Driving Debate

  1. 1. How do you feel about GTA V's driving mechanics

    • Its great. A huge improvement of GTA IV
    • I like it despite it feeling more "arcady"
    • Indifferent
    • I dont like it but I can live with it
    • Its terrible. Big step back from GTA IV

I (in my opinion) hated GTA 4's driving. It felt like the tires were coated in butter and the streets were made out of peeled bananas. Maybe they will, I just hope the driving isn't so cumbersome.

Someone never drove a car in real life, that's adorable!

Wait, so I can't take a corner at 80mph irl?

Even if you don't like the car handling in IV, the bike handling in V is a fooking joke compared to that in EFLC.

Like somebody said, to each their own. I just don't understand the cardboard physics of GTA V to the complex physics of GTA IV. If you really want a comparison, GTA V physics feel like Gran Turismo 3 (2001). GTA IV's physics feel like Forza 4 (2012). It's not that I hate GTA's physics, I just DO NOT like every car feeling the same. In GTA IV there was more attention that was focused in driving, that obviously a lot of you here can't really understand or see. You could tell a Dukes from a Schafter, and a Stallion from a Futo. In GTA V, every car is the same. If it's a sports car, it's got the generic sports car handling line. If it's a muscle car, it's got the default muscle line. If it's a Police car, generic Police line.

The prop thing does happen, you crash into any scenary object that atleast has some solidness to it at a low speed and your vehicle will bounce off like if it was afraid of touching the damn thing. One problem is that even if the damage is more consistent it also looks more cheesy for some reason, plus there is the annoying occurance that whenever this happens the broken glass sound effect will be more louder than any collision sound effects, even with walls.

Niko's jumping animation was also ugly as f*ck lol.

on topic: i don't think it's going to happen but would like to. because i loved driving in GTA IV. but roads in GTA V suit more to this driving though. it's not a bad driving it's just more need for speed ey. but better than nfs.

Hmmm, I never encountered this and if I did I don't remember it. I remember in Vice City if you tapped a curb, or a wall your car would look like it drove through an ice rink on top of a skateboard on top of a pie with a little army guy in the middle, but I spent most of my time running over people going down Bohan I guess :/

Possible, but i personally doubt it. Maybe they'll bring back TBoGT's driving (between IV's comical body roll and V's lack of suspension). But i like how cars react to explosion in IV (Far enough = dents, Close enough = flames, right on the explosion = instant fireball).

I don't understand how, maybe it's just too realistic

I don't think you've ever driven a car. I have been driving for 6 years and my car doesn't handle like a boat.

This is how I feel when I'm making a turn in GTA IV (with any car in the game)

lrmp_0904_16_z%2Btraffic_car_club%2Bwhit

This X a million. Perfect image to represent the ridiculously soft boat like suspension and on top of that ice roads type lack of traction. Just horrendously over exaggerated physics. It wasn't realistic just poor. V nailed it fore me.

That proves nothing. First of all, EVERY single car has body roll when pushed to the limit except supercars. Yes, IV was exaggerated but the rest of the physics were spot on. You could drive your entire life and never push your car to the limit because you're just going to work and stuff. Anyone who autocrosses will tell you that IV is FAR more realistic because they know how cars handle at the limit.

I feel that the people who have never driven are the people that say you've never driven on here.

Which is exactly why people mod GTA 4's driving physics to be similar to GTA 5.

No, in fact there are mods to make it more realistic, not to make an arcade sh*t like GTA V.

Nope not comparing it to any game. It's real life.

Did we all of a sudden get invaded by retarded V kiddies who can't drive for crap? Half the last page and most of this one is them spewing unsubstantiated BS, this topic was mostly fine until then.

Idiots gonna idiot. Why do people like V's braindead no-skill-required every-car-feels-the-same driving again? Smh.

Why are you surprised? This whole section is overruled by braindead no-skill-quantity-over-quality imbeciles. Nobody wants to start any valid or sensible arguments, all they do is overexaggerate and probably didn't even put any god damn effort into attempting to operate a vehicle in IV anyways. I mean just look at this dumbass quote:

"I have been driving for 6 years and my car doesn't handle like a boat."

He/she compares his car to a car in IV without even stating what type of car he drove, as if we're magically supposed to know. Don't post rubbishy BS like this unless you've got some great info to back it up. And then when you disagree with them they get butthurt and follow you around, harping on you about how you don't know how to accept any opinions other than your own.

No, not fan boys, but gta V cry babies. Notice how they all rush on a topic like this as soon as they hear news about changes to the handling.

Also, no one want the handling from IV, we want the handling from IV.1, at least from what I read.

The thing, what flaws did IV's handling have?

Sliiiiiiiiiightly too much body roll on some cars and the suspension sometimes acted wonky....that's about it. Oh and high-powered RWD cars didn't spin out upon accelerating.

What really could they improve on?

Most cars in IV are either comfort-oriented family vehicles or utility workhouses. They should handle like sh*t. Have you ever see a Rolls-Royce Ghost doing figure 8? It's posted by Motor Trend on YouTube, search it if you haven't watch it already. Nobody in real life take a Toyota Corolla or 80s Buick for track day. Some kids there just think every car should handle like supercars. Can't you just try to drive like how you would in real life? Oh I guess most of you kids don't even have a driver's license.

Seriously, If some of you here think your current vehicle in IV does not fit your chaotic driving style then try to find a Comet(you'll get one after Brucie's last mission), or a Turismo(there's always one parked out side Mikhail Faustin's house), they handle beautifully. Even GT cars like the Super GT have awesome handling.

GTA IV driving would be perfect on GTA V roads, because they're a lot wider, and you'd have a lot more room to avoid crashing into things (if you suck at driving that is). And off-roading... would have been a dream.

If they did, people would have probably complained even more. Don't think any GTA had that kind of thing anyway.

Yes I hate how almost every car and bike can go off-road like a Mercedes-Benz Unimog in V. This isn't just looks laughable but also makes off-roaders useless.
