Lol @ "immersion" holy sh*t guys I have a real life, when I'm playing gta I want to play a video game... Not real life. Pretty sure none of us would do anything in real life that we do in gta.

Hey, do you go smashing your car into walls, or oncoming vehicles at high speed in your real life car? No? Then stfu. This isn't about real life. This is about what people find enjoyable. Whether it mimics how a car would react in real life doesn't matter. I too think car damage is ridiculous. I mean they have car armor available for purchase in pay n sprays but I haven't ever needed to buy single upgrade for armor because everything is as sturdy as a tank. If things started out as soft and damageable as 4 and as you bought armor upgrades they got to be more like they are now that would be great.

I dont know what you guys are talking about damage. My cars get deformned to the point they arnt drivable. Its exactly like IV. They may initialy take more damagae but thats because you are traveling at much hight speeds than IV and you can traverse mountains.

So you guys want to have the car undrivable every time you crash. That would get annoying.

If you think so, then just put some armor on it !!

The New Blueguy

I think it's fine. If it was like GTA IV, the price of cars and everything you can do with them would be absolutely pointless. I've been in some wrecks already with cars I just stole and didn't want to lose. Imagine if I'd have put upwards of 50K into a car and we had GTA IV damage? Oh lawd!

I'm actually not so surprised to see opinions halved...I've seen about just as much people who dislike damage physics as those who like it...

Yes its not surprisine me neither. There are two types of GTA players in my opinion: one who like realism, and the other who don't, or don't care about it being realistic.

I wouldn't pick the word "realism" here as an argument...The damage physics is obviously a bit well...i won't say broken, but at least unbalanced! Sometimes you'd get exploded for no reason and get massive damage and sometimes you barely end up being damaged at all after getting hit straight into the wall at full speed! Its not really "realism vs fun" kind of situation, its rather that someone is okay with flaw like that, so they don't see it needing a patch, but someone is up in arms, because they think its unacceptable and i honestly support second...

For the people still whining about the car damage...

Watch this video for about 15 seconds and chances are you'll stop bitching

You can just upgrade the armor, then no problem!

No, I just jumped a car off a mountain and hit a few trees, the damage is great.

Yes, i no there is damage, and is geart, when it happens, but the problem is not that there is no damage, the problem is, it just take too much to get damage ! :/

It did take me a while to get used to the game in general compared to GTA IV...expecually the driving and the whole machanics of in-game vehicles.

honestly i think it could be more like GTA IV.

I went head on into a wall really fast and my car wasnt even smashed, just the headlights were busted.

And on some cars not all, could use a little turning and handleing downgrade. some cars turn like there are tracks.

I'm nearing the end of the game now and I haven't had a single problem at all with the car damage, if anything, its much better. Wheels and panels come of and get bent in half for goodness sake.

Driving is good enough for me, wasn't really a fan of it when started playing but now as time goes past I'm started to enjoy it. Maybe it takes time for some people to eventually accept it I guess.

After playing for another day, I don't think the actual damage the car takes works well. I'm fine with the actual physics and physical damage that cars take. I love when my wheels get bent out of the way or my hood gets crushed from the force of a collision and I really love how you can get scratches on the side and top of the car now.

However, in GTA IV they had a good system where the car, when banged up enough, would break down and no longer start. This wasn't perfectly implemented, and you could have an entire engine crushed and still work fine, but it was a great way to deepen the car damage system. You could still damage the car to the point of exploding, but it gave you a warning with fire under the hood or coming out from near the gas tank / tires.

Now in GTA V this is pretty much completely gone. I have never busted a car up to the point of not starting, but rather it explodes now without any visible warning that I can tell, although I may have missed one. I don't understand why they would change this of all things. The car handling? The damage physics? I can definitely understand why they would want to improve upon those things, but they reworked how cars take damage in general and they did by removing the entire system and doing something different. Just seems like a lot more work for a worse result.

Before I got the game i was really worried because everyone said cars hardly took any impact damage...

But after playing it for well over 30 hours I have to say, wtf are those people talking about? there is a damage system, and its great, far superior to gta IV.

Vehicle becoming completly deformed from a minor crash is not realistic either, but even small crashes will scratch the paint or break a headlight.

And at medium speeds, you may not deform your car past recognition, but if you hit another car badly you could end up breaking the axle, or a slight deform might end up locking your wheel.

High speed crash without armor will damage your car, and you'll be lucky to not lock or break atleast one tire.

keep the handling, change the damage. You can get great damage at high speeds but if you're driving 50 mph or something, there is nothing. I have flipped a car going over a rock bump and my car was trashed when it was all said and done. I was going top speed.

The Notorious MOB

I voted yes but I honestly don't think they can unfortunately :(

Try going full speed, then switch to cinematic cam. Suddenly the car moves quite a bit slower. When in normal view its back to warp 9.

Maybe that's why ppl think the cars are like tanks, because they drive slower then they "feel".

I don't know if it's possible but they could create a patch that lets the player choose what type of damage he wants in the game (original, medium and heavy damage) something like that. Like this they keep people happy. Same for handling.

LOL now this is ridiculous! How the hell would you make optional something as core as this? I mean its not like difficulty setting or some minor thing we're talking about, its CORE mechanic! LOL Might as well let us choose how we want to walk and shoot! OMG Some people don't think with their head when posting something...

Big f*cking yes, everyone who doesn't want it are just f*cking noobs who have to learn how to use the breaks. It's your guys fault that the damage is so ridiculous as it is.

You're the f*cking idiot here. That's a great idea and would only make the people who want realistic damage happy. So you could still enjoy your gay arcady damage noob.
