  1. 1. How do you feel about GTA V's driving mechanics

    • Its great. A huge improvement of GTA IV
    • I like it despite it feeling more "arcady"
    • Indifferent
    • I dont like it but I can live with it
    • Its terrible. Big step back from GTA IV

I've been playing Driver San Francisco lately and the handling, top speed, damage and acceleration is amazing and the roads are full of traffic :) I don't understand how UBISOFT can do this on PS3 but R* can't on PS4 Oh my god! the cop chases are non stop action :)

I use to love GTA V but now it's boring all the cops do is teleport in front they can't chase at all :( lame!

Bring on Mafia III !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RIP GTA :(

Driver: San Francisco did not have to balance on-foot, flying, and boating into a seamless experience. The last two times they did try to do that, they failed at it miserably.

Mafia 3's driving physics look awful, don't know what trailers you've been watching.

"RIP GTA" lol... Ok bud.

Why don't we call it the San Andreas Anomaly? Everything else seems rather fine so it's either an anomaly or enchanted/put on spell

And then the opposite would be the State of Liberty Anomaly.

Both are extreme so R* needs to go inbetween in GTA 6. Period.

Or another, more rational theory: after 2008 scientists in Silicon Valley started to work on extremely technologically advanced tires which make cars do sharp turns (90° or sharper) at 35-55 mph, and the first prototype was finished in January 2011. In February it was tested in some Los Santos districts and Blaine County. They were extremely satisfied with the results so the first tires were released to public in May and a few months later, on 24th October 2011, the Government of San Andreas proclaims that all land vehicles with wheels, old and new, must have those tires (not sure if i put this right, i'm not good at politics and i don't understand it)

Bump.

I actually find it ironic when a lot of people go "While it's more arcady than IV's, at least it's not as arcady as in San Andreas", which shows that they really forgot how vehicles handled in GTA San Andreas. The former's handling was a huge improvement upon the one(s?) of GTA III and Vice City. A closer step towards some more realism, which was improved in IV as well. The only thing I wished GTA IV's handling have is the vehicle speeds of San Andreas. Vehicles in GTA V on the other hand handled very similar to how it worked back in GTA III and Vice City. And the bikes? They're the worst! I mean, I know that Niko falls too easily from them in GTA IV, but the handling itself was WAY better. At least in The Lost and Damned, Johnny doesn't fall as easily. GTA V on the other hand made them WAY too acrady, so more than Vice City (which still isn't that bad to be honest, especially for its time, and giving the fact that it was the first 3D GTA title to future bikes).

Helicopters and airplanes on the other hand handled... too realistic? I don't know, but all I know is that it doesn't feel as entertaining as it was in the previous titles. Anyway, it just feels out of place when compared to the handling of cars of bikes, giving the fact that they, in contrast to the air transport, handled too acrady.

I think it's good like in SA and VC, easy to handle and quick response, while in IV it feels more like slow paced, not to mention the fender lift when we're turning, even in slow speed, which is not realistic at all, but then again it's only my opinion, each people have different views/taste, but for me GTAV driving is good enough not to mention it's combined with plane control, bikes, shooting, walking, swimming, boat riding etc so i think GTA is the perfect game for me at this time,

And to make it worse i think they're bringing the handling flags to the new cars because of some people who keeps saying that the GTA IV mechanics are better, but for me it's not, i don't like the stiffness and the blur effect in IV it makes the driving feels really slow and laggy, that's why i only play that game once, unlike the older games which i played over and over again because i like the sticky glued cars in GTA V, i like the versatility of the driving mechanics in V i liked it because it's easy to control...

I enjoyed IV’s physics soooooo much more than V.

With IV, it’s easily noticeable that they took into consideration important things such as suspension travel, weight distribution, acceleration, braking, tire grip, elevation changes.

Driving fast really felt like a challenge and there was a limit to each car. And each car had higher or lower performance limits.

Exceeding those limits would have you more than likely losing control of your automobile.

Driving in IV had a learning curve just like *gasp* real life, lol.

V toned down all of the above mentioned concepts to the point that anyone can drive fast.

As much as I enjoy carving through the Vinewood hills in my cars, the driving physics don’t compare to GTA IV.

When GTA5 was released I was so excited to drive the with GTA4 mechanics through the Vinewood Hills. The cars in 5 pivot from the center, what you've described hits the nail on the head.

GTA5 and it's driving style caters to people who aren't legally allowed to drive yet. Or even buy the game itself. People that believe GTA5 to be more realistic in this department than GTA4 have never driven a car.

I used to believe that IV physics was superior, until I've played IV in 2019. It's not. The thing is, V went into different direction instead of fixing what's wrong in IV and that's a shame. But any of you who remember IV physics, just play the game today. There is a surprisingly big amount of common issues in the torque distribution and controller filtering between both games, despite the different general feel of the car. As of today, I don't think that IV is superior to V, but I would have liked to see the improvements over the handling model of IV instead of going to V directly. To a point, both are annoying in their own way.

I didn't really like the fishtailing of standard vehicles in GTA V, although some of the new vehicles introduced to GTA Online with the advanced handling flags made their steering feel slightly better, albeit those flags being annoying as hell when you're rushing someplace.

Despite the learning curve from GTA IV, it at least doesn't feel like you're sliding on butter when you're quickly turning a corner.

1) Because of Online.

2) Way to much trouble, money, power and work.

Well, because of online what? How hard can it be to just adjust the grip numbers to have the cars slide and behave much closer to real ones? Like I've suggested some while ago, the gameplay options should allow you to select between, let's say realistic drive model and arcade drive model when playing in single player and in multiplayer/online, the server options should be the ones that the clients would be forced to use. In terms of gameplay, many that I've talked to (friends who have bought both the IV and V) enjoy the more real handling that the cars had in GTA4 (by far the best in this area). As far as I've calculated (with the useful physics formulas), the cars in GTA 4 had the most realistic grip. For instance, I've tested in how many seconds a car stops from 100km/h (I have modified the handling file to set a car to that speed) to a standstill and although not exactly accurate, it had little error compared to reality for a 1.3 tons car with a tires friction coefficient of 0.8 (everyone can check wikipedia to see that most tires range between 0.8 to 1.0 as maximum friction coefficient on dry asphalt). Basically, if one wants to do the math, the decelerating G-load is exactly the friction coefficient value. If you'd set 0.5 as maximum friction coef for the tires, then when all the wheels are locked, the car would decelerate with 0.5Gs. I know that GTA producers didn't make this wonderful game with the idea of simulation in mind, but hey, times are changing. Wouldn't a realistic grip be more fun? It certainly would. I don't want to ruin the kids joy of having "cars on rails" if they want to, but not only kids enjoy this unique game!

Well, the car's physics model is more complex for V than IV indeed. I've also seen how many more numbers are entering the equations, but overall, in IV the cars grip was much more realistic and fun than the "glued to the ground" cars in V, even though the cars in V take into account more dynamics factors, but with that insane grip, everything went down instead of up!

So perhaps you say that you don't like realism! Better "slide on butter" if it is..., than have greater grip on snow in GTA V than you have on tarmac in GTA IV.

It’s more that GTA 4 has a more accurate representation of grip, weight, and suspension. GTA 5’s cars drive like Ridge Racer. Of course 4 has its own problems, particularly with cars bottoming out on manhole covers and how they all cut power when you start sliding [5 does this too] and the same speed cap 5 has, but overall it’s far more accurate to reality than 5. Drive an Infernus off road in both games, and still try and say 5 is better.
