Another thing I found out after ghetto cooling my xbox was the dirty disc error while installing disc 2 went away and I was able to install it first try.

Can anyone please elaborate on what actually happens when it freezes, and how it freezes? Does it continue to play audio? Does the screen go black? Does it restart? Does the game display an error after (Such as "The game was restarted due to a problem with the storage device")?

For me the video would just freeze and the audio would stop. All I could do is manually turn off the console.

f*ck them! My 360 has been out of warranty for 4 years, if I want to add more cooling to fix their f*ck up I don't see how that hurts anyone except maybe keeps me from spending $100 to get another refurbished from Microsoft... greedy bastards. I've been paying for Xbox live for as long as I can remember, they get enough of my money.

I had my old ass 2006 xbox freezing a couple of times within 1 - 2 minutes (and you won't believe it but i had the red ring on the morning of the 17th, but luckily had a spare) The old one i use to go online. So anyway i did a quick fix on the red ring because i wanted to throw it out the window so i didn't care. I stopped the fan's and put a towel over it....ok green light is back. So i played the beginning of the game and had no trouble. Later with Franklin it got stuck a couple of times and with restarting after 4 times the beginning got stuck just like how my red ring started and after restarting again ....red ring. So now i took it apart and cleaned the inside, heated the whole board and put new Artic Silver #5 on it, i haven't got it stuck since !!BUT when i started playing again i took my internet cable out as someone was saying that could also be a problem. So after Oct 1 i will try with internet cable. But for now it has no issue's anymore (disc 2 not installed, not enough space)

If this came out on the PC, there would have been no overheating problems, and if they did exist, the community would have fixed them in a week, along with the host of other bugs related to the existing game.

It really is a shame, because it really is a fun game (so far) and the game looks great, but the jagged lines that exist EVERYWHERE kills my eyes.

I played saints row 4 on the PC with max settings and it was so much smoother.

The game being released on the PC would have had no effect on how it played on consoles. Your post seems like irrelevant whining, and this is *not* a thread about how GTA V should be on PC. Edited by Antares27

Seeing as this thread has devolved into finger-pointing and semantics, it's time I bow out. I'll keep an eye on here to see if I can spot any other patterns in regards to working solutions. I won't add gutting your console as a fix as that is far from ideal, but good luck to those that do it. If you've noticed any other common issues and possible fixes (cars not rotating for example) let me know and I'll add them to the "Known fixes" thread. Remember to keep sending those tickets to R* - http://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

I fixed my problem finally! Mine kept restarting and showing the 'Storage device error'. Might work for your freezing issues too, they seem to be similar.

Bought two 16GB USB's (Must be at least 16GB)
Plugged them in the Xbox and configured them to work (My USB Hub works on my Xbox)
Deleted all GTA V install data (Not the save file).
Moved the GTA V save file to the first USB.
Installed Disc 1's data to the first USB (Play the disc and select the first USB)
Installed Disc 2's data to the second USB (Insert the disc and press X and select Install and select second USB)
PLAY
Loading times are as much 3 times faster too, I'm not kidding. Rockstar advises against installing the second disc on the HDD, not the USB.

Just tried that method but didn't help, thanks for sharing though.

It'll be so f*cking stupid if Rockstar's gonna tell us to blow another 300 dollars on a new Xbox just for GTA V, when the game should work with ALL Xbox 360 consoles. WTfk?

I already did that. Bought a 250 gig new model. Problem still happening. Don't waste your time or money on it.

All you need is something small enough to fit in the vent holes and a torx screwdriver.(don't remember what size) but I got mine open without a torx. If you have a flathead that's small enough that will work. Look up a vid on youtube and it'll take you step by step. Be as gentle possible though because the outer cover is plastic. After you have it open move the disctray out of the way of the gpu (it's under the disctray and air needs to get to it) after this setup the fan to blow directly into the components. Make sure you try to do this on a cold console or it will probly freeze again. That's what happened to me. Go back a few pages on this thread and ppl posted pics of their ghetto fan setup.

Edit: DOING THIS VOIDS THE WARRANTY SO TAKE THAT INTO CONSIDERATION. nothing should go wrong and make the xbox unplayable unless you drop it or something, I had never tried this and didn't even know how until last night and mine works fine. Mine was already out of warranty though so it really didn't matter. And a lady at Microsoft told me to give this a try because the next option is to buy a new xbox. KEEP ALL THE SCREW TOGETHER AND MARK WITH A SHARPIE WHAT HOLES THE LONG ONES GO INTO! Or you will have a hell of a time putting it back together. It's really not as hard as it seems though.

I opened mine with torx screwdrivers. I'm using just a regular fan (you know, one of those things that prevent getting you all sweaty in summer) which is about 30cm away from my opened Xbox. It's really simple actually.

Might be 10cm too idk lol. But I'm getting an even better fan tomorrow, hope that will work out even better. Longest time I was able to play before a freeze was about an hour. However last time it only played for like 15 minutes before freezing again (during a cutscene...).

Is your heatsink actually hot when it freezes? Cause mine is only like, kinda warm. Not hot or anything.

The very base of my heatsink is very hot when it does this, But, not to where it should be shutdown hot.....Also, Going back to the game being at fault, not console. Because XBOX has its own overheat failsafe that just shuts your console down, and when you restart it gives you a message saying it shut down due overheat and gives you tips to fix it........So, its not even the xbox overheating to the point of hitting its own failsafe. It just freezes on the screen with 360 still running. That it odd.
