Your problems with the Police A.I./Tactics, post them here.

I personally, only have a very small collection of problems with the police in GTA V.

1. Police helicopters, they're as fast a military grade fighter jets, (Top speed in the lightning, and the 5-0 choppers are right up my arse) and their door gunners have a ridiculously high accuracy at extreme ranges. I'm talking, 500-1000m away from your plane, and still being able to shoot you out of the air.

2. Once again, police helicopters. They can spawn anywhere, how is that bad? I'm at the height ceiling for the game, there's no police anywhere in site. Suddenly two police helicopters spawn right on top of me. 2 miles above the map... Wtf, seriously.

3. *Silenced weapon* *back alley* *snipes cop* *Instant 3 stars* HOW?! NOBODY saw me do it, the cop was dead before he could even react. WHO CALLED IN THE 3 STARS?! Same goes for any authority in the game. You can't stealth kill cops/military. You can't sneak into the military base by way of stealth, you just get a wanted level no mater what you're doing for being in Fort Zancudo/the prison.

4. Police can respond to ANYWHERE. Shoot a single person on top of Mt. Chiliad with a silenced weapon? Here comes a sheriff bahaing it straight up the side of the mountain for you. What, the HELL is he doing up there?! How did he even get up here?!

And those are my 4 problems with the police. Other than that, I love the new system, you can actually hide in an alleyway to lose your wanted level now! Turn off your lights, round the corner, and watch as the police go screaming by you, thinking you're still going down the road. Love the new sight based system, it's just a real shame that they have so much emphasis on stealth combat that you can't actually use aside from scripted story events...

You can get a wanted level because some guy doesn't like the way you look. f*cking stupid. That's way too far. Especially in a game where rednecks can steal PMC cargo planes by landing duster planes in them. I mean, take some liberties here, rockstar.

Thank goodness for million dollar tank flavored delicious revenge.

I can't enjoy police shootouts due to the police snipers in helicopters one precise shot and your dead

also I tried trespassing into military base and one lone soldier gunned me down.

Agree with this, especially the last two. If you're gonna make it realistic, make it realistic all the way. When you kill a cop with a silencer, nobody can have heard it, and if you do it out of sight nobody could have seen you. So why a wanted level?

They also really need to stop with the "Wanted level for crashing a plane" bullsh*t. I know that one is realistic, but I like skydiving from the maximum altitude.

Edit: Come to think of it, how the f*ck would they even know I was responsible for that plane and why wouldn't they call medical instead of just trying to arrest me?

lol I tried to shoot out a light with a silencer while tryna break into Zancudo and all f*cking hell broke loose.

I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when they were in the stealth development stage.

People can say "Well it's so you can't just walk into the base, without it it would be EZ"

No it's just a contrived mess because I'm trying to SNEAK in. not walk in.

Why bother with adding Stealth if your not going to do it properly. half assing it just makes it worse than if it wasn't a feature. At least we'd all know where we stand and avoid a ton of in game frustration and sighs.

This thread should be stickied.

This is kind of minor, although I don't think I have a problem driving, the cop that gets in front of you has superhuman reflexes. Just a 1/4 second slower would be funner and more realistic.

Edit,

there cars are a little fast as well. I understand the highway cops being fast, but at no time should they be able to keep up with a Lambo.

LOL, I had no idea.

Hang out by the hen house as trevor. If some chick asks you to leave, don't. She'll call the f*cking cops on you. f*cking bullsh*t. Not to mention she was doing it during a property purchase cinematic camera pan, so I couldn't do anything.

Some good points in here. My biggest beef with the police is how there isn't a single police car just out patrolling. I don't think I've even seen a cop just walking around patrolling.

Knowing that you will not run into a cop in the streets changes the game for me. Unless they are chasing someone or one of the randomly parked cop cars you pass, you won't see one until you start getting a wanted level.

In gta4 if you were driving bad and happened to crash into a cop car then you had to run. It kept you on your toes about driving too crazy if you didn't want a chase. With GTA 5, as long as I don't run over any peds, I'm fine.

I think the system is in part designed more for online. Once a group of us get in there and start messing around there should be plenty of cops around just because of the mayhem.

that last just isnt true there not as common but i have seen both a lcsd and lspd car cruising streets. in fact the lspd was the only buffalo ive seen. i agree with everything else posted and the police should come see wtf if someone calls not give you wanted level automaticly.

