cmck123
Hello all once again. Just been off Xbox support and was talking to someone who was actually listening. It took a while to get him to understand what the problem was but when I mentioned this forum etc and many others having the same problem the conversation was on the right track. Just a few important points from the conversation: The agent from MS said that they have got word from Rockstar and they have said they are aware of the problem He said Rockstar are trying to fix the problem Rockstar have not yet finalised the resolution of the problem The best thing to do unfortunately is wait for the problem to be resolved and keep an eye on the Xbox and Rockstar support pages Microsoft are collating all affected accounts (keep contacting them and telling them about this problem by providing your Gamertag) The agent also said that Microsoft's "Advocacy team (highest support) is working closely with Rockstar to fix the issue He finished off by saying "you can also give assurance to every out there experiencing this issue that we're working on this." Although it doesn't fix the problem we are all having I just thought I would share this with everyone. The agent reiterated various times they are liaising with Rockstar to fix the problem. Fingers crossed MeatButcher and SurgeryByQ2KillU
SurgeryByQ2KillU
I bought a xbox 360 slim around 2010, equipped with a 250 gb hard drive. ive had serious problems like these as well. ive tried a few of these trouble shoot methods, theres one im going to try sometime this week when i can. but um my xbox cant be accused of being too old, unless im confused with whats considered old. my first encounter with this issue occurred in the intro gamplay, almost instantly when the explosion happened. i couldnt get passed this no many how many times i reinstalled it. so i asked for help from rockstar support and i was then able to make it a bit further, still inthe intro gameplay, rushing to the getaway vehicle and i drove a little bit and it restarted. so i restarted it again, and made it considerably compared to where i kept getting stuck at. i manage to complete the intro gameplay for franklin, and i was able to save the game. i have been able to free roam. i did the first mission and it restarted. i tried to complete again and was successful, but when i tried to do the mission for the lady marked with a question mark on the mini-map, it restarted 20 sec in or so. so i avoided that mission all together. i have been able to hold up a couple different corner stores, and travel to mount chiliad, and ride the cable car down and up. i then took a chance at the next mission for franklin, where you meet michael, i completed it and then i take control of michael and i have yet been able to go any further, with free roaming or the first mission for michael. so im going to try another trouble shoot method and see how that works for me, and ill try and post the outcome here. orig-tominator
Using Xbox without HDMI port (was replaced after RROD). Constant lockups/freezing 2 places, one in the first story at the bank, and dozens of times after starting to repo the motorcycle in the 2nd story). Tried installing on usb stick, did not help. Installed on my son's Black slim line newer XBox 360 and the game plays fine. this is clearly a game compatibility problem with the older white xbox 360's that don't have an hdmi port and not the disc's. It would be very easy for Rockstar to repro this. Edited September 23, 2013 by orig-tominator
Guchy2ndFloor
I went from being able to play 40 mins to an hour before a random freeze, to literally 6 mins 2008 xbox, no hdmi and little patience.

elgribbo
Registered just to post in this thread after basically having the identical problem as so many of you. I cannot ever make it to Franklins House after losing the cops. Sometimes it freezes during the bank robbery, sometimes during the car theft, or anywhere between. But I can't get to a save point so I have to start over every time and its maddening. I went through all the same steps...Installed the Install disc, played off disc 2..freezes.. Tried deleting it off the HDD, clearing system cache 3 times, reinstall. Freezes. Did same thing but then installed the Play disc to a 16GB Sandisk USB stick. Freezes. Installed the Install disc on one 16 USB stick and the play disc on a second USB stick. Freezes. I realize that people across multiple models and even PS3s are having issues, but for informational purposes - I have a original launch day 360 from 2005. It was sent in for RRoD repair in 2009. Upgraded to 120GB drive in 2011. Have the white single antenna wireless adapter attached. No issues on any other games at all from Skyrim to that old Kameo game that came with it. I talked to a buddy of mine who also has an original launch 360 and he has zero issues. Submitted a ticket to Rockstar but have yet to get a reply. Post #511 makes me feel a bit better, but it would be nice if Rockstar would publically post something about being aware of the issues. Rheumatic Chimpanzee
My 2007 360 red ringed 3 months ago and no fix would work. I got a 4gb slim and installed both discs on 32GB usb (cheap one, a Sandisk Cruzer- $19,99 at Walmart), been playing the whole week, I've played 5 hours straight Saturday through a terrible storm outside and it never froze once, also I don't get the popups they say you do when you install the play disc. I didn't read all the pages, but did anyone try installing both discs on a USB? Don't think it's a bad install because those would give you a unreadable disc error I believe. At least this is getting some media coverage now. We can't be that much of a minority. Also, Kotaku updated their article as per my message to the editor "One user said he contacted Xbox Live Support, which provided the following steps for addressing the issue. "It worked for me," he said, noting later his problems occurred on the later-model Xbox 360 Slim." Still not correcting the misleading title and content, and missing the fact the PS3 is having similar issues. EDIT: It's also worth noting my 360 has only been off for approximately six hours in the past 48+, still running smoothly, so I don't think this is an overheating issue as some have suggested. The game is broken, but we are not and it is very nice to see how we can work together and try and get a resolution to this aggravating problem. If you bought it at a chain-store such as GameStop, GAME, Walmart, Tesco, you can return it to a different store of the same franchise nearby, which should reduce the chance of you getting discs from the same batch. Worth a shot if you don't want to spend the extra money returning to R*. Edited September 23, 2013 by purplebunny
