London with a Lock Stock/Snatch/Rocknrolla theme to it would be fantastic. The one GTA I've been anticipating for ages now.

Well first of all op. this should be in general series sub-category, second R* made themselves pretty much clear that they won't leave US making GTA games in future, so it rules out London, which everyone route for so much, judging by the polls! And final and the most important R* never name in-game cities with their real counterparts, if we're talking about Las Vegas - then its Las Venturas, if we're talking about Miami - then its Vice City! Lets call things who they should be called and how R* imply it should be, it is better that way...yes this is pretty much nitpicking, but it had to be said, because some people around these forums fail to realize the difference between real setting and fictional, thats where all the GTA games take place!...And now back on topic, my favorite city is Las Vegas, so i'd prefer if R* made their next game in Las Venturas and if its possible in Vice City as well, so there would be more use of the jet planes and airports! (yes i know that both Miami and Las Vegas are on completely different sides of US, but it doesn't mean we should put both of those cities on a single map! After all R* could make two separate maps and when you fly a plane from one map to another the screen flashes with the loading screen, that says something like "welcome to Las Venturas" or among the lines and map instantly changes from Vice City's to Las Venturas' one!...).

I'm aware of that my friend, I know that they won't use the real-world names, I stated that myself in the original post. Whatever city they want to use, whatever name they want to call it, whatever location they'd like to place, I know that it would have to be fictional, not literally CHICAGO. I don't understand, after re-reading my own post several times how people keep making this error.

Secondly, this category is just fine, because I'm asking from a gameplay standpoint, which city would make for a new, fresh and unique experience. . I'd like you to show where or when Rockstar said the series wouldn't venture outside of America.

Regarding the two-city game, that would be really cool, I mean the sky is the limit with these new consoles and the power they have, but it would be awesome if they could render 2-3 huge cities (like the big three LA, NY, and CHI) for us to play around with. The multiplayer would be unprecedented, waiting for your buddies at the airport as they depart from their flight. There's so much they could do with that. Great Idea.

Well i should beg a pardon for the first part and i'll be honest, i didn't even read your whole post, because it seemed too long for me to read, so i jumped in arms with that post! LOL i'm sorry again for not reading carefuly, i know right now you want to punch me in the face (probably), but all i can ask for is a pardon! Hehe i hope we're fine! As for R* confirmation, that they won't make GTA game outside US, i think that came straight from their twitter, they said something like "the whole point of GTA series is to represent the culture of US and rural areas, so it wouldn't work for any other place outside US..." Not that literal, but thats basically what they've said...I can't provide you with the prove link, but i encourage you to surf around general series sub-forum and find it on your own if you don't believe me, also surfing in R*'s twitter also is a nice idea, thought it might end up time consuming!

Yeah, despite the comments that GTA will only be based in America, that would be awesome. I love those movies, and I wish there was more of a following with them that would cause more game developers to include it and London too into their works of fiction.

No no, I don't want to punch you lol I think we're okay, I forgive you, no harm done. Although honestly, not to make a crack at you, but people not reading all of the material or misinterpreting something seems to be a common blunder that causes comments like your original remark, many others like it (a few if you look back some previous posts).

But I might check out their twitter or the internet for that, I believe that they probably said that, and it's fine if you can't provide a link, I'm not some jerk who needs like verifiable evidence, this isn't a court of law you're not on trial my friend lol :D I suppose, if they stuck to that, that would rule out a large portion of different areas that have been discussed, although it's always to talk about them anyway.

Well based on those pictures, Miami does seem like a logical choice, I guess I can wait for a Chicago-themed GTA if that means it will only be better than it's predecessors. I can imagine it would be awesome, if on these hopefully very powerful next generation consoles if you could have a huge city like Miami, and still be able to take a boat or a plane and fly out to Rockstar's equivalent of Cuba, the Keys and the Bahamas.

Exactly. I think a lot of people are scared of going outside of the US due to the lack of access of guns or whatever. But I don't see how thats an issue, I mean sure guns are harder to get in the UK but they're still available, I can guarantee if I wanted I could go to the dodgy party of town, to the estates or a dodgy pub and find someone selling a small firearm, pistols and shotguns are fairly easy to get. Even seen a few UZI's being confiscated in a drug raid in the newspaper, not too far from my house.

