GTA IV PC Help

HI Guys,

I am new to this forum and new to GTA IV.

I have already put in a help request on the Rockstar site - before I post a fairly lengthy explanation of my problem here - am I in the right place for such a post ???

Thanks for your response. This is a cut'n'paste' of what I sent to Rockstar (unanswered as yet). Sorry its a bit long but at least its detailed -

 

Hi, I am trying to install GTA IV, on a Win 8x64 PC, from an original newly purchased retail disc. I am getting the error "Ordinal 5366 could not be located in the dynamic library . . . ." I can't get beyond this point. I believe I have read the installation instructions carefully, plus followed other's tips, suggestions, fixes etc but still NO GO !. Currently -

 

a) Registration has been authenticated.
b) I have tried Compatibility Settings - currently set to XP Service Pack 3
c) Run as Administrator
d) Recommended Patch 1.0.7.0 has been installed.
e) Windows Update is up to date, so Net Framework files are up to date ( i.e. beyond 3.5)

 

NOTE: I have no desire to play Online. In this case (according to Installation instructions) -

 

a) "Rockstar Games Social Club" only needs to be installed initially and product code activated (which has been done) and thereafter it is not needed and login not required for Offline play.
b) "Games for Windows Live" is not needed at all for offline play and has NOT been installed. ( However, contrary to instructions, I have seen suggestions that this should be installed to prevent the Ordinal 5366 error ??? )

 

Would be grateful if someone could suggest where to from here?
