LukeyJB
I was just walking down the street, I walked across the road in front of a cop car and I immediately get a wanted level, so I run and they open f*cking season. KennethMBB
I think it adds great difficulty to the game, but I do sometimes believe that they give you a wanted level for no reason.
iamruby
Ive never got any sort of wanted level for no reason but I do think the cops are very very trigger happy. spamtackey
They kinda made the cops overly sensitive now. Stupid stuff like walking can get you wanted and at the same time they can detect you murder someone in the woods with no witnesses. It really gets annoying when stupid stuff that shouldn't get me wanted gives me a wanted level. Sometimes my wanted level will randomly jump from 1 start to 2 despite doing nothing else during the police chase. For example, I get out on foot and run away not shooting or hitting anyone else. I hide but get spotted. Whoops 2 stars! Also, what happened to the police arresting people? In GTA IV it was good fun to get other people in trouble and see them taken away or to provoke them into getting the police to shoot. Now they just open fire. If I used a silened weapon I can kill a couple of people no problem, especially with stealth. Heck, if I stealth, I can kill people in the city without getting a wanted level. Cyper
Well, as I said in Another thread: I was walking around a parking lot (as Michael) during night time somewhere in the desert. I see a gaurd with a flashlight roughly 6 meters away from me. The gaurd suddenly drops the flashlight and say something like ''You look suspicious''. 3 seconds later, what happens? He Draws his gun. I run. He start to shoot at me. Suddenly I have a two star wanted level. I did not bump into him. I wasn't even Close to him. I didn't damage any property. I didn't hurt anyone. I did absolutely nothing. As in GTA IV, you can also get a wanted level despite the fact that no one is around you. Getting a wanted level because you kill someone during a fistfight in the middle of nowhere is the reason to why I, since GTA IV, frequently use wanted level cheat. Ronrollin9434
The cops are too aggressive... they chase you at the same speed during a 5 star wanted level that they would at a 2 star wanted level.
Appleshampoo
Yeah after logging many hours in the game, I have to say the police need tweaked accordingly. Shooting a gun in the woods with no one around should't cause the police to show up. I also can't enjoy knocking someone out or shooting someone (with no one else around) without getting a star or two. I can't shoot the purple ballas and enjoy a fun shootout with them because the cops show up 10 seconds later and ruin it. It's not a problem with having a challenge, but the cops seem more of a hindrance than anything.
DymeDef
I was just walking down the street, I walked across the road in front of a cop car and I immediately get a wanted level, so I run and they open f*cking season. I bumped into one, same story. I looked at one, same story... is anyone else getting pissed with this? Let me explain the new wanted system for you, because it seems like you didn't catch it. Hope this will help you out, as the cops are way different in this game than in IV. Performing just about any criminal act, from fighting, shooting, pulling a gun out in the open (not even aiming, just having it in your hand), getting in a cops face, bumping into them (or them bumping into you, I know lame, but it is probably not easy to determine on the fly whos fault it was), or anything else that would get the citizens to call the cops on you including helping cops with a gun, use your fists if you help them(assault with a deadly weapon if you don't which is a star). At one star, the police will begin to make chase. They will shout at you to stop moving and to halt, so long as you are a decent length away you will remain at one star. Basically so long as the cop is not within a reasonable distance to you, you can keep running without worry of an escalation. The second you let the cops get close enough for them to consider themselves to be in a position to take control of the situation if you begin to run, it escalates to 2 stars. 2 stars they will shoot at you but not lethaly, usually hitting you in the legs and arm, sometimes in the body. You still have a chance to get away before sh*t gets hairy while on two stars, but it is far more difficult. If you want to get away, I recommend NOT firing a shot towards cops ever during the chase and I will explain below. At three stars, or when you shoot at a cop, in their direction is all they need for their life to feel threatened. This is when they really stop f*ckin around, and want your ass tagged and bagged. They begin actually using tactics and will actively flank you. I recommend moving constantly and never staying put for more than you absolutely have to from here on out. The helicopter is now being called in and if you can not lose them, you have to deal with it (I kill the pilot, but sometimes that is not an option). Know this, destroying two helicopters will bring you to 4 stars. I only kill the helicopter if I can not get away from it no matter what. Like if I am surrounded and there is not much hop of making it out and all I am doing is holding my ground for my last stand. After the 2 helicopters go down you get the swat team rolling in with new helicopters and they will zip line down on you, or onto roofs across, or above you, etc. Put it this way, at 4 stars, you likely are not going to open up much of a hole for yourself to get away, so the best time is right when you get 4 stars. Shooting