Its a game feature which requires coding and as such requires rules. Learn the rules and learn the consequences of breaking those rules.

eg. if you kill law enforcement it automatically gives 3 star wanted level. If you don't want a 3 star wanted level then don't kill law enforcement - very simple.

Agree 100% with what you said. You should send this page to R*. Also:

-You crash into ANYONE, and you get an INSTANT 1 star. Literally instant, even though no cops were around, and nobody had time to even call the cops.

-You stand in front of someone for too long, and they call the cops. Yeah right.

Cops are EXTREMELY RARELY seen patroling. I know by the satalites in the desert you often see scientists and FBI agents in buffalos/SUVs.

There is also a U turn outlined in this thread http://gtaforums.com/topic/596527-unmarked-police-cruiser-and-fib-vehicle-locations/ where one can find police vans, unmarked vics, and Buffalos.

Aside from outside the police station, I've never seen a cop on foot, and police cars that are not chasing an NPC/me are an EXTREMELY rare sight.

The LSPD always drive interceptors, almost never crown vics.

Punching an officer is an instant three star wanted level, unlike prior games where it gave you only one star.

A one star wanted level escalates to a second star almost instantly. I know in GTA4 you could drive/run away for a very long time before getting a second star unless you make a run for it when you put your hands up.

In GTA V you get a second star for "Resisting arrest" if you don't pull over within like 5 seconds. I've even had cases where an officer ran towards to bust me, but by the time he got up to me (I was standing perfectly still) enough time had passed to give a second star, making him open fire.

I've noticed the "Instant" wanted level issue too. I remember in GTA 4 it would take about 10 seconds or so for the stars to actually appear. You'd see peds use the phone to dial 911. In GTA V you get the wanted level instantanously.

I was swiming in the ocean & I lost my boat then a police boat showed up and talked to me saying something like '' Hey, come up buddy! '' so I jumped into the boat and then 2 stars popped and the police killed me...................................

I tried taking a picture with two friendly looking army dudes by the bridge to Fort Zancudo, but they shot me dead as I was lining up the shot. :(

EDIT: This guy was friendly enough, though:

-I hate how accurate the cops are when firing. They don't miss a single shot even when I'm in my car.... I die quite fast when I slow down...

-I don't like how I get an automatic 2 stars once they realize I'm trying to run away from a 1 star level.

-I was hiding behind a concrete wall that belonged to a house and the only way to get in was a gate that you couldn't see through. The street that the house was on had plenty of other houses but the cop just knew that I was in that certain house. He opened the gate, saw me, and started firing at me.

-A man was trying to attack me, so I got into a car, hit him for self defense and I got cops on my tail...

The cops in this game are just too sensitive. You can't even have a nice shootout with them because they're all so accurate.

It irritates me when the police hit the back of your car

Police cars aren't as fast as some sports cars never mind super cars.

It is absolutely true. There are no patrol cops. You may have seen them after they finished a chase or your wanted level cleared.

They are only parked on the sides of roads here and there, scripted to chase NPCs or have shoot outs with gangs or respond to whatever crime you are doing. You will never just see a cop patrolling like they have in every other GTA game made so far.

Again, I do think they need to change police helicopters to simply spotters until 4 - 5 stars. People need more time focusing on only the police without the insane accuracy/stalking of helicopters.

  • 2 weeks later...

My main problem with the cops is that it seems like they are drawn to my location/ hiding-spot.

This one time I was driving away from a 2 star cops and I managed to get a distance between me and the cops pursuing me, so I decide to make a turn and hide in a parking space and just wait them out, then a cop car spawns on the map and starts driving towards my area, my first thought was that the cop was just going to drive past my location, but no it slowed down makes a turn and drives to my location, spots me and opens fire. I got away but still it annoys me.

There was this other time I shot two hikers with a silenced rifle/sub (I was annoyed cause I was trying to hike the mountain but ran into a slippery area that I couldn't drive/run past so I killed them cause they were a lie) in a remote area and no-one around, no-one to witness the crime but I get a wanted level.

Silenced guns and sneaky knock-outs don't do sh*t outside scripted mission events.

They're too quick to draw their guns, and if you're not shooting or fighting back, they should try an arrest instead of to kill. Also they shouldn't be on your location in seconds if you're not in a built up area. Other than this they are fine.

I've seen police cruisers pass by very slowly on dangerous hoods, for example I was taking pictures of the marabunta grande gangsters (R* made an awsome job with them, f*cking freak me out like a real salvatrucha would) then i see a cruiser pass by very slowly and honking their intermitent siren as they pass by, like if they were looking at them. awsome sh*t, try it.
