How do you give up when chased by cops?

I remember from GTA IV you could put your hands up and allow yourself to get busted as opposed to them gunning you down when you run away. I can't seem to figure out how to do it in this game. The police always just end up shooting at me.

If it is one star, you put away your weapon and face away from the police. They will come to you weapons drawn and arrest you.

you just stay still whether you are in a vehicle or on foot, you'll get busted but there isn't really an animation for it, just cops aiming at you.
