Caligastia
Have these issues been addressed at all by R*? I hope there is a patch or something that resolves this. One more thing I neglected to mention....if your xbox is horizontal, elevate it with like a couple of game of dvd cases, allowing more ventilation, if its veritcal, try horizontal, maybe even puchase a "cooler unit" I feel like the older versions just can't handle it, after my second failure, I got 3 red lights, first time its happened to me and hasn't happened since, granted that was Tuesday night, but still logged some time in GTA V with no other issues, I forgot that I also elevated it. I hope this helps. When it happened to me....I freaked out.
Ross_M
Like many others, I too have registered to add myself to the list of those having freezing issues with GTAV. I own an Xbox 360 Elite, with a 120GB HDD with HDMI. Three years ago, I suffered the RROD, so the model I actually have is a refurbished one from Microsoft. I managed to get as far as the first 'heist' mission at the jewellery store before I encountered any problems. Halfway through the mission my game restarted and I was met with an alert message telling me that there was a problem with the storage device where the game data was saved. My HDD has 80GB left even with the GTA install. Initially, I deleted the install and re-installed it using my brother's install disc, thinking that perhaps that's what was causing the problem. I managed to then complete the jewellery heist mission, but upon going to Michael's house with Franklin to receive my 'cut', the game again restarted with the same alert message appearing. My next step was to clear my HDD cache and reduce my resolution down to 720p. I thought that had done the trick, as I was managing to do some of Trevor's missions. Got as far as the mission where you are requested to destroy the trailers of the biker gang. When I was driving to Los Santos in that mission with Trevor, the game restarted and the same alert message appeared. I then cleared my cache again, but this time the game restarted before the game had properly loaded. Tried again and I was able to free roam for a while. Thought I'd add this info to the forum. I seem to be able to add some weight with this to the possibility of it being a problem affecting refurb models from Microsoft. It seems that it doesn't matter whether your console is HDMI or not. Not sure if it was a matter of coincidence that when I dropped the resolution output of my console to 720p I was able to play for a couple of hours before restarting. Fingers crossed MS or Rockstar can help us out. Really don't fancy having to buy a new console purely to play this game.
darkangelism
Ross it sounds like you have a different issue, we are all hard freezing and can't bring up the guide or anything, your hard drive might be failing, try reinstalling to a usb stick. I have disc 1 on hard drive disk 2 on usb and saves on the cloud If you saves are on the cloud you have to manually load your game at the start just pause during the opening cut scene and choose load and change devices. I've changed it to horizontal and I've been playing the game no problem for about half an hour. I'm obviously still wary of it freezing but its better than it was. Before I changed it to horizontal i cleared the cache, turned the console off, removed all cables and left it for about 40 mins. Could work for someone else. Thanks for suggesting that Caligastia. P.s I also have my console elevated with a few games Edited September 20, 2013 by cmck123
KnackerWhacker
There is a hell of a lot of pseudo science in this thread, stand one one leg clearing the cache using the toes of your airborne foot on a blue controller while doing jazz hands. It's bullsh*t, people fooling themselves that x,y or z is helping it not freeze for a few minutes longer, but still freezing. There is no logic to half the suggestions. They better fix this soon. I tend to agree but the most important thing is that people keep pushing rockstar on this issue so they can't ignore it. There is a problem wIth the game that much is clear. Workarounds are good if they work but we need resolution.
Alpha86
This sounds crazy but try deleting the cache, turning the xbox off, leaving it off and unplugging the console, leave it off for 40 minutes, then try again. I had the same problem, did this, by accident really, and it worked, I have logged 12 hours in the game since with no issues. I hope this helps. Tried this, was able to play for about 45 minutes before it froze again. At this rate I might be able to beat the game in a couple of years... This guy has nailed it. I'd recommend that all posters of 'new' theories read the *whole* thread first. Thumb drives, cleared caches, low res, changed HDDs etc. All seem to have been tried without 100% success. The more that people post here, the more it seems that post RROD, pre HDMI units have a heat/processor problem with this game that any amount of tinkering/fiddling/finger-crossing isn't going to help. The only thing that has extended play time for me has been leaving the console completely off for a few hours. I *always* get half an hour minimum after that. This suggests a heat/processor problem. texasistheplace
update...I was actually able to get through the prologue missions today and had a little time to walk around and explore some of the map. I still froze, but I got in 45 mins of solid game play. I also live in Texas and we had a rather cool morning today...not sure if that had anything to do with it...maybe overheating is causing the problem? But after it froze, it repeatedly froze 5-10 mins each time I restarted. That 45 mins was BLISS...
sn3 parks 87
Has anyone actually been told by Rockstar there gonna be a patch for this yet? Knapton
Yet another one here. I have an older xbox with hdmi. Installed disk one on hard drive and 2 to usb. Once you hit the driving part of the bank heist it starts freezing for seconds at a time and keeps doing it. Also the graphics wont load. The roads dont load half the time an the game is just unplayable. Tried a new copy, tried different usb, re installed many times and still nothing. What a joke

KnackerWhacker
I don't think it's heat, as I said in my first post, I drilled about 100 holes above the processor and gpu to fit an externally powered fan attached to the case AND I even tried running the xbox outside my window, in about 6C (43F) night time temperatures here in Sweden. I also applied articsilver 5 thermal compound to the cpu and gpu. Didn't do diddly sh*t.
jemo eder
I had the same problem.. Freezing every 30 mins But try playing with your hdd removed from your xbox. Put your gta saves, disk 1 instalation and your gamer tag on a usb. I've played about 4 hours without any freezes.

treesnogger
I have my xbox constantly freezing whenever I want to access the cloud storage service of the rockstar social club taking a picture with the inbuilt app. Meaning, whenever I am connected to the internet with my xbox, make a photo on the snapmatic app and want to upload it, the xbox freezes. When I am not connected to the internet, I can take photos just fine. Does anyone else have the same problem?
MasterMayday
Long time since I was last on here but having similar issues and had an idea. So I have a Xbox 360 maybe 6 years old as well with hdmi an I get the freezing issues as well. Stumbled around the Internet for a while and came across this idea. It could be an overheating power adapter. Just looked at mine and full of dust so cleaned it and about to see what happens. Ill report in after testing for a while. Cheers!
