Like most people here, I love all the protagonists. For me, though, Trevor just wins. He is the most vibrant, outlandish character in the history of the entire GTA franchise. I love the over the top, batsh*t crazy.

Mikey but all of them are good in their own way.

That's funny how Trevor gets all the hate and is frequently mentioned in the 'Worst GTA Protagonists/Characters" type threads, yet he also wins here... and I vote for him 'cause at least he's definitely not boring. He could've been done a little better though, that's for sure.

Well, this thread was back in 2013, back when the game was fresh, so maybe everyone liked Trevor at that time.

I personally relate so much to Michael and also kinda/sorta look up to him, so he is my favorite.

Trevor, easily. He basically IS gta all wrapped up into one bundle of a nasty character. Michael and Franklin, however, feel like they should be focusing on other things than crime and heists. Michael feels like he should be trying to reconcile with his family, and Franklin seems like he has a good head on his shoulder and should be applying his energies into something other than crime.

Eeek Trevor sucks to me. I just don't like him lol.

But Franklin is boring.

Michael De Santa is dynamic, interesting, his family is a mess, and he's the best of the three by far.

Michael today, Michael tomorrow, Michael a year from now.

I swear I never play Trevor or Franklin unless forced to. I love Michael's Obey Tailgater too.

My choice is 100% Franklin, and if you think about it, he should be everybody's choice. The reason being, most of us are millennials and we could relate to him the most, his story is also similar to that of CJ in GTA SA, in the way he raises to the top and ends up living successful life in a beautiful mansion with infinity pool and a millionaire, the position of his house in vinewood hills also resembles "the world is your oyster -- all this is yours."

I play Michael as a second favorite as I believe he is the MAIN character, and I believe most of the eastereggs and mysteries are tied to him, since the epsilon and all, however his situation i cannot relate to, I am sure for someone who is older and has a family he is more relatable, he too lives a mess of a life, and it seems to go much better in the end, but in reality he is just getting balls to finish the unfinished business when it comes to his life, he got too comfortable too soon, too many lose ends.

Least relatable character is Trevor, I am sure there are people who relate, more of a midlife crisis single guys who would just want to say f*ck you to the world and do whatever they want with insane confidence and respect, but to me from a side he seems just deranged.

3 choices in the end of the game, to kill Michael or to kill Trevor, or "the suicide" option being fantasy, there is a reason to kill either one, either decision perfectly justifiable, but if you were Franklin, you would likely kill Trevor, deranged, no family, someone you would not want to associate with when you live in a mansion and millions of $$$.

Remarkable how it's a almost an equal split between those three, six years later.

I changed my mind too.

I like them all, Franklin could have been a little more fleshed out.

His story arc seems rushed.

He definitely got the best special ability imo.

Michael is a snitch and backstabber but his voice actor is doing a great job.

Truthfully they are all not very good main characters in my opinion. However I will give my opinions on all 3 :

Michael -  I like him a person, but his story and setting is boring. Just don’t care for that corny Hollywood suburban family theme.

Trevor - the worst GTA protagonist ever, I cannot believe Rockstar wasted a main character on him.

Franklin - Quite annoying dialogue coming from him at times, but he is the only GTA protagonist in V that fits the way I like to play the game with regards to his criminal ambitions and activities.

Michael for me, gameplay wise hes boring since theres literally nothing to do with him post-story other than driving luxury/classic cars and playing tennis/golf, but personality and story wise hes just the most developed and interesting protagonist of the game, best voice acting too, and fells the most human/realistic of the three (he really feels like a depressed sociopath, unlike trevor where he acts very cartoony) Franklin is ok, and just ok, no redeeming qualities from him i think. With trevor it feels writers didnt know what to do with him apart from being crazy so they smashed all the things the could have think of, making hil feel like a cartoon, hes very inconsistent too.

I love Trevor, because I generally like psychopats. He is my cup of tea. Also love the actor behind him, which played in serious B movies and Walking Dead.

Well, I don't really like any of them.

Furthermore, If I had to pick, it'd probably be Franklin. I like his actor, as well as his missions and ambitions throughout the game. Plus, Trevor is a complete psychopath and I basically can't stand him, plus what he did to Floyd left a bad taste. Michael is, well, Meh. He's an old, depressed, rich white guy with an annoying family. Bland and Stereotypical to me.

For me Trevor is by far the most compelling character of the three with an intense performance from Steven Ogg, has to be him. Second best GTA protagonist after Niko. Michael would've had a shot as he's also acted very well and does have some interesting character traits but they made him too goofy with his dumb family walking all over him and him getting easily fooled all the time. At the end of the game he genuinely believes he's a movie producer when he's just been exploited as a hired goon, ridiculous. Franklin is an underdeveloped character, there's some hints of an interesting sarcastic/deadpan humour side that I wish was more prominent but overall he's meh.

I don't know why but I was rewatching GTA V story and Franklin has really grown on me over time. I wouldn't place him above Michael, but I really think there was a great character in there that Rockstar just didn't bother to flesh out. We really should have seen more of Franklin's growing up & Gang stuff before he got tangled with Trevor & Michael. It would have made for a more compelling character. We barely see ANYTHING from Franklin, he just gets thrust in to the story.

I have to agree. He hasn't really grown on me but there was definitely untapped potential. There's hints of a dry witty side to his personality that I like and he has some great lines but there isn't enough of it, too often they gave him bland dialogue instead. Like there'll be a scene with the three of them with a really entertaining exchange between Michael and Trevor, and Franklin's only role will be to say "calm down". And they badly neglected his backstory and character development. If as much attention had been paid to him as Michael and Trevor he could've been much better.

I actually really enjoy Franklin and Lamar together. Like I've said before, they remind me of the movie Friday so much which is one of my all-time favourites. I'd be surprised if that wasn't the inspiration for Rockstar. They way they interact is so similar. Franklin definitely had a lot of potential, but they made him out to be so one sided and boring. It's a shame. Those moments where you see hints of his real personality shining through is the best.

Franklin I know people dont really like him but i think if he was the only protagonist and they did his character right he would have been great I like the others but I always thought Franklin was better for a playable character he was young and in a gang doing jobs with his friend stealing cars. Idk just me I guess

Agreed. The thing is when it's him and Lamar and he's more the "straight man" I don't mind so much because Lamar is so over the top and that's how their dynamic works. But then he's still just the straight man with everyone else as well and it's boring. Instead of giving him great lines and back and forths they often use his dialogue just to move the scene along/end an argument to get on with the mission. And the severe lack of gang/hood themed missions or side missions (instead he gets...towing cars) and nothing happening in his personal story (his ex showing up a couple times is a joke, basically his entire story is just his part in the heists/main storyline while Michael and Trevor have loads more other stuff going on) doesn't help with making him seem more interesting either. I enjoy the good lines/exchanges that he does have in the game every so often, him and Lamar together and also him and Chop/dogs in general haha, but could've been so much more.

That sums it up really well, and why the Lamar scenes work well. He doesn't really bounce off Michael or Trevor because it's a totally different dynamic. He had some good moments with Michael early on, but I felt like they lost his charm as the game got further along, and the story becomes more focused on everyone else but Franklin who is basically just the third wheel.

This is why GTA V should have had Story DLC, a prequel focused on the earlier portions of the characters would have been really welcomed in my view. Especially Franklin, who needed it the most. He doesn't get the flashback parts like Trevor & Michael with Brad.
