For me rockstar just wanted to make fun from all this hipster hate out there. My personal oppinion about "hipsters" is -im f*cking sick of this word and throwing up right away as I hear it. I think there is no hipster sub culture people with small brains must generalize like :this dude look diffrent and listen to tracks that i dont know- HIPSTER ! He listen to pop from the 80's HIPPPster! ohh he dress like rainbow he is a HIPSTER ! he dress all black HE IS A HIPSTER ! Is Trevor a hipster ? Do you belive that something like hipster sub culture exists ? Do you like to generalize people? Do you like Steak? I worked with a guy who called me a hipster all the time when I didn't agree with him on topics when in reality HE was a hardcore hipster. Everyone at the store knew he was too. Not only did he not like anything people considers popular he would lie about stuff he said he listened to or knew. It was funny because I would often make stuff up bands or rappers or dj's that I "discovered" and he would be like "OH YEA I HEARD THEM A COUPLE WEEKS AGO!!" Never did i tell him I was lying. The man makes a point to be different from others that is the basis of being a hipster. Of course there lies the question, is he being different for the sake of it, or is it genuine mental instability, i think it's a bit of both, throughout the game Trevor (with some pride) likes to boast how anti authority he is, fancying himself as an anarchist and a member of the punk subculture, but Michael wonderfully points out that what he's doing isn't all that different from what hipster kids do, hence why it enrages Trevor so much, that what he does, his attempts to be the chaotic wrench in a well oiled machine...might just be an illusion and he's just another circumstance of the machine just like everyone else. Yeah it's deep, but that's one of my favourite conversations and it was nice to see Michael show that wit and smarts that made him such a hotshot back in the day, instead of the usual fat, depressed loser.
