the TV.

This only helps to minimize the visibility of it, the issue remains and keen eyes will still notice it even with the brightness on the very lowest setting.

The only true solution to this problem is to wait for the eventual PC release which will undoubtedly run in 32 bit color mode.

thats how the game is for EVERYONE. turning the brightness up or down only minimizes the issue, but you can still see it.

the reason is that it takes less "power" to generate the graphics.

I have this also. It's pretty jarring since the rest of the game looks great. I'm going to mess around with the brightness settings to try and counter it although since alot of people have this issue it may be a bug in the game.

I've noticed this too but it doesn't bother me much, kinda gets me a nostalgic feeling. Good to see what the cause is though.

So to clarify..Is this something to do with my TV or is GTA like this for everyone? Seems to be mixed answers..

It's not your TV, it's nothing you can really fix. Perhaps you could mess around with your TV set up to make it less noticeable.. but it's 16 bit colours. It's just how the game was made. Looks the worst for me around the Alamo Sea at night time.

So we know the reason but no solution so far. Try drecreasing your Brightness (on your TV) MIGHT help make it less noticeable.

Your appointment with FEMA should be finalised within the week. I've already discussed the matter with the Senator.

16 bit colour issue guys, you can't do anything to fix it, but you can minimise the effect by adjusting your TV's brightness/contrast/gamma levels.

The only way that it can be fixed, is for Rockstar to release a patch that upgrades the visuals to 32 bit colour. And that is never going to happen.

You all on Xbox? Or is anybody getting it on PS3?

It affects both I believe. The majority of people in this thread are reporting they too experience it, and since GTAForums is a mostly PS3 userbase site, I would assume at least 1 person who confirmed they too experience this, is on the Playstation.

It's the game. Many of Rockstar's games have ran in 16 bit color mode going back to the GTA 3 days.
