Decoding the Mount Chiliad Mural

I'm absolutely certain that the UFO appearances are the big easter egg of GTA5 and that the Chiliad mural is nothing more than instructions on how to see the UFO on top of the mountain. The "jetpack" picture is not a jetpack at all, but a symbol of the scuba gear and the three icons at the base of the mural merely indicate the 3 extracurricular activities needed for 100%. The red Xs correspond to glyphs on the mountain side, telling you to stand on top of the mountain at 3am in a rain storm.

 

GTA 5's "big secret" was already discovered in week one, but because of the resemblance of the scuba gear symbol to a jetpack, a lot of Don Quixotes have gone chasing after something that simply does not exist in the game.

 

If I'm wrong I will eat my own foot, but it seems that the obvious is staring us in the face and people are choosing to ignore it. The mural is a guide to sighting the UFOs, and nothing more than that.

Let me repeat something I said before: instead of talking and talking and talking about it, why not do it? Some people - me included - already replayed/re-finished the game and tried different options and a different choice at the end. Guess what, people? Nothing different happened. So I guess you have to try 31290571-56196174128412 combinations until you find the right one? C'mon, look around you and get back to reality.

 

Plus what's the point of replaying a mission? It's temporary and then you're thrown back to your current game - you won't get to see its outcome affecting the story. There's no point to it being part of the "mystery". It's supposed to be there so you can get the gold medals, just like it was in Ballad of Gay Tony.

To be honest, I think you're right (apart from the scuba gear, I still think it refers to the jetpack but to symbolise the Fort).

 

There most likely will be other easter eggs to find that are time and weather based and, also, are just simple pop culture references and jokes rather than anything astounding.

 

It's still fun to look though!

It does affect the game, but only with regards to the pyschological report you get at the end.

Well it did indicate the location of the glyphs that tell you what conditions are needed to see the UFO.

Well it did indicate the location of the glyphs that tell you what conditions are needed to see the UFO.

 

Good points but the only "prize" box that I can accept as the answer is the chicken factory, which could mean that other boxes are just locations but i'd like to think theres a jetpack and ufo somewhere we can operate. Either way its given us more the reason to explore the game and question everything.

Like I said before the mural may also be a pop culture reference to how popular the ancient alien theory is these days. The three boxes could represent the progression of man. A ufo which left an egg which brought on modern man(jetpack guy)

Just had a reply from rockstar after almost a week! Absolutely no help at all so anyone else trying to contact them I wouldn't bother! Asking me if ive got issues with gta v to send what format and gave saves ect!

I'd love to have a jetpack too, it was my favourite thing about GTA: SA. However, it seems obvious to me that the Chiliad mural simply indicates to the player the conditions they need to meet before they can see the UFO on the mountain top, and one of those conditions involves using scuba gear to gather the items needed for 100%.

 

It's like the clues have been decoded, the secret has been found, but people love the thrill of the chase so much that they can't accept the fox has been caught and the hunt is over.

I'm still not sold on the scuba gear, even if some items were underwater most weren't, I recall maybe 5 alien parts underwater maybe a few other underwater requirements and wouldn't a submarine picture be more fitting in this game. I think it will be obvious when we know what they mean for sure, you may be right but at this point im not convinced it's scuba gear and there could be nothing more to the mural than the ufo spawning

how did R* intend we see the ufo on Chiliad without the weather cheat?

rain is not super common in the game, and waiting for both rain + 3 am (the rain stops after several hours) is annoying as hell

 

since I'm confident they didn't intend for us to rely on the weather cheat this may imply we're missing a step

and trevor's bootie call is probably not it

 

I think the glyphs/clues should lead us to some mural-related method to trigger rain

we need to get back on the "correct" track of events before we can move forward

you can also make it rain by sleeping with another girlfriend. when you get a stripper to like you with franklich and she takes you home and it will also rain. you also need that activity to complete 100% so we could definetly know that it triggers rain (ursula is just a random encounter which you dont need for 100% completion)

I may have missed someone else mentioning this but the 'Alien code/glyphs' seen at the hippie camp and other places remind me a lot of the yoga instructions with the thumb sticks. Not really sure where I'm going with this but perhaps they are a sequence to do at yoga that may act like the other cheats? perhaps unlocking something alien/jetpack related? What do you guys think?

Scuba gear makes no sense as there is nothing coming out of the oxygen tanks when you dive. and usually you portray a scuba diver going downwards, as going downwards is kind of the whole point of diving. the only backpack that makes you go upwards, whether those lines present fire or slowmotion, represent the stickman going in an upwards direction. It's clearly a jetpack.

Look, that's the jetpack from SA. The thrust, and therefore the movement, is coming from much higher than shown on the mural. Also, the image on the mural has no flames or jet coming from it, no nozzle shapes near the top and it's much smaller.

 

I'm not trying to criticise your opinions as they are perfectly valid, I'm trying to highlight an alternative.

 

Regarding the suba gear, I agree other indicators like bubbles or waves would show they are underwater. But the diving gear on your back looks more like the image on the mural than the jetpack would if it was ported from SA. It's much more cylindrical and fits the shape better. The movement lines coming from it could just be the movement of you swimming. Plus, we know the scuba gear is in the game.

 

It's all a moot point anyway as it could also be interpreted to be a rucksack and represent you hiking up the mountain or somewhere else. It could by symbology for someone having a 'monkey on their back' if you use the theory that each symbol represents one of the main characters.

 

This is why I love semiotics!

they would have most likey changed the design from SA, if you look at real jetpacks people have invented the thrust always comes out the bottom
