Getting a Terrible Resolution

Question

Jimmy7685

My game looks BAD. ive made sure 480 720 1080i and 1080p resolutions are enabled on my playstation 3 but the game still looks so aliased and ugly, anything farther than a few car lengths ahead has REALLY jagged edges. I can hardly play it, so maddening. Is this game just ugly ?

edit: also I AM using HDMI on a 1080p capable PC Monitor

Here is what it looks like for me:

CQZMyHw.jpg

Not to rub salt in the wound but on my XBox 360 the games looks much better than this. My TV is 40" 1080p and in the settings I have it set to 1080p and I'm using a component lead.

Perhaps it's your TV's settings. Do you have the sharpness turned up? That setting should always be turned down to it's lowest setting. It artificially sharpens the picture and introduces unsightly artifacts. Turning sharpness down/off gives you a truer picture.

I finally took a video of how bad the shadows look.

Reduce your ingame brightness and they will dissapear, it only needs to be 1/4 bar full for it still to look quite bright

It's not the in game brightness. I've adjusted it every single way you can think of as well as changing all the image settings on my tv. Nothing has worked.

www.lightchan.com/gta-5-bad-textures-at-night/ Here is something that i found trying to solve those black/oily textures problem. I think that this is caused by bad instalation. Karma, did you instaled the play disc at first and then deleted it?

Nope. I never installed the play disc initially. Recently I bought a usb drive and installed the play disc on there to see if that had any effect but it didn't do anything.

Well, i instaled play disc at first thinking that it will enhance the overhaul presentation of the game. Then after i saw that it did jack sh*t, i deleted it and then i started noticing those olily textures. Then i reduced the brightness to zero and it helped a little but i could not see anything. I dont know does anyone here has the same problem as we do. Those jaggy lines would be somehow tolerable if that oily glitch wasnt so noticable.

I had the oily purple textures, I reduced the brightness in game, reinstalled disk 1 and installed disk 2 to flash drive, textures are now gone

Just got to your system settings and storage. Locate GTA V and delete everything that isn't a game save. Then boot up the game again with disc 1 and it will start the install process.

I tried that already and it didn't work but maybe I'll give it another shot.

I have no idea how, but my xbox now allows me to choose around 10 new resolutions in my display settings?

I now have it on

1920 × 1080

and it looks so much better - jaggies are gone!

I changed something in the settings but I don't know what

Yip, 1080p and 720p do not look as good as this resolution, I think you have to untick a box which says automatically detect tv setings or something.

Ill post up some before and after pictures later on

It is Display Discovery. And what kind of tv/monitor are you using? Because i have 27in Asus vs278qp and the highest resolution it allows me is 1680x1050 even trough my monitor is 1920x1080.

32 inch Bush TV mate ( heap of sh*t)

And yeah it was display discovery, if your all out of ideas, turn off display discovery and mess about with a few other resolutions.

Na not the jaggies thats just normal its lack of anti aliasing. Despite what people say about fixing the jaggies I dout its true. Its not the jaggies i'm worried about for me anyways because most if not all games on console have them.

Aswell as the bad pop-in issue I've also been getting a few more, like this issue with the map not loading properly, and this weird issue where the shadows/textures load in just before and after my character and follow him around you can see in the pic the shadow on the wall is clear and then fuzzy and moves when I move!

Edit* Heres a video of the shadow issue

Paradoxical

Hi. I've had GTA V since the release date for Xbox 360 and since then things have gotten progressively worse. Just would like to say, the first day I play everything was fine. No obvious jaggies, no blurriness, no pop-ins and no late rendering. Everything was crisp, until the 18th. I started to notice obvious pop-ins, though I was okay with it since they were quite a distance away.

Since then as I said, it has progressively become worse. It's totally ruining the game for me that I cannot even play it anymore. I'm talking about constant pop-ins, shadows rendering very late, objects seeming like LODs until you're extremely close to them, markings on roads not loading in properly, the distanced buildings and sky appearing very blurry and worst of all, jaggies everywhere, from the distance of the characters feet. To put it in perspective, the spoiler on a car is appears jagged. It was no way like this in the first week of playing, and I've tried so many so called solutions in order to try and fix it, such as:

Installing the play disk on a quality USB, installing the install data on a USB and playing from the play disk/installing the play disk on the HDD.

This is basically what my game looks like, maybe even worse:

Here is what it looks like for me:

CQZMyHw.jpg

You can obviously say "8 year old hardware" and sh*t like that, but I'm telling you R* wouldn't have released the game if they knew it'd become this bad.

I posted this in another one of the 100 or so topics concerning aliasing.

The TV settings are up to you. Experiment with the different picture modes (game, sports, vivid, whatever they have) and choose the one you like best. Connect your PS3 with an HDMI cable and make sure you set it to 1080p to get the best picture quality possible. That's about it. You don't need to worry so much about the exact TV settings- there's no one correct way to do it.

WRONG. Set PS3 to only display 720p, the game is only 720p and having it upscale to 1080p will further reduce image clarity. Im not sure when peopoe are going to f*cking realize that the game looks like this. Its on aging hardware. There is nothing magical your TV will do to reduce jaggies. Rockstar isnt going to release a patch that will all of a sudden reduce jaggies. It is what it is.

The game looks amazing CONSIDERING the hardware it is running on. Tweaking the settings on your TV will improve image quality slightly but it most certainly wont get rid of aliasing.

And honestly this forum is the last place you should be asking for TV settings since it seems most here are children or have absolutely no idea what they are talking about in regards to the issue.

In conclusion:

Force the PS3 to display in 720p only.

Enable full RGB if your tv supports it (im sure it does)

And finally, google your TV's model number + display settings and hopefully a forum like avsforums or somewhere similar with actual expertise will have some settings suggestions for you.

As for the shadow issue with it being blurry except for a box around your character I suspect its not a glitch but rather the limits of the console.

To be honest you seem to have no clue what your talking about either, There is a issue some people are getting, I thought the game may look like this but i have a friend whose game looks better then me, which is everything i need to know theres something wrong, The game doesnt look amazing considering the hardware its on.............GTA 4 looked better, Many games i've played on the ps3 looked better on my console, Also its people like you that instantly think your in the right and everyone else is wrong is the reason why issues like this are sometimes ignored, So you dont have a problem you dont need to come in the thread and derail it by saying "no-no everything's perfect".

Why is this forum the last place you should be asking about TV settings about GTA5? ...its GTA FORUMS? about GTA? this is the best place because your most likely going to find someone with a similar set up to yourself....

finally setting RGB settings to Limited is better then full, Clearly you have no clue what your talking about so i wont explain why.

The shadow issue is a glitch and is not a limit of the console because NOT everyone IS getting it..................

GTA 4 looked better

You must be smoking some good stuff GTA IV o PS3 was 1120×630 which is 630p and then it was upscaled to 720p. V runs 720p natively ....
