creepy easter egg: signals in ocean

Joined just for this interesting thread. I decoded the signal using the RX-SSTV software, which gives the following image

oQHEtp1.png

Apparently, this time it's a whole other image.

Isn't that the famous pic of the earth rising from the surface of the moon?

I got that beeping noise while in a parachute near the los santos airport, I thought it was like a radar for air traffic intruders. I also had the white circles on the map (like a radar).

Those beeps sound like the Radio from Portal. I think it's fake.

You think it's fake because the Portal Radio also had some SSTV images?

it took me like 4 hours of sailing back and forth to get to the right spot, but i finally did it. when you get in the ''signal bubble'', even if the radio is off it will start to jitter and distort. about 5 seconds later some microsoft sam-ish voice starts reading off letters nad numbers, i turned my volume up and wrote them all down:

9DD2897A
0D69C42D
7DE71CD
?D0277 (couldn't make out the first letter)
91D90EC
1DD0174
there's another few seconds of silence, and then the 'radio distortion' starts. the most important thing i noticed is that it isn't radi distortion or morse code; it's a musical key followed by some kind of raw radio broadcast.
there's a few seconds of a high-pitched musical callsign at the end and beginning of the signal. After that, it goes completely silent.
more details; i did this while playing as michael, but just to replicate what OP did. i still dont know if it makes any difference
the in-game phone said it was just after 2 AM when the signal started playing
there's a pretty small 'bubble' of space where it plays way, way in the ocean. like, near the corner of the map. when I character swapped after finishing the signal, i could see where the clouds cut off
if I'm right, the bubble can only appear in a certain time (probably 12-3 AM, knowing how the other easter eggs use the same process) and maybe a certain weather (it was perfectly clear but I don't know how it was for op/anyone else this happened to, so I have nothing to compare to)
the 'beeping' sounded a lot like a fax machine. there was about 2-3 seconds of a high-pitched musical key, then another maybe 45 seconds of monotonic beeps going up and down in pitch (best i can describe it). then the same/similar musical key at the end, then... silence

Those are hexadecimal pointers

Ok, I am going to go try this out tonight. I have an HD capture card. I am getting tired of watching these bad quality videos. It is nice to contribute but we need a better source for this. I can bring the dingy out there with my scuba gear. If I find the correct spot, I can go back out with the sub later.

BTW, the numbers posted earlier starting with 9DD28978 do not even correlate to the ones I am hearing in the lastest video.

I distinctively heard one DF001667 and I do not see that in the list, along with a lot of others.

I think this radio transmission might be part of the Lost Easter egg because it seems like its near the glowing hatch which ppl are saying is a nod to the hatch from the tv show lost which in fact had a numbers station that they had to type in a series of numbers over and over after a period of time.

Looking forward to seeing your results.

As we have seen not only the numbers are different, but also the SSTV images from the two videos are different. Perhaps there's a number of different broadcasts. What I do find weird is that both videos contain this cell phone noise right before the broadcast start. Perhaps it's a hoax after all?

Anyway, waiting for your results :)

What is probably happening is the fact it is not coming through your radio but your phone. Since both videos, no one was actually driving the boat. Once you stop driving, radios turn off. That sound you are hearing before it starts is what normally happens when a cell signal gets messed up by other means. We used to hear noises like what when speakers interfere with cell or even radar detectors from cop radar guns and cell phones ringing in. I used to hear noises like that on a radar detector right before I would get a call on the phone.

So this signal sounds like it is interupting either the speakers in the vehicle or the cell signal in your phone. Might have to do a quick save and come up with different results like activating your phone in some way then reloading and trying other things.

Can't wait to get a clear reading of these hexadecimals, they must mean something. Could try converting pairs to ASCII.

Luxor14, nice try troll.

He's not trolling. I did it and got the same image. Here's a screenshot to prove it.

No need to clean the sound up. Just install RX-SSTV. Click setup then Soundcard Input then play the video. Works like a charm.

I think an apology is in order.

Great work LuXor14 and everyone who contributed. I think we completly solved a GT5 easter egg.

I've now got a nice new toy to add to my ham radio collection.

73 LuXor14 ZL2MGD out. :)

so what is the easter egg? i dont get it pardon my ignorance. what is sstv ?

Ok, I just tried it myself.

First I tried to figure out the spot as exact as possible by using this still from the first video:

UR51iwv.png

I set a waypoint on the map by switching back and forth between the main menu and the map, as a reference I used the parts of land that are visible in the still. I'm sure I matched them up almost exactly. I then went there as Trevor on a jetski and sailed around the point between 22:00 and 04:00. I tried approaching with radio off, radio on, different channels etcetera.

Unfortunately I heard nothing. BUT I don't have 100% completion, so that could explain it.

Hopefully not being 100% is not going to matter. I am not sure. I am going to need some kind of location to start from. I went all the way out to the most northwest corner of where i can place a marker and nothing yet.

Nothing yet. I haven't been able to go out in the last 2 hours though. I was eating dinner and watching some big bang with the wife until I can sneak away.

There are far too many references in GTAV to aliens for this to be a coincidence. Or a huge troll by R*. That picture could be taken from aliens observing Earth.

The little kid in me thinks that R* is planning on releasing an alien invasion DLC, just to show that whatever Saints Row does, it can do better.

It'd be nice if all the easter eggs are present in GTA Online, we can investigate it together easier.than using the forum hahaha

It is slow scan televison. It is a way of sending video over a voice bandwidth channel. The international space station uses it amongst other communication forms.

I'd say the easter egg is aliens scanning/photografing earth from space. That may be all there is to it but it could lead to more.

Wasn't all of this proven to be fake. You need someone with an actual capturecard to get this audio. I've spent quite a bit of time in that area and haven't heard anything. All the audio we're hearing is from an external source, not the game directly.. Easy to be faked.

There is a French guy also decoding SSTV from GTA5 that gives coordinates.

I highly doubt these are fake.

You misunderstand. The image isnt fake, the sounds are not fake either. Them being in the game, that is what is faked. Unless someone with a capturecard gets to those locations and gets total INGAME audio of it, there is no way to tell. both vids are taken with someone using a phone camera, and both can easily be faked by playing the sounds from your computer when you unpause/get to the location.

These are so easy to make as well. If the OP would give a location marker with the map, then maybe I would waste more time going out there, but this is fake, for real.

LoL man even with a capture card you can fake it. Just play audio from a different source mixed into the realtime capture or do the same after the fact and re-render the video.

So many disbelievers, have a little faith.

That's also true. Basically what we need is better evidence than just lol go NW, There isn't much detail when you reach the edge of the ocean, so it's a lot of random looking, but if he placed markets at the points of where the map cuts off and the deadzone is and where he is in terms of that, it woul dbe way f*cking easier to figure this out. Yet OP nor the guy who made the video has replied, neither want to.

Have you heard the sound? Do you know for a fact that it's there? Or are you just going along with what two shady videos say?

If we can get more than just two people, who may be the same person, to have proof of the sound, then maybe it'll be more believable. But that isn't the case.

Also faith? In what? The supposed pin point dot in the middle of the ocean near a killzone, looking for a SSTV signal that is probably fake [as in not ingame] using images that are going to throw a frenzy into the easter egg search.. Yeah, I don't have any faith in it. When I hear it for myself or see something better than shakey phone video with speaker disruption and audio issues, yeah I'll start to believe a little better. Not everything is a f*cking mystery, nor is it meant to be.
