Xbox shuts off, two red lights flash after just 5 minutes of playing

I'm really frustrated right now and don't really understand why this is happening :/

I played a lot since the release and actually managed to beat the game, but at one point when I was playing my console shut itself off, and then two red lights started blinking (the left two, if that matters).

Then I went online and read that two lights means the console is overheating, so I moved things around on my desk so that the console has more than enough room to breath, and I even moved the power brick out from behind my desk and put it on top to let it get some air, too.

But, now it keeps happening. I can't play for even 5 minutes without the console shutting off. I've never had this happen with any other game, and I've been able to watch Netflix for hours without this happening since I started having this issue. I feel like it's a problem specific to GTA V but I don't know.

I'm going to try playing a different game for a bit and see if it still overheats.

Has anyone else had this happen? I haven't read about anyone else having this happen to them. I really hope my console isn't dying because I'm pretty sure the warranty is long expired by now and I do not have the money to buy a new one.. :(

You could try opening up your xbox and clean the dust from your fans/components it may help. Be very careful not to break anything. Lots of videos on youtube that show you how to do it. Personally I got a small box under my xbox with a fan pointed towards it when I play to increase airflow.

The last time I opened up a 360 it did not turn out well lol

I just had my dad use his air compressor to blow out all the dust, fingers crossed.. but I'm pretty pessimistic at this point :(

Shooting air into the air vents of the Xbox might just make it worse, it's best to actually open it and then use a air compressor.

Red Ring of Death it's time for a new console buddy. Unless you know what your doing if you crack it open you might make it worse. I have two fans hooked up to mine one is like a stand and it vents air from the bottom and the other is on the back with its own heat sensor and vents even if I'm not playing.

Be careful using a compressor to blow air into delicate electronics! Depending on how pressurized the line is, you might blow out all the dust - and some of the electronic parts! I ruined one of my old desktop PCs trying to clear the dust out of it with a compressor at work.
