Senor Salami
I was surprised to see after purchasing a car on the internet for each of the main characters and completely upgrading that only one was able to recover his vehicle at the pound. Home garages are always empty. Driveways always have the same automobile you start with and the other garage where you can store up to four autos is empty too. Then I noticed Rockstar had made a statement. http://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/200218557-Vehicles-disappearing-from-the-GTA-V-garage-or-losing-upgrades So I guess buying cars and upgrading is a big risk till they patch this...or not. If this is the case in GTA Online, I can see it being a big issue. Hopefully this will change soon. I'm sure this has been brought up at least a dozen times or so, but I couldn't find anything on a few threads here in GTAForums. I totally understand if this gets locked down. Edit: I did however find stolen cars available at the police pound. Jrkog
Thanks for posting. I have the same problem. I have blown $100K on mods, saved the car to the house garage and then I never see it again. I hope Rockstar adds the fix soon
GeneticallyDifferent
Yes stolen cars appear but customized rides don't.
biatch0
Joined just to add that I just ran into this problem as well. Had a couple of fully modded cars that I parked in my safe house garage and never took out (for fear of losing them)... then when I started up the game today, I walk outside Franklin's house and only the usual white car and green bike are there. The 2 cars that were in the garage disappeared along with all their fully modded GTA$ This hurt even more because I just brainfarted with Michael... taking out his fully modded jeep... and then forgetting about it before I did a mission. Completed mission... car gone Something really needs to be done about this especially with the GTA$ involved in modding the cars. It wasn't so annoying in GTA4 where no $ went into the actual vehicles.
Blahblahmeh
Loving the game overall....but cars/planes disappearing is pretty appalling and takes a lot of enjoyment out of the game. I flipped my lid when I lost my suped up Bugatti after my first drive (only found out today that one spawns in game).
cjspeed
In fairness, it's such a huge game there were bound to be a few bumps in the road. Just give R* some time and not only with they fix it, i'm sure they'll compensate us somehow. They want us to spend a lot of time on this game, they're not going to risk losing people to this. But, i have to say, it has happened to me. I had a very nice Bati 801 and an Obey 9F store in Franklin's house. I actually tried to get in there to replace the 9F with a really cool Futo i'd just customized, but it wouldn't let me in for some odd reason. Tried a hole bunch of things with no luck, but i could see the car and bike through the window. So i just left it, lost the Futo and carried on with my game. Later i came back to take the bike for a spin and they were both gone. Has anybody experienced it with anybody else, or is it just Franklin's crib this is happening at? sultangris
I lost one at trevors trailer in the sticks that was in the garage. seems to keep them you have to buy the extra garage building and save them in there, also make sure you claim your impounded cars. it only holds two and im not sure if it replaces with a new one or holds the first two, but look there if it disappears. originally I was like F the impound I aint paying nothin, ill steal another! but then i started modding them and want them back, lol! garages you buy only hold 4 and if its full and you park outside and enter on foot it seems to lose whatever car you drove there. annoying. Tbones981
Just a helpful tip if you buy Los santos customs your repair/upgrades are free although losing those cars sucks a goose but not the end of the world when it's free right?

