Stealth system and car saving?

Hey guys, just wanted to see if you guys were having some of the same problems/questions I've been having lately while playing the game.

I like the game a ton, but stealth seems kind of pointless to me. I haven't been able to see any real difference between doing something in stealth mode or using a suppressor. I've tried playing with it, and sometimes I slaughter someone using an assault rifle with no suppressor and nothing happens; other times I give off one shot with a silenced pistol and cops are all over me.

That leads me to my first question, which is has anyone figured out how/why cops come? It seems almost completely random, when you commit a crime, if the cops show up. They appear fairly consistently when I blow something up but if I shoot someone or steal a car it seems completely random when they choose to appear.

My other question is related to saving cars, and I know there have been a few glitches in this area. All the characters seem to have a "default" car; that is, the car that they're in whenever the game starts, like the truck Trevor drives, the Audi (idk and didn't bother finding the in-game names) Mike has and the Dodge/bike Franklin has.

However, sometimes the default cars switch whenever I save a vehicle, and I can't figure out how or why. I parked a Ferrari outside Frank's house and suddenly that became his default and it appeared everywhere with him, and Mike's car suddenly switch to another one for reasons I can't explain. I don't know whether something's happening and I'm just missing it or if it's bug related.

TL;DR,

1. How does the game decide when cops show up? Does it have anything to do with stealth at all?

2. How do you select your default car?

1. If you causing plenty of mayhem, the cops usually show up. Having a suppressor helps but if you're using it in sight of other pedestrians then they can call the police and get you a wanted level. But being smart about your surroundings and using stealth ALONG with an suppressor allows you to kill a few people without the feds popping up.

2. I haven't really cared about this since I'm done with the story mode. But I have noticed that cars do stay outside of Franklin's house when you park them there. You don't even have to put them in the garage.

Zzmorg82, in regards to the stealth, I don't feel like that at all. It's common for me to kill someone in the middle of nowhere, with a suppressor, and have the cops show up from the ends of the earth.

I think the effectiveness of stealth is determined by the characters stealth skill level. If it's low, the cops will be onto you right away whereas if it's high, you have a little more leeway.

I think the only character who's special car changes is Michael. If you remember, I think it was tied to a mission when Michael is in exile or maybe when driving skill level goes up, you get a phone call from Jimmy who talks about having finished fixing up Michael's car. When you return home after that, the GM Sedan(I think) is gone and the Audi(I think) shows up. I assume that in the earlier missions Michael had a rental or something.
