Don't take this as a criticism but how is it obviously a jetpack? I'm interested in semiotics and would like to know what parts of this symbol translate into 'jetpack' for you.

 

To me, it's a stick figure with a round or cylindrical thing on it's back and possibly motion lines underneath. That doesn't necessarily mean jetpack to me, especially as the thrust of the GTA SA jetpack came from nozzles on the shoulders, not from the base of the fuel tank.

You try drawing a guy with a jetpack then. The simplest way you can think of. What is it going to look like?

 

if it was scuba gear here are some obvious indicators. A snorkel, bubbles coming from above the figure and a cylinder tank. easy

 

 

Look, that's the jetpack from SA. The thrust, and therefore the movement, is coming from much higher than shown on the mural. Also, the image on the mural has no flames or jet coming from it, no nozzle shapes near the top and it's much smaller.

 

I'm not trying to criticise your opinions as they are perfectly valid, I'm trying to highlight an alternative.

 

Regarding the suba gear, I agree other indicators like bubbles or waves would show they are underwater. But the diving gear on your back looks more like the image on the mural than the jetpack would if it was ported from SA. It's much more cylindrical and fits the shape better. The movement lines coming from it could just be the movement of you swimming. Plus, we know the scuba gear is in the game.

 

It's all a moot point anyway as it could also be interpreted to be a rucksack and represent you hiking up the mountain or somewhere else. It could by symbology for someone having a 'monkey on their back' if you use the theory that each symbol represents one of the main characters.

 

This is why I love semiotics!

 

jetpack is also named rocket pack. drawing a 2d image of a jetpack is pretty tough. drawing a man with a rocket on his back is easier.

 

since the jetpack is a film item and was used for a stunt scene (some of us will remeber the james bond film i guess ) that was the birth of a jetpack/rocketpack. military tried to rebuild it so did some fans.

The one on the bottom is quite undeniably a triceratops. the one above I'm not sure, but there are many duck beaked dino's

Well, they didn't the first time

 

I'm only playing devil's advocate. It could be that the symbols represent locations along the northern side of the mountain.

 

The UFO could be the sunken UFO, which you would come across naturally as part of finding nuclear waste.

 

The egg is the Cluckin' Bell factory.

 

The man is the Logger Beer woodsman statue at the motel where you get the hunting mission as Trevor.

 

The view of Chiliad from the northern side of the map matches the outline on the mural VERY well after all.

On the backside of the blueprint-map which comes with the special edition theres something written about blablabla bring 500 00 dollars blabla.. we all know that this is responsed to the submarine which you will get after paying 500 000 dollars.

does this mean you only can find the five X after getting the submarine? i really think the answer is underwater!!

As t­he U.S. Army began researching rocket pack technology in 1949 at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama, I don't think they were inspired by James Bond films, although possibly by radio shows and pulp fiction/comic books of the day. Rocket technology was only really being refined for flight purposes during the latter parts of WW2 although it had been used in crude explosives.

 

If this mural symbol was going to depict a more realistic and recognisable jetpack thensurely it would follow the design already laid out in GTA SA?

They added all this stuff that leads to everyone to believe theres a big mystery and solving it gives you access to jetpacks and ufo's. So all this was in vein and how would they go about adding that as dlc?Would you just get the jetpack for forking over 15$ or would it still be hidden and we would have to search all over again. This is just my theory on that but maybe this is all hype so people buy the dlc which would be hugely disappointing to me

p.s. this map is huge and filled to the rim with stuff to find, constantly new stuff is being posted and nothing besides the ufo's have been found that was somewhat shocking

Rockstar screwed us over with a lot of things. Everyone is bitching about it but when DLC or GTA 6 comes out, everyone is buying it. The most people on here have a very big mouth but they just are big talkers.

This was the simplest way a jetpack could be drawn, without going into details. The drawing is there simply to imply something. And that something is most lightly a jetpack.

However, it seems obvious to me that the Chiliad mural simply indicates to the player the conditions they need to meet before they can see the UFO on the mountain top, and one of those conditions involves using scuba gear to gather the items needed for 100%.

 

It's like the clues have been decoded, the secret has been found, but people love the thrill of the chase so much that they can't accept the fox has been caught and the hunt is over.

There are 4-5 glyphs, all of which relate to the Chiliad UFO depending upon your interpretation.

 

Why are the boxes connected? Because all of those conditions need to be met to make the UFO appear.

 

The symbols at the bottom? Other UFOs.

 

The small UFO - Sculpture Park where there is a UFO of that shape on the car.

The egg - Underwater UFO which is off the coast of the town in which Cluckin' Bell is based and which has numerous other egg references.

The jetpack - In GTA SA the jetpack was found at a military base. The UFO is above a military base.

 

The symbols could also represent the three main characters.

 

UFO - Michael - Alienated from his current life and also has several hallucinations about aliens.

 

Egg - Franklin - Youth hatching out of the environment that nurtured him into a new world

 

Jetpack - Trevor. Has a background of military flight.

 

See how the Jetpack and UFO are linked before the Egg comes into play? Maybe this represents the past of Michael and Trevor. They were linked but seperated and it's only through Franklin that they're brought back together. Each of the boxes represents the heists and the paths represent the illusion of choice throughout the game. Regardless of what choices you make, you still end the game in the same manner, with Franklin definitely alive. This is why his path is straight and goes to the top to view the UFO (his story is complete).

 

Plus the mural is full of Illuminati symbology, references to Hollywood film studios, etc, etc

It's all about establishing mise-en-scene to add verisimilitude to the world. If you have continual references to the illuminati, to aliens, to conspiracies, etc throughout the game it makes the appearance of such that more real.

 

Imagine the difference between the X-Files and CSI. Both shows deal with government law enforcement agencies but which one are you going to be more comfortable with if aliens suddenly appeared in the middle of an episode?

 

Naturally it would be the X-Files because that type of concept has been introduced constantly throughoutthe narrative and the world in which it is set.

I can confirm 100% that you can, indeed, see a VERY similar shape to the "jetpack stick man" in the Altruists camp. Seeing as there are so many clues to sun/light/shadows over there - and I did speak about it before around here, quite a few times - and there's this baseball bat as if to show you the exact place... I'm kinda believing that's exactly what they meant.

Maybe the "jetpack" shape is what the Altruists are seeing and praising/thanking. Maybe they think it's some sort of divine entity and that's why the altar is located over there.