Tbones981
There's ways to get around it being free in a sense for all three players if you have the time to waste and yes the drive is a pain especially when you fix your 800 k car then get ejected on the way back, but hey you're a millionaire you can afford it. Tosh1R
A couple of things I do to make sure I keep the cars I definitely want/dont lose any mods:1. If you spend good money on a car you want to keep, make sure you put it in your characters MAIN garage, not the one attached to your safe houses. These garages can hold about 8 cars or so and so far I havent had any disappear from these garages, only my safe house garages. 2. Ties in with point 1, if you spend a lot of money on a car its probably not a good idea to use it for any sort of mission which requires you to leave it or could jeopardise the car.. save it for fanging around, street racing etc. 3. If you cannot help yourself and must use your pride and joy for something risky I like to make a manual quick save, that way if anything goes pear shaped I can reload from the point of having the car and knowing it was a bad idea to use it in that situation 4. One car that you will definitely not lose (well AFAIK anyways, havent finished the game yet ) are the character vehicles. I have modified Franklins Buffalo and it has awesome performance and the mods havent disappeared either I've also modded cars and left them in the safe house garage to have them disappear and reappear later on in the game in the garage.. only when i have left it with no cars inside! it seems if you put another car in the garage the original one wont have room to "respawn" So there ya have it, hopefully you can get a few tips out of that to make things a little bit less frustrating when it comes do the car modification/saving side of things. Enjoy! Edited September 21, 2013 by Tosh1R
cjspeed
The garage each character gets that are in the city can only hold up to 4 cars, not 8, unfortunately. Looks like if you're serious about a particular car, stick it in the big garage and hope you don't take a liking to more than 4 for the moment. sultangris
yea mine only hold 4, and im halfway through the game and IM not now nor have I ever been a millionaire. except for the very start and my bitch wife and kid stole all that. my peak is about 400K since, and it goes fast if you buy property and weapons. GRRRR!
Tbones981
Well until you have the money I would just upgrade the cars each character has excluding Trevors' they all are plenty fast when fully modded out and never disappear plus respawn always at your place even if totaled out plus they keep the mods. Ok thats good to know (RE: garage storage numbers) so that makes a max of 12 definite saved cars between all 3 characters. Franklin definitely seems to have a lot of luck with his Vinewood safe house in magically retrieving cars that he has used or lost etc. and Michaels storage garage generally seems to have a myriad of random cars parked out the front of it that I have stolen and used at some point
jonesyy26
Well I haven't bought any cars or upgrades yet, but I guess hearing this news, I won't be for a while....trying to get more money, only have 112,

Bazzad
I have no idea how they didn't spot this during testing. It's one of the features they hyped and it doesn't even work. Edited September 21, 2013 by Bazzad
biatch0
Besides the cars vanishing... I just ran into a new related issue (new to me, but I've read about it already elsewhere). So after the 2 cars in Franklin's garage went missing, I decided to "replenish" my collection... and since I hadn't picked up the Bugatti yet... I went to pick it up, and fully kitted it out before heading back to the safehouse and parking it for "safekeeping". Went out on missions, roaming, various other nuisance, etc. and... when I get back to the safehouse... THE GARAGE DOOR ISN'T OPENING. *Trevor's voice* THIS... IS... DRIVING... ME... BATsh*t... CRAZY... I might have to take a break from the game until they fix this bug/bugs. It's a pretty big part of the game (that is new and didn't exist previously) and without it, GTA V is pretty much GTA IV with a different story. (Not literally but you get my point)
Gnocchi Flip Flops
They cannot work around? Why don't they get off their asses and redo this stupid flawed Impound and Saving cars system. Wow they promise something, screw it up, and then don't know if they can fix it?
robbo216
I just got robbed of a car. Upgraded it fully, decided I'd really like to keep it so I drove to a garage, purchased it (whilst sitting in the car) and it transported me into the garage on foot. I leave and the car is nowhere to be seen. So incredibly annoying.
Gefrituurd
In my experience you can save the cars in the character garages in the city where you can save 4 in them. Then if you take it out and leave them somewhere they get impounded and you have to get them and save them again in your garage for it not to dissapear. So you can lose your car once for impound, after that it dissapears. For helicopters and planes you can spawn them with the D-pad you have bought. Atleast for Trevor at Sandy Shore air strip. I haven't bought the Hangar for Franklin or another airfield for Michael yet, so i don't know for them. If you take it on non racing missions your saved cars the cars might dissapear because your characters live lifes when you are not playing. Sometimes Franklin parks old cars on the road at his house in the hills i haven't seen for a little while. Also the events of the mission matters what happens to your car. Why they not went for the Saints row style garage like the helicopter pad and hangar in this game using the D-pad is beyond me. Hopefully this will be better online, don't feel like buying a nice car and losing it when leaving it or have it blown up.

Even more annoying than how cars disappeared in Gran Turismo 2.
