Do you think it was worth the long wait?

Think about it. November 2011 - that's when we first hear of Grand Theft Auto V. At the time, most of us thought the game would come out next year, after Max Payne 3's premiere. As we know, it wasn't so, and we had to wait till September 2013 to finally play this game. That's nearly two years of anticipation.

You remember those days, nights - the ones when you were so hyped you almost thrilled and sweated. Trailer countdowns, first pieces of informations, tons of crazy speculations, Game Informer reveal (which was the biggest issue in the history of this magazine). In short, the game became a religion for many out there. The anticipation became a journey for a blessing!

Two years forward, everyone got the game. Everyone has it, everyone plays it. The supposed miracle has arrived - or at least, that's how it was treated during those two years of wait. It's happening!

Now, ask yourself a question - does the game actually deliver you the fun you thought it could give you, back when you sat here on the forums, thrilling out of the excitement caused by those first informations, that sounded like a miracle back then?

Cause me? The game is absolutely great, I gotta tell you. It really is. But when I think about all those times when I couldn't stop thinking about it, I feel silly. Because the game turned out to be something that's... well, NOT LIVING UP TO THE HUGE HYPE. It was like, an illusion that this FIVE will be something almost life-saving I guess, but it's not so.

I've waited two damn years to learn that it's just a great game. But nothing more.

yes, but nothing can live up to the hype machine, but when i put it in i felt like the good ole days when i popped in VC or SA for the first time so yes it was worth it.

This. If you hyped yourself to much it's like asking to be deceived...

To me, 100% worth the wait.

A 5.5 year wait - no way. It isn't the best game of all time like I expected it to be. Maybe a 2.5 year wait would be worth this.

Yes. Well worth the wait... Only dumbasses who had REALLY high hopes for this game got disappointed. Its a game on the PS3 and 360. This is the best you're gonna get on this generation of consoles.

Overall, most definitely. There are some things that disappoint, but that's inevitable.

i waited to years to shoot up up n atom. two f*cking years. its not on. terrible, san andreas is still no#1. this game is GTA 4 with a few sh*t heists and an overrated trio of idiots as the protagonists. the missions are bland, the shooting is awful, the driving is drivel and the customizations options are few and far between. saints row beats the sh*t out of this and so does just cause 2.

yes, im joking

Hell yes. I understand why most people would say no though, they expected it to be some real life simulator where you could enterevery building you could see & other stuff like that.

I don't know, it's kind of a mixed bag for me. What some of you experienced for 2 years, was only 2 months for me as I didn't have any expectations until after the gameplay trailers due to my disappointment with 4.

Anyways, the story, missions, characters, and setting are simply amazing to me and in that aspect, the game more than lived up to the hype. However, there was so much potential that was left out in the single player free roam, that I can't put it above GTA: SA. I do think it's better than RDR though despite it not having some of the free roam features that RDR has.

I was about to bite your head off, until I clicked the spoiler tag.

Some of what you say is true though. They can make an Up-n-Atom advert, but not one interior. That's fries drenched in weak-sauce.

I agree.

Hell no it wasn't worth it at all. It's an insane game but not worth it so far.

  • 5 months later...

Yep, it was well worth the wait. Looking back, R* have had an amazing run of games since 2008: IV and EFLC, Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3 and V. And all released a year or two after each other.

It's a good game, but was not worth the wait that we had to endure.

What up with you bringing old topics back?

Anyways no its not worth the wait. The hyped killed the game.

Yes, could you imagine how bad it could be if they didn't delay it? The map would be half as big, graphics would be like gta 4. It's a good decision that they delayed it.

BrokenLizard

No, it was not worth the wait nor the 5 month postponement.

I would have been fine with them releasing the game early.

They're already showing us they can "fix" their mistakes through patches and updates.

Why was it postponed 5 months?

Considering that I think it's the best game of all time, yes.

No.

From the driving physics to the gutted storyline and mission count to the sloppy coding of AI, every facet of this game fails except for graphics and map.

The R* we once knew was dead. The R* we once knew to deliver masterpieces like IV, SA, VC, and III is dead. In it's place lies on a rotten beast, obsessed only with profit, who will gladly tear and destroy it's own vision to suit the casuals. IV was the last gasp of the R* we once knew, but the casuals tore it to pieces, they CHOKED it with their own hands. And now, with V, that being is dead. R* is dead, for we have killed it.

GTA as we knew it is done for. Just accept it. It's now casual-tier babbysh*t on par with COD.

I didn't know making it so you died in, like, 3 shots was making it for casuals.

I didn't know giving the helicopters turbulence was making it for casuals.

I didn't know making cops much harder was making it for casuals.

Man, how naive have I been? :miranda:

Thanks for missing the point.

But all you have to do is look at the excrable excuse for "physics" the cars have, the shortened mission count, the emphasis on explosions and WICKED RAD MISSIONS YO, every part of this game is meant for casuals who buy it and throw it away 6 months later.

No.

If it was 2 or 2.5 years instead of 5, it would be worth. But with the game as it is, 5 year is too much, and it didn't pay off.

And what's R* supposed to do, exactly? Just not listen to the consumer? That'll end greatly for them.

People complained about the driving in IV, so they change it.

Less than thirty f*cking perfect of people finished IV's campaign, so R* shortened it so people would actually play it. I mean, less than 30% of people finishing IV? That's ridiculously small!

People said IV missions were repetitive and boring, so R* made them better. Also, if you take into account the Strangers and Freaks (Which you should, because they're basically story missions outside of the story. IV could've greatly benefited by making some missions not part of the story line), it adds up to 129.

Like I said before, every part of this game isn't meant for casuals, as they have increased the difficulty of things that are essential to the game, like cops and health.
