Bageebi
I love the 3 protags. It was like mixing GTA just a little bit with Sims. I hope they keep it.
JohnGazman
In SA you had only CJ and you experienced everything from his perspective which made you connect with him. I didn't connect with CJ, though mainly because the entirety of SA is CJ being a boring, two-dimensional character who spends his entire time answering phone calls from people telling him to go somewhere and shoot someone. As characters go, he was very forgettable. Aside from a couple of missions, such as the last one, I barely recall anything notable about him. But that's just me. I'm down for multiple protags in the future. Edited September 27, 2013 by JohnGazman

JustRob
I thought it was really really cool in GTAV, but if they're gonna do that every time now, it's going to lose its unique-ness. Maybe for the next one we can just go back to one guy, and they can try to innovate on other areas. Like, making every building in the game enterable (except for residential houses). TheDeaconBosco
Funny you should go and mention CJ, because San Andreas was meant to have 3 protagonists too as was confirmed in an interview. crowstwo
Even if it is nice to have 3 chars i would like for them to stick to only one in the future. Yes you bond better with one and you don't have to select a different char if you want to do a certain activity.
Negan
I would like to see a guy, who was never a criminal, but he had to become for some reason in the story. thats sleeping dogs story lol And also not a lawman. That was in like 10 games I played.
TeCNeEk
I enjoyed controlling three different characters. I just wish their outfits didn't change unless it was mission-based. I loved all three characters, and I can't imagine the game without any of the three.
CarpetDweller
I enjoyed the 3 characters and think it works really well for telling a story. I feel it allows the characters to be more varied as they don't have to fill a generic "everyman" role that the majority of players will be happy to play as. It also adds to the drama and pacing as various cuts can be made through the story by making you play as another character for a while as things happen for your character off-screen. It was rare in previous GTAs to do a time-jump to add emotion or depth to a scene or let you believe that things are going on which wouldn't be very entertaining to play. With more than one character you can be doing something interesting while feeling that things are still going on for the others. It means that we don't have to experience every single thing that would be a chore to play and can just be told it happened through the dialogue later. With TV dramas and films with multiple main characters I have no issue connecting with several characters and it has been the same here. I feel I know Michael & Trevor very well. Franklin a little less, but I've also heard people talk about things happening with him which I've not experienced, so maybe you naturally get to know the characters you're more interested in playing as you spend more time with them anyway. Maybe another playthrough would increase my understanding & connection with Franklin. I like the idea that all my playable characters are after one goal, but I'd be interested to see what could be done by playing with more obviously opposing characters (maybe a dirty cop). Though we kind of had that with The Getaway games without the player controlled switching. I still haven't finished the storyline (I believe I'm close), so my opinion may still change, but I think they should continue with multiple protagonists. I think 4 protags would be the maximum though.
Calavera999
For me, having 3 characters added something really important. GTA has always become stale rather quickly after the missions have been completed, with nothing really giving it a long lifespan. Some people like to just "free roam", but with only superficial things to do it really becomes stale quickly. With the switching mechanic, as soon as that feeling starts to rear it's ugly head you can switch out to someone else and it just freshens the game up. I have definitely taken a lot longer playing through this GTA than any other because free roaming has been a bit more appealing. Hopefully GTA:O will deliver that special ingredient that keeps an open world game interesting. I say "open world" and not "sandbox" carefully. Hitchens
Maybe they can bring back the character switching in missions by giving you the option to recruit Friends (NPCs) which then can help you in missions. Maybe NPCs for those without friends and the option to play with real friends for those with them. I don't like the switching character idea, never did. Old_BenKenobi
I thought the three character system was great and cut out a lot of the dead space in missions. I just wish they had more independent stories. I would have liked for Trevor to grow and develop Trevor Phillips Enterprises over the course of his story instead of basically abandoning it to do heist work. Gruggles
Multiple characters but no forced switches? That way you can play the same way as V, or you can play through a story as only one character. Would create more replay ability as you could play through story 3 times as different characters, seeing the story from different perspectives. Osho
most of the time you were forced to play this or that guy in missions. you dont get close to any of them which then makes the atmosphere less enjoyable Maybe they can bring back the character switching in missions by giving you the option to recruit Friends (NPCs) which then can help you in missions. The difference between 1 and 3 is the 'scripted act' which removes free-form mission ability to make a choice. I feel Rockstar has implemented a very simple approach in V switching characters and performing the act. By introducing, either real time control and unscripted over all 3, choice to pick between 3 or let alone choose depending upon the special ability further adding RPG pause-and-hit simulation could have added a lot of replay value to the missions. SilentSeas
While I enjoyed the luxury of being able to switch between three characters and thought that it had been implemented well, I can't help but feel that the story really suffered because of it. Apart from Michael, none of the character's felt particularly fleshed out as so to speak. .

Cheatti
Dont worry in GTA:O youll have One character, and 700 missions. So youll get your connection with your own character Don't know... I HOPE that there will be some sort of a voice for yourself to choose, a professional one. I dislike silent characters (Claude is an exception). WV_DallasFan
In GTA 12: Memphis, Tennessee, they could have a family as 4 playable characters (mom, dad, boy, girl) that you can switch through and they do bank robberies together, and you can switch through the 4 as you please during heists. It would be easier to manage the story, seeing as they're all in the same family and on the same missions, but it lets you switch between players so you can have the camera wooshes into the sky and then back down to another person that we all love.
