Where are all the graphic whores at?

Sorry for the aggressive title but I figured it would help get the right people in here.

Before release there were alot of people discussing the legitimacy of the games graphics. Many people thought the game had to be running on PC to look that good, and others thought it looked like sh*t anyways.

Well now that the game is out and we all have seen it first hand I have a few questions.

  • Do the graphics feel the same as the gameplay videos?
  • How do they compare to the cinematic trailers
  • Are you satisfied with the graphics?

Personally, I think the game looks much better than I expected. It looks just as good as the gameplay trailers.

Its not as crisp as the cinematic trailers, especially not the first one, but I think most of us realized that there is an extra sheen added to the cinematic scenes.

Just for sh*ts and giggles I fired up GTA IV last night and WOW. I have two tv's in my living room and had the two games running side by side and its a huge upgrade IMO.

Thoughts?

I think it looks great. It runs pretty consistent as well, and I truly was blown away by that. I knew the game would look good, but I was skeptical about how smooth the frames would be.

I think it looks like the trailers we saw of actual in game footage and not the cinematic ones like you said. But not like the screenshots Rockstar put out.

For these consoles though? I'm very impressed with what they were able to pull off.

Imo its the best looking game of this size on consoles, though I don't have much experience with them outside of screenshots (pc gamer, but not going to hate on consoles for no reason). Yeah it's light years ahead of IV lol, it's crazy to think that they run on the same engine and hardware lol.

Yes, it is as good as the gameplay trailers, if not better. Everything from the crisp shadows, colorful palette, draw distance, character models (especially the protagonists) are way beyond even most linear games. They are actually closer to MP3, than RDR & that's mighty impressive.

This next comment will be controversial, but it will make the current gen version of Watch Dogs look like dog sh*t.

It has less AA than trailers, and less detail and AA than the modified screenshots of Rockstar. Other than that, very good for current-gen consoles.

I completely agree. The current gen trailer for WD looked wretched. And GTA V looks pretty damn close to next gen if you ask me. Much better than the current gen version of WD.

Another thing Im hugely impressed with is the performance. The framerate has been phenomenal for me. There are the occasional drops, but nothing as bad as GTA IV.

And text pop ins only happen once in a blue moon.

I think its easy to see how gorgeous the game is when you look at some of the snapmatic pictures. Here are a couple that I took, and if I saw these a year ago I would say there were cutscenes:

It is (graphically) not as good as the trailers. Why? The trailers dont show the low res wall textures / grass textures, Did I expect the graphics to be better? f*ck no its an open world game on 8 year old hardware. The game looks fine, it wont win any awards in the graphics department but its still decent. Imo LA Noire had superior graphics.

There are parts of GTA V that border on photo realism. It's almost disturbing to kill someone sometimes. Looks like a next gen game to me.

For hardware that is practically at the end of it's life cycle, I found it to be impressive at just what else they could squeeze out of it. I cannot even imagine what next-gen will bring.

the thing I have a problem with is the amount of cars/peds, and this is just me nitpicking.

the game is awesome -just started playing it- and I would love them to make the pc version soon, not to get it on pc, but so that the next gen gta V or GTAO be avilable soon. on next gen idk about graphics, I just want the big road blocks from the bumber to bmber traffic.

I think the graphics are just fine. There's things that I notice that don't look THAT great, but f*ck. It's an old ass system.

Driving at night reveals an amazing spectacle with all those little lights all over the city and the freakish draw distance. It screams next-gen to me.

Wow. What an insightful comment. It is truly amazing that you could even eat or get dressed by yourself. Elaborate a lil bit instead of just sayin "herpderp fail derp"

For 90% I've thought the graphics are great but every now and then I'd boot it up and it would look like dog sh*t n all jaggy. I just made a thread asking about it but nobodys answered. Maybe I might get a reason in here why the game is being so inconsistant on the visual front?

It's like it's slowly degrading. is that even possible?

Gnocchi Flip Flops

The game looks almost as good as the gameplay trailers. The only let down is the clouds. They looked better in the trailers in my opinion.

The graphics are nice, I just don't like a few textures but that's all.

Geralt of Rivia

The graphics are good, like the characters and cars. However, textures, like grass and buildings, are pretty bad. Plus, good luck seeing anything at a distance

As somebody important once said, it's better to keep quiet & be thought a fool, than open your mouth & remove all doubt.

Some elements are next gen looking & no other developer could've pulled off this game on current gen hardware.

@Juzt

It's probably your imagination. As good as any graphics are, in any game, the sheen soon wears off & you quickly take them for granted. That's why good graphics, do not make a good game.

In an open world game, good graphics certainly help. You spend more time looking at the same places & due to the nature of freeroam, you aren't whizzing by them & barely noticing your surroundings.
