godforgivesthelostdont
Michael is a strong character, but the other two protagonists have more complications. Franklin is just a Carl Johnson clone, who never evolves. He's the same character, start to finish. Nothing wrong with only wanting money, but Rockstar could have added more depth to him. Trevor is immensely entertaining, but his erratic hostile outrageous and vulgar personaltiy makes it hard to sympathize with him during moments where Rockstar essentially commands you feel sorry for him. Lester is also a difficult dichotomous character. With his disability and his social awkwardness, it's like we're supposed to pity him, but we can't because he has blood on his hands as well. Wade, Floyd, Chop and especially Lamar are well done characters. Jimmy is a good character, but Tracey and Amanda, full of less hilarious moments is two-dimensional. Nervous Ron was a disappointment. I thought he was going to be a great character, but in the end, he's just a suckup to Trevor. I imagined doing lots of conspiracy-related missions for him (like The Truth) would be entertaining, but in the end, he isn't fleshed out well. Dave Norton and Steve Haines are capable but forgettable antagonists. Yes, they're assholes, but I neither hate them or empathize with their cause, so, despite their large role in the story, they just take up space. Martin Madrazo, despite having a HUGE role in the story, is more of a device than a character. Easy to set into motion and all to easy to make go away. Realistic Steak Cult
It would be different with one playable character. The story ahve to flow faster with 3 characters, so a lot of things are unexplained or quick. Its not a problem for me, I can use my imagination. Also I noticed that protagonists progress during the story. Michael can visit therapist and then he changes his attitude towards his family near the story end. Trevor at certain point thinks that he is hispter and he keeps saying it in random encounters. Franklin.... he doesnt change at all. He doesnt know what he wants. Just a character added to satisfy needs of people obssesed with GTA:SA and gangs.

Bonnano
How's Chop a well done character? Does he has personality or what? I found Jimmy to be the perfect equivalent of Roman, he is kind of likable, as a character, lol. Edited September 22, 2013 by Bonnano

Martin Madrazo, despite having a HUGE role in the story, is more of a device than a character. Easy to set into motion and all to easy to make go away. Franklin's development isn't quite non existent. I can't quite put it into words. He does evolve briefly by stretching his 'wings' a bit more, only to realize there's really nothing to new to fly to, it's the same thing but the scale is larger. So he evolves a little, then goes back but gains the wisdom of the experience. Trevor well, I could never feel sorry for him no matter how much Rockstar tried to. After he cowardly and brutally murdered Johnny for a very trivial reason any chance of me liking, identifying with or enjoying that character was destroyed in that one moment that should have been written in a fanfic somewhere, not by Rockstar. Murdering Floyd only further cemented my opinion of him . He wonders why he is all alone and does stuff like that, gee whiz, ummmmmm..... It's a shame I could have liked him but they took his erratic side much too far. Sure some people like that, but I'd be very surprised if these people actually think much about story and character in general... that's okay and all, but it doesn't change the fact that it makes Trevor an impossible character to identify with. The rest of what you said is largely agreeable. Enjoyed the read .

Death of Klebbitz was there to show us how crazy he is, and to show us that Klebbitz is not the biggest psychopath in GTA World, there are even bigger like Trevor. We dont know if Trevor actually killed Floyd. It might have been his wife who killed him and he then killed the wife.
LiGzz
The amount of hate directed towards Franklin on dees server is amazing, it's funny because he goes through arguably the most change of all the protags. Notice how everyone here likes Lamar cuz he portays stereotypes most gamers are comfortable with, then they flock to alpha-white-male trevor. I thought Wade was a well thought out character, especially on that drive with Trevor to LS (no spoiler). Lester was indeed one dimensional and boring though. Laurens078
Franklin is not really evolving cause you haven't seen his past story, I don't think he's only in it for the money (yes, he wants to get paid for almost everything, but who wouldn't?) He's just someone who's done with all the gang, living in the hood kinda stuff. I agree with you on Trevor, he's got some good moments and is entertaining but like you said, you can't really feel sorry for him.. Michael is a good character, though for me his story gets boring after a while and pretty much predictable. And I agree with you on the rest, I don't really care about Chop at this moment, thought he would have a bigger role and could go with Franklin on every mission as an extra help and not send him home when the mission starts. Wade, Lamar and Jimmy are good characters and fit their role.

Mathute87
I dont think R* ever wanted us to sympatize with Trevor, but I do find his character to be really interesting, specially his relationship with Michael. Franklin is the blandest of the three, but his interactions with Lamar are hilarous. Loved the game and loved the ending. Best GTA to date. f*ck the whining. Paradoxical
Kinda agree on most of your points here. I find Franklin's character very bland. I do however find Trevor the most interesting. Maybe it's because a lot about him was left unexplained which makes me curious.

Honestly could not have said this better myself. Absolutely amazingly written. Exactly how I felt throughout the game. I didn't like Trevor because he was just TOO over the top. I couldn't feel bad for him, ever. Michael? Easy to relate to, and throughout the story you see ACTUAL character development. His relationship with his family changes, and I feel like he's actually trying to change. The big bads (steve haines, etc.), as you said, were pretty poorly done. They were forgettable, one dimensional, stereotypical in many ways, and dull. They felt like the "We have to throw in corrupt cops who have the protags by the balls" guys that are a GTA staple by now. (U.L. paper, Francis Mcgrearie, the cop from San Andreas whose name I've unfortunately forgotten) I gotta say, towards the end, I was expecting the (SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT) Deathwish mission to go differently. I figured something would happen and they would fail to kill the baddies- but no. In fact, it was easy. To me, that's exactly how it should have been. It made them feel human, like once you get past their little guards they aren't even a problem. They are just guys in suits at that point who talk big. @Grove street heat, Racial profiling doesn't have anything to do with it. Franklin does not evolve over the story. He stays the same "I want to get money" guy that he was at the start. If racial profiling was a factor here, why is it that I find Lamar a much better character? Hell, I liked tanisha better than Franklin. Franklin's attitude and gameplay was fun, don't get me wrong. He wasn't exactly a "Bad" character, he just could have been improved I think. He does change over the story he is the up and comer for god sakes he goes from reposing cars to heists and moves out of his aunts how is that not advancement ? Betox190
If there was just one protagonist, i would have liked it to be franklin because, if you see it in this way, the main story is about him. You help Michael with his stuff, you help Trevor, you help Lester and you help Lamar. And the two endings would fit perfectly to him. Just think about it, it would be cool if there come DLCs (like TBOGT and TLAD) about just using one character, one for Franklin, one for Trevor and one for Michael with a longer story about them just so you can understand their reasons and their objectives.
