Wildfire_08
Honestly i like the new update to the helis, they made it more challenging, although it isnt difficult at all, its still more challenging than GTA 4 helis where every noob could call themselves a "pilot". I haven't had any issues with the heli as of yet, even when it was stormy and raining its easy to blast under 2:00 in the heli speed run, the only minor irritation is irregularities in altitude. Sometimes so far it feels as though even when fully dipping the nose, im still climbing, so you have to make constant corrections for that as you go through the little challenges etc, but apart from that, the whole lack of real stability in the heli is good i think, it means people have to adapt, and those that cant, shouldn't call themselves pilots. QuietJosh
On a related topic, I had assumed completing the school means you will not get a 3-star wanted rating if you venture out on the tarmac. It doesn't. Does buying the hanger guarantee a no-wanted rating?
Skeloton
yes but only for that character. Wildfire_08, nothing challenging about it. Annoying? sure, unrealistic? definitely, challenging? no. With the self righting using the buzzard miniguns is challenging enough, the swaying renders them useless (the puny damage they seem to do doesn't help). The only people using the miniguns would be the die-hards.

RowanSane
Anyone know where I can find a chopper outside of the Sandy Shores airstrip? And please don't say LS airport, I'm not in the mood to battle my way through a 3-star rating to get to a chopper, heh. Hospital roof, a block or so south of the strip club. There's a driveway through the middle and ladders at each end of the drive - if I recall its the southern ladder that gets you to the helipad. The only people using the miniguns would be the die-hards. Maybe you should re-read my post, the key word is "more". I said it isnt difficult at all, but its certainly more of a challenge than any helicopter in GTA 4... everyone was a pilot on GTA 4, because the required skill was minimal. I find it funny how there are slight differences which mean people have to adapt, and most of the GTA community are crying about it on the forums like babies. Adaptation is the mark of a real gamer, complaining about it is the mark of a noob. Also, this isnt some version of flight simulator, this is GTA, whoever said the handling was supposed to be 100% realistic? If i wanted realism i would go and take helicopter lessons in real life, but i dont, i want a certain level of skill to be needed to fly well, and i want to be able to cause chaos. Unfortunately, i do agree that the miniguns are, or so far, they seem incredibly weak or at the very least inconsistent. Im not sure whether they just changed other factors on targets tbh, because ive blown up cars instantly, and then others have taken a while. Still early days yet for GTA, so no real complaints from me. edit: I forgot to add, its good that the miniguns seem weaker, because look at it from a balancing point of view, GTA 4 was ruined by the fact that everyone could easily pilot the buzzard and dominate a lobby... it was FAR too easy and simple to kill people, so anything they can do to stop garbage pilots from being able to dominate lobbies is fine by me, at least now only the skilled guys will be doing that and they can still be taken down by various means. GTA was more fun in early 08 when there were only a few pilots who could do that with the annihilator, because everyone was doing drivebys and other silly stuff which made the game a lot of fun. Amigo Mane
Well I got all gold on the planes/parachuting & silver on both chopper tests, not being far off from gold. I find the chopper flying mechanics fun & challenging, just as they would be in real life. But I have got the hang of it & it really is rewarding once you get used to it. The only think I'm struggling with really, is landing the damn things quick enough.
Amigo Mane
& I think it's good that everyone bar the talented are struggling with the chopper flying & hope R* do not change it bc it means we won't get some douchebag ruining lobbies by killing everyone as soon as they spawn at the airport & that type of sh*t. The talented pilots will be putting their skills to good use like in missions & heists.

chainsoar
Protip: trying to correct using the shoulder buttons usually makes it worse. Keep the stick stable and tilted forwards and only correct, CAREFULLY and with the minimum possible adjustment to your course, when the turbulence causes you to stray too far. Minor turbulence, ignore it and keep going.
pinky
Fly it more like a real heli by planning ahead for the next checkpoint and be gentle on the stick. Helicopters are unlike planes in that you cant just chuck them all over the place, they need a little predetermination on where you are going to get a smooth flight out of them. Skeloton
Wildfire_08 the minguns need a little boost in damage, just a little. That or the peds im shooting have body armor. The swaying doesnt make it more challenging for me, i can fly just fine, even done the quarry bail bond with the cargobob. I kinda failed as i intended to take him alive and accidently dropped him to his death. I can even fly fine when the HVY dump or a semi trailer f*cks up the heli. Would it not be fair to calm it down in clear weather and pelt us with that wind in a thunderstorm? Thunderstorms are f*cking awesome in and of themselves....flying during one adds to the awesomeness. And yes i got all golds in flight school, the only legitimately challenging bit i felt was the parachuting.

I didn't know how to word it myself, but you did it. Also don't always be holding RT to ascend, that slows you down, let the chopper dip occasionally to gain speed & then slowly ascend back up & keep doing it. If you wanna go faster point your nose down too (probably already knew that) But yeah, pretty much make your moves early, like the man said. Em_Kayz
Hey, As being a pro pilot myself I do find it rather easy to fly. When I am in the Buzzard my aim is awesome. I do think the sway helps a lot. I used to think the old GTA: IV TBoGT sucked.. As anyone could get in a buzzard and fly using bullets thinking they're a pro. It was that easy! I find GTA: V is much more versatile. I think it will stop a lot of "noob pilots" online Regards, - Em Amigo Mane
Omar Comin
The Helicopters are a lot better than in GTA 4 there's no doubt. They aren't just static pieces of metal in the air anymore they move about and feel a lot more harder and funner to control. It took me literally seconds to pick the chopper up and learn it, so just stick at it. VVVVV A pro pilot? you get paid to fly? Hey, As being a pro pilot myself I do find it rather easy to fly. lickylickyballbags
Does anyone else find the helicopter to be extraordinary difficult to fly as I do? I've been trying for hours to pass the flight school / helicopter portion, and iI swear, the controls are so twitchy that even a slight movement to one side sends you all over the place. Even when I manage not to crash, I can't make the time limit for even a bronze medal. Any tips out there? Obviously there's some trick to this I'm not aware of... umm, no tricks.. i past it first time, you doing something like a spastic.. Retrorex
A while back I used to compete on a semi-professional level for the first battlefield 1942 in the Mod Desert Combat, Flying helicopters is like balancing a pencil on the palm of your hand with the point against your skin. This is mostly true in RL too as I have flown a Robinson's R22. The turbulence is a bit extreme in GTA V but if you use rb1 lb1 (gentle taps constantly) it keeps the chopper more stable. However I have no problem with the helicopters in GTA V so I would put it down to skill level. It takes a delicate touch for smooth flying, keep it at you will get used to it but I agree they need to tone down the choppy turbulence.