Even so, this is Grand Theft Auto's own universe too, who's to say guns aren't readily available in the UK in that universe? It's not all the other GTA's following real life to the T, everything is greatly exaggerated. Been a criminal in GTA is a lot easier than real life lmao.

I'd just like somewhere else than the US. doesn't have to be London/Britain, though I think rather than going somewhere completely different and alienating everyone with a completel;y different culture and accents, setting it in London first would be better. Give people time to adjust.

Ever seen a French film called District 13? Set in France (obviously) and focuses on this city that's been closed off with a huge wall due to the high rate of crime within, police have completely pulled out and the criminals inside are allowed to run riot. Always thought that would be an interesting idea for a GTA game if they wanted to branch out from the US.

I know it is really ambitious, but if they could get a map (I'm talking huge, next-gen) from the English north/south divide, stretching up north to encompass all of Scotland, that'd be amazing. For those who live up north, I hope you can understand.

I myself am from Liverpool, and if there was a map that had the cities of Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh, with the beauty of the Lake District, the Grampian Mountains, the Yorkshire Moors, the Scottish Islands. What's more, these cities are where the rife with crime and glamour: football hooligans, drug kings, dodgy developers, the seedy sexy side of Edinburgh and organised crime live along side the music scene, the Edinburgh festival, movie making and sport that goes on.

Anyone think this is a good idea. Google it, the cities are all fascinating, as is the countryside.

Detroit/Windsor International Border!

With Detroit being bankrupt it gives an easy reason for a stark rise in crime, be it street or corporate. The cities of Detroit/Windsor is the largest trade crossing between Canada and the US and the single largest trade region in the world...it would be a shame if someone blew up the Ambassador bridge for economic gain, or destabilization. The water fronts of both cities are lined with Casinos and Adult entertainment, with local sports facilities nearby for added entertainment value (perhaps we can have baseball/football/hockey/basketball added to secondary events in the future.

The location of the towns has plenty of suburban and rural regions in the relative area, as well as plenty of lake access between St Clair/Huron/Erie. There are seaports and airports, there are deep seeded community divisions.

The only thing would be is the Windsor side would not be able to have weapons, and the AI would be required to be overly polite.

OP, I get your love of Chicago, but it'll never be in GTA because it's basically just a smaller NYC. There's nothing really different enough to make it thematically different.

If not a return to Vice City, then Detroit could make it because the theme is of poverty and a brokedown city. Las Vegas could make it with the mafia and casinos. I definitely think Mexico City could make it, even though it's not in the US.

I've never seen District 13 but Peter Jackson's District 9 was a very gritty look at the life of squalor in the African cities. I'm not like "dying" for them to take the franchise to a new foreign country/city, but I would welcome it if was executed properly. I think London is the logical choice, as you said it, give people time to adjust and to wet their appetites if they like the new approach or not. And that's the thing people might be missing, is that regardless of what city or location Rockstar has in mind or the fans want, they can tweak and refine certain aspects or details about it to make sure it's not just a free-roam in this city or that city.

I know it is really ambitious, but if they could get a map (I'm talking huge, next-gen) from the English north/south divide, stretching up north to encompass all of Scotland, that'd be amazing. For those who live up north, I hope you can understand.

I'll have to google it I suppose, but that is quite the load of information, very good post even if I don't know what exactly you are talking about. Just based on things I've seen in movies, tv shows like History channel, Travel and Discovery, reading in books or on the internet, London does have a deep and rich culture which would be a pleasure to explore and unravel in a GTA-titled sand-box game.

Hm, I didn't notice I laid it on that thick! lol Well, I disagree that Chicago is just a small NYC. New Yorkers pride themselves on being distinct from Chicagoans. And I won't even go down that road about Chicago being "nothing different" but Detroit is lol that's laughable I'm sorry. Nothing against Motown but I just think that's being real picky-choosy about the most ideal theme for a city and thus, a fallacy.

It doesn't even have to be the modern age, but regardless of the era you go back to, it's not as if Chicago doesn't have a huge corruption issue, or a long and documented history with the mafia as well as prevalent and incessant gang violence, drugs, unemployment, and yes, poverty too. Chicago may not be as bad as Detroit, but why is that the standard or a pre-requisite? New York isn't nearly as bad as Chicago, and no one here or there will tell you that either of these cities are as bad as Detroit, so how does that logic explain Rockstar using LA, Miami and even New York as their inspiration?