the SWAT team or even near them while they zipline down is key. These guys are straight G's, and make the normal cops look like pussies. If you can't hit them on their way down that is fine, they will get rattled and lose their grip on the line and fall often killing them anyways. Like I said before, move move move move, if you haven't got in a car by now you probably should think about where you can get into a good car to ditch the cops. Once the second helicopters comes take out the two pilots together and you will create a large window for the helicopter pilots to show up giving you time to drive out of there. The cops are usually by this time all spread out and not near their cars giving you some precious time. I haven't got 5 stars, but I have got away for 4 a bunch of times now. It is f*cking hard though and usually a long ass drawn out shootout and then intense driving action. when you get out of sight of the cops, changing cars works so long as you aren't going really slow by the cops they won't notice you. I usually have one pistol and an smg silenced on every character so that I can ambush the cops when I can get myself around them. What is really cool, is they no longer just know where you are; they will search your last known location and expect you to be there if you moved. This really helps too with how aggressive and tactical they get as the stars get up there. And yes, you get a star or two for some weird things as well. Pretty lame, but I don't have trouble fighting people in the middle of nowhere or with no one around, so long as I don't shoot. JustRob
I don't think the cops are that difficult to deal with once you figure out their way of thinking. Basically, when the arrow that indicates your location on the radar is gray, that means you can safely ride past them and they'll never try to stop you. All you gotta do is make sure that nobody at the scene of the crime saw you enter the vehicle you're in. It's a walk in the park. Park up your car in an alley or behind a building where nobody can see it, casually walk over to a 24/7, put a gun on the clerk, take the cash. And if he plays hard, kill him and shoot the register, then take the cash. Run as fast as you can to where you left the car, hop in, and casually drive away. No long chases, no need to hide, no problemo.

ryuclan
I've never gotten a warning level without actually doing something but I do have this to say about the reduced police presences. I love it. Cops aren't EVERYWHERE and it feels a lot better. Last night I was playing the game and som ped was talking sh*t so I kicked his ass. Somebody called the cops and I ran away from the scene with police sirens blaring in the distance and the cops never even saw me. It was awesome BUT the cops are way too trigger happy. I got arrested on purpose once to see how it works (same as before) but it took three tries. The other two tries they shot me on sight.
iamruby
I just remembered hearing about pedestrians taking pictures of you doing criminal acts, maybe the reason for your wanted level increasing for nothing is down to the cops recognising you from pictures taken. twigs2001
I've had no such problem with the cops...however when i stand next to pedestrians they seem to just want to fight me, and when i defend myself ofcourse im the one who gets the wanted level, i thought this sh*t would be tweaked for GTA V. oddity-1991
I was playing yesterday and was out in the countryside when I witnessed a shootout between two cops and some criminals after they'd both crashed their cars. After the shootout there was only one guy keft standing which was a cop with a shotgun. I walked over to him and pressed > to speak to him. Trevor insulted him and he insulted me back. I insulted him again and I get a 1 star wanted level! He started running towards me to make an arrest so I ran. I automaticly got a 2 star wanted level just for running away and he started shooting at me with his shotgun! So I didn't get killed I shot the cop, and oh look: a 3 STAR WANTED LEVEL even though no one was around to see me put the cop down! This quickly climbed to a 4 star wanted level. I didn't last long after that and was killed in a hail of bullets surrounded by about 15 cops. I lost a load of money via hospital bills and it just pissed me off because what was a funny little verbal exchange was turned into this ridiculously difficult and tedious shootout with a massive number of cops who's main purpose seems to be to end whatever fun you're having in the game, forcing you to avoid them at all costs and just walk around aimlessly admiring the scenery and graphics instead, unless you want to die over and over that is. I dunno. I love this game, I love the story and the graphics and the side missions and the amazin characters but the superhuman cops, lack of interiors and lack of things to do are really starting to bug me. I thought this game would be like a massively improved San Andreas type game, but no. It's just a flashy mix of Red Dead, Max Pain 3 and GTA IV with little to do outside the story missions other than the boring "That guy stole my wallet/car" side missions. and a few other little quests. Yeah, and if you carjack the wrong person or get into a fight with anyone, you'll have 2-4 guys shooting at you with AKs and SMGs. Then a cop car that just happens to drive by stops and the cops start shooting at the Russians, and that starts a firefight between the two. Lmao. But I'm not too worried about it. I mean, if anyone has played Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven, they wouldn't complain too much about the cop AI in GTA V.
