Game freezes at loading story mode (PS3)

I've recently bought GTA V and I was hella excited! I've gone through the first mission (or the first part) and the game loads to a different story mode, but the game got stuck on the loading story mode and its driving me and my brother crazy. We cleared and re-installed the game, restarted the console, clearing the saved files, deleting some other files, the safe mode thingy, cleaned the disk. Still it is not working.. Would like to know the solution and any of you guys having this problem.

Yeah a lot of people are, there quite a few threads on it already. So far I haven't read anything that has worked on mine. Here is my situation. I'll post it from another thread.

I played the game for some hours, shut down my ps3 to do other things and some hours later this happens.

I start the game and it works fine to the point where the artworks flashes on the screen and in the bottom right corner it says "loading story mode". Im stuck there, can´t do anything - it´s just loading and loading.

What do i do?

This has become an issue for many... so far I haven't seen any way to fix it successfully for me at least. I am copying my post from a different thread on the things I have tried that so far haven't worked.

"I am having basically the same issue. I basically left the PS3 running for 3 days other than two reboots. I played until about 15% completion, and rebooted successfully into game. Then I played until ~36% completion, rebooted, loaded game, and then it stayed on "Loading story mode" for about an hour before I tried other options. Other than re-installing the game, all of options I have tried have been by accessing "Safe Mode" on the PS3. Instructions for Safe mode can be here.

http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-General/How-to-access-Playstation-3-SAFE-MODE/td-p/5812274

Here is what I have tried so far unsuccessfully:

Re-Installing game

Restoring Default Settings

Restoring File system

Rebuild Database

Finally tried Restoring the PS3 System (Back to Default, lose everything)

I have done all of these steps individually, and also all at the same time, with network settings disabled and also enabled. (A fix on another forum)

*I have manually backed up my saved game data on a flash drive and copied back to PS3 after every step and tried running the game again. I have an "Autosave" and a manual save that I had done within 5 minutes of each other before I rebooted, and both are will still hang on "Loading Story Mode". I also tried loading each one of the saves with the profile data, and that also was not successful. Loading a new game without my "saved game data" works, but I would obviously want to keep my game data and why I am trying to find a work-around...

My PS3 is a 250GB Slim and everything was installed from the GTA 5 disk.

Any other suggestions are welcome! Hopefully this can be resolved soon."

Is this because of Rockstar or my game/console?

Rockstar - there are enough people having issues with it to eliminate it from being everyone's PS3s going bad. It is definitely some type of glitch. So far I haven't found a workaround that has worked for me. I have a ticket open through Rockstar currently, and I will continue attempting to get it to load. I will update this thread if I find a work around or one is posted.

I get this problem aswell! It sucks how long I been waiting for this game and now it doesn't wana play for me! I played it once for a few hours fine, turnt off my ps3 come back to it later on and the picture on the loading screen didnt flick or make no sound! Other times ( 1 out of 20 attempts) I get into the game play for about 5 mins and it will freeze! Yes, I have the antique ps3 ( the fat one! ) but it will play any other game and I keep it well maintained and clean, please tell me someone knows how to fix this problem or maybe a member from rockstar will reply with answers?!? Or an update on the ps3 to fix this!

I have had this problem. I believe it has something to do with the file save becoming corrupted. The only way to fix it is to start from scratch. You should probably save often and not save over the same file over and over until this issue is fixed (if it ever is).

I just bought a pre-owned copy of GTA V from GameStop for my PS3, and I'm experiencing exactly the same problems that other people are describing - so far, after hours and hours of trying different solutions, I still have an unplayable game. I've cleaned the disk, which appears to be in very good condition.

The install took a really long time - beginning with a very slow installation of 15 patch updates (to 1.20), followed by a grinding, halting installation of the game data. Eventually the prologue mission began, but I could not progress to the first cut scene (the cut scene simply wouldn't trigger).

I deleted and reinstalled the game, and then loaded the game without the updates. Now I can play through the entirety of the prologue mission, but as soon as I move to the vehicle at the end of the mission, the game crashes to an endless loading screen.

Judging from the advice offered by other people, it appears that the cumulative patches have somehow broken the game for PS3 slims and fats. I've got a 260 Gb slim. Every other game I own (including some real memory and graphics hogs like the FarCry series, Skyrim, etc.) runs just fine.

I would love to get past the loading screen, but judging from all the many forums, YouTube help videos and comments, suggestions, and advice to people seeing the same problems that I'm seeing, it looks like this game just may be irretrievably broken.

Hm, you may have tried them already, but it's worth trying to play disconnected from the internet, clearing cache/doing a power cycle of your system, installing the game data to a USB, or trying a new disc.

Thanks very much for that suggestion - I've got a few older games that require a disconnect from the internet in order to work (because of discontinued servers, etc.). It makes sense that if there's something weird about the interaction between GTA Online and GTA V offline, the problem could be solved by going offline.

I've never been a particularly big fan of online play anyway - I bought the game for the single-player experience.

I'll let you know if this solves my problem.

Yeah. I have the same problem. I have also tried all the methods mentioned but nothing works. Some guy even said to pour cold water on the cd 🤣🤣🤣. Who would try that??? Id never do this!

Hey, I'm currently experiencing the same thing now. Any progress since then? And if you were able to fix this problem, the  how'd you do it?