Now look, if you made it this far into my comment before jumping to any conclusions or making rash comebacks, I don't mean to sound off like some dictator who says "if you don't agree with me, I subject your reality and substitute my own", you have the right to your own opinion, and it's always a case of "different strokes for different folks" but just try to understand, I'm not saying you have to agree that GTA should be set where I say it should it be set, but know that your argument for why Chicago is invalid is... Well hogwash.

Detroit would be good. it doesnt have the biggest downtown area but its total area is bigger than NYC and LA combined! plus it has the Ambassador bridge to Canada. living in Detroit myself, i know it would be perfect for GTA mostly because it has such a unique culture different from other American cities

I couldn't agree more. It's the perfect city for a GTA.

I personally think if they do a new GTA it may incorporate all 4 cities (Los Santos, Vice City, Liberty City, and Carcer City-which could be Detroit or Chicago) and allow the main antagonist (or multiple antagonists) to travel through the cities.

I'd love to do a "generations" style game where each city is set in a certain time frame. maybe the rise and fall of a crime family from each city.

Alright listen up. YOU CAN NOT set GTA in a real city. End of. There's a myriad of reasons but here's one that should really be enough - look at Liberty City and Los Santos. They're big enough for the purposes of the game but are they even close to the size of a real city? No. Do you know why? Rockstar set their games in fictional cities BASED ON real cities because if you set it in ie; New York you commit yourself to the ridiculous task of mapping out an entire city, accurately, so that people won't play it and say -

"waaaahhh that's not what Central Park looks like"

"omg idiots the statue of liberty is nowhere near that size"

"wtf u suck moronz the f*ckin hudson doesn't go thru there"

A real city is far too big to realistically even consider the task of mapping the entire f*cking thing out in a game.

To people who live in Chicago, I'm sure they could come up with reasons as to why it is unique or special, but to the average American (which I think I am...mid-30s...been to both NYC and Chicago at different times) Chicago is just an average city.

It doesn't even have to be the modern age, but regardless of the era you go back to, it's not as if Chicago doesn't have a huge corruption issue, or a long and documented history with the mafia as well as prevalent and incessant gang violence, drugs, unemployment, and yes, poverty too. The "choosing" has nothing to do with crime at all. It has everything to do with a city being unique in some way that MOST PEOPLE know about.

NYC is the pinnacle of the American "big city" with a storied history.

Detroit is not, by any stretch. Why it might be a good choice is because it's completely busted. lol That's what makes it unique.

Vegas is unique.

Again...really have to give the nod to Mexico City though.

^ any of these places in here.

most notable:

any Canadian city, dubai, sydney or melbourne australia, seattle washington, places such as those.

or the Caribbean areas, the Bahamas, havana, kingston!

could go on for days about the possibilities...

i think i would want seattle, vancouver, and kingston/havana and any australian setting for the next gta game. it would be incredible. orlando would be refreshing as well. it wouldn't be miami so we would essentially get the same kind of city we were used to in vice city, but yeah.

London in the uk would be great (there was GTA London but think that was in the 60's, and old birdseye view)

How about the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area.

You have the falls, the stupid skyway thingy, a border into canada (The part that would interest me the most), Season like fall/winter would be possible, just a whole bunch of stuff.

Just imagine riding over the falls. All i have to say.

I think it should be in southwest USA, about a hundred years ago, and then call it Red Dead Redemption 2.

Rockstar has a habit of revisiting past locations on the current/next gen consoles. Realistically I would imagine they would revisit Vice City in their next adaptation.

However, I would like to see the series leave the US and return to the UK. They have only visited the country in the 2D genre and a 3D sequel would be a laudable move. I believe there is much potential to produce a profound story around multi-cultural London or other cities (Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow even). Imagine how Rockstar could utilize football hooliganism, the 'chav' culture or even explore the upper classes in their games. It would make for a brilliantly dynamic cast of characters and gameplay features; drug dealing in the ghettos of Manchester to equestrian in Cotswold. There's plenty of countryside too.

Because there's only real cities in the poll...None of the above. Vice City or Las Venturas gets my vote.

And you will never see a GTA outside North America or GB cause everything is based around these stereotypes.