DymeDef
so let me get this straight Oddity. You are surprised that a police officer took offense to you insulting him twice? Then are surprised he opened fire when you began to not cooperate and ran? Then you were surprised that after he called in the callout that when you killed him no one should know? What? Lmao, the first thing an officer does when he is in pursuit is callout to his dispatch.
DwnShft2Xcelr8
Oddity, your post is ridiculously stupid. That sh*t would happen IRL, too. I don't know about actually shooting at you for running, but a cop would definitely chase someone for insulting them. Even once would draw a chase. Anyway, my problem with the cops in this game is that they're relentless. I guess GTA V is closer to real life than GTA IV, so I don't blame the aggressive pursuits, but sometimes they just get irritating as f*ck, especially since even at 1 star, the search for you is pretty long. Also, I've had people call the cops on me just for walking by. I did use the right stick to watch them, but my character's head didn't turn to them, yet some of the peds still felt threatened enough to call. It didn't make sense, but whatever. I'll accept it. I ran into a train tunnel to ditch a 5 star wanted level, shortly after I shook the cops I noticed a NOOSE guy walking back to the tunnel exit. I decided to sneak up behind him and perform a stealth kill and I automatically got three stars! He and I were the only ones in the tunnel, not only was I in the middle of nowhere but underground to boot. So its not like the cop had the time to call dispatch that he was being attacked, heck he barely had any time to turn his head around to see the attack coming. You get 3-stars for literally doing any harm to a cop this time, even if it's a stealth kill where you're barely noticed. That's not realistic, it's overly aggressive. Even that didn't happen in GTA IV, where you'd only get 3-stars for wounding or shooting an officer with a firearm. The wanted system in V needs tweaking, for real. Officer Ronson
Most of the times you get a 3-star wanted level for stealth-killing a Police Officer is because there are witness or Security Cameras nearby. Once I was able to knock out a cop in an alley and steal his car without ever drawing attention in the first place. rojovo74
A great place to shake the heat during 1-3, sometimes even 4 (if you're lucky) is in the flood control channels since MOST of the time the cops are above you while they're racing around trying to find you...this can be trickier if you've got an army of angry authorities after you, not to mention a heli or two as well, you can actually get trapped in one of the flood control channels because the cops sometimes will spawn in the channel which is more difficult since you basically have to stay mobile due to cops spawning in the channel and racing toward you from opposite ends. Lots of fun lol.

ashleyman
I like the on foot and in air mechanics. The speed of the cruisers is what gets me. I'm driving full speed in my entity down the freeway and a stock police cruiser is still able to catch up on me? Like that would ever happen in real life. A Standard Top end British Police vehicle will be a maximum BMW 5 series 3.0L Diesel (258BHP) with a chip upgrade and maybe a tiny bit of tweaking, giving it a 0-100 of 6.2 (5.0+ with the tuning) seconds and a top speed of 155MPH. Compare that with a Lamborghini Aventador (690BHP) and your looking at a 0-100 of 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 217MPH. Thats what really gets me annoyed is how they follow, gain and catch up and then have enough power to ram me. Aunty Fascist
