i'm ok with the handling, but the damage is too much. it's nowhere near as satisfying to drive if you don't see the damage you SHOULD be doing. feels cheap.. especially since BeamNg is a thing now. how could you not love soft body physics?

that feel when you'll never total a car in GTA like this

With all due respect, but this is too much for GTAV! It might work for something like Burnout maybe, but GTA? no way!...All we basically want is an improvement in some areas of vehicle damage system in general, where it is especially weak! Like on an impact with other vehicle/obstacle, so it actually reflects visually on your car and such! It doesn't need to go THAT extreme, this is way too much!...

I feel like it needs to be made very clear the the particular vote is for the DAMAGE to the vehicles not how they handle, also that a YES vote is to INCREASE the damage done to the vehicles. The handling is fun the scratches etc on the vehicles look really great but they need to be weaker overall, more big dents etc. Clear as sh*t???

Anyone who says no is an idiot. If you really think it's 'fun' to be able to ram your car into a concrete wall over and over again for 5 minutes straight and still have a working car, you need to get your head examined. And yes, I've tested ramming cars into walls like that.

No, it's been designed so you can get around wiout having to change your car every five minutes.

If you drive in a sensible fashion it shouldn't matter anyway.

Not to mention the amount of processing power needed for such a damage model in such a large world.

But I do think that while the handling and damage models of cars in GTA V are fine the way they are, as the general consensus on this thread states, the results from high speed collisions don't have enough visual and mechanical damage as they should. It takes way too long to damage cars. The cars also have a more "plastic-y" and "toy-ish" feel than the vehicles of GTA IV, more like SR 4.

Oh, and inconsistency:

No, not at all. While it isn't as realistic and intense as IV's, I feel it's better because of how easy it would be to lose your amazingly awesome custom car. Think about it, if you couldn't drive, and had a car that was worth 500k from customizing it, would you want to completely destroy it in a matter of minutes?

Plus, the cops are so aggressive, and it's pretty easy to get a wanted level. When you are in a cop chase, the cops do everything they can to push you off the road by ramming you in the back, hitting you in the side, etc. If they were that aggressive in IV, your car would have been totaled in a couple of seconds.

The damage is way too weak, especially considering that you can INCREASE ARMOR on vehicles. It basically makes me not even want to purchase armor at all because it's not needed. Having cars that are more easily damaged, gets players to become more skilled at driving. I've rammed into another car at 60+ mph only to see NO damage on my Suburban. I understand that it can be annoying to have to constantly switch cars, but *RS* doesn't need to increase damage drastically.....like I said earlier, if you don't want to have to constantly switch cars, learn how to drive cars better.

Maybe if Rockstar put options under the "Settings" tab to switch car damage between "Low" "Medium" "High". Of course this would NOT work in online, unless the host decides on the damage level.....or just set it to a general "Medium" for all players by default.

Learn how to drive better. It makes the chase more intense if you know you have something to lose. If you get away, go repair.

I just think it needs a difficulty level.

Higher difficulty = more damage and less grip.

I enjoy it as it is, but I think by putting in something like that you'd keep most people completely happy.

yes, i sure hope they update or at least make an option to have additional damage. i was looking forward to more realistic damage gta 5 but so far have been sadly disappointed.

bottom line: damage models should have been enhanced as much the rest of the game world has in this edition. with a game centered around driving for a considerable amount of time, isnt it only fitting to have the best and latest damage models available. i think i see/cause at least 10 accidents on a way to any given mission (on average lol). these should be eye candy. right now they just aren't.

thanks!

I dont know what you guys are talking about damage. My cars get deformned to the point they arnt drivable. Its exactly like IV. They may initialy take more damagae but thats because you are traveling at much hight speeds than IV and you can traverse mountains.

The wheels do not stop moving or fall off. They should really. If a vehicle is 100% armored then less damage, but if I'm max speed and i hit a wall the front end should be history. The damage modeling in IV should be in V hands down.

I think the car damage is one of the more impressive aspects of traveling. The vehicle deteriorates as you drive worse. I like how the scratching works, too.

If you wish to f*ck up a vehicle, it takes a little bit more effort in V because of armor upgrades, reinforced bumpers, etc.

The only time that the car damage (or lack thereof) bothered me was during one of Franklin's repo missions. Tanya stated that "they got f*cked up", but the body of the vehicle I was towing had no apparent damage, unless you count a popped hood as such.

Also, I feel as if most of you don't understand that V can't have everything that IV did. V makes several improvements over IV, hence some of the things from IV being removed. There needs to be enough space to make such improvements.

If a tougher front end to my vehicle is the price of improved mechanics, fully customizable vehicles and flyable airplanes, I'm not one to start a petition for IV's damage engine.

Although I don't like the damage, I'm glad of how it is now. Since you can own cars now (even in story mode, sort of), they have value and you shouldn't have to abandon a car after hitting a taxi at 40mph and exploding like in IV.

However, with the trainer in IV it's so fun to keep spawning cars with infinite mass and smashing everything you see, haha

You can shoot out the gas tank, the gas leaks and you can quickly run out of petrol. Nothing has ever provided us with such detail before. Maybe this thread should be redefined as 'crash mechanics', because that's all people seem to talk about is how the car looks after a crash, and even so...

I feel as though everything on this topic is incredibly detailed in the game. The car damage is fine to me, you constantly see people posting Snapmatics to the social club with cars that no longer look like cars because of damage, you take a ride into the sticks, your car will get hella dirty. As above, there is unique damage mechanics specific to thing you do with weapons. It's crazy detail when you think about it.

I think the problem is people upgrading their armour mods fully and still expecting their cars to get royally screwed. The mechanics we have are far more developed than those in IV, that's a fact when taking everything into consideration.

I'll never forget when I first did the towtruck mission with Tonya and you answer a call to a car accident. When you pull up, she reacts in a way that the car should look totaled.

The car is positioned so it looks like it crashed into a street-lamp, but there's just a f*cking scratch and broken headlight.

In V you can kick your vehicle and produce a bigger dent than driving it into a wall. If you still think V's vehicle damage isn't screwed, than you're just blindly defending it.

@darkdayz

Except all those are usually caused by being hit by the train, or most likely from repeatedly crashing the car over time.

@mastershake616

Except "not including certain features to make room for new ones" doesn't apply to this issue. It's a simple edit of the handling.dat file's crash values. Stock cars in V are a lot tougher than they were in IV. Ridiculously tough.
