Getting a Terrible Resolution

Question

Jimmy7685

My game looks BAD. ive made sure 480 720 1080i and 1080p resolutions are enabled on my playstation 3 but the game still looks so aliased and ugly, anything farther than a few car lengths ahead has REALLY jagged edges. I can hardly play it, so maddening. Is this game just ugly ?

edit: also I AM using HDMI on a 1080p capable PC Monitor

Anyways after my tests, ill be playing on the old lcd tv. I could live with jaggies, but man the stuttering that would end up driving me insane. It seems like early 90s pc gaming when your pc was "just not good enough" and you get a slideshow... oh the good old days!

ahh i know what you mean with stuttering. i also have this with my new led tv.. also a new feature with this one.

back in the days with my lcd i never had this.

on my toshiba set there is some "active vision M" option that cleans this stuttering

Cant be arsed with fiddling about with the settings. I dont game on my LED telly so no problem there, I have my older tellys for that.

Just seen this on the net. Wish mine looked as good as this

I got in touch with the author of this image and he basicly said that this picture was taken using a capture card. He basicly captured the video to the PC. Edited the image and then took the screenshot.

Hence the super quality.

For those who are saying people are comparing the graphics to that of a PC.

The image and resolution quality on my mates setup. xbox 360 looks almost NEXT-GEN compared to the image im getting on my PS3.

it makes ZERO sense.

Thank you so much.

Yeah i know it probably won't help, and tbh i don't feel like spending 400 or so Euros on a new TV/monitor just to play gta v with acceptable graphics. XD

But hey, the closer we get to finding a solution the better.

Thanks once more friend.

Seems like "crappy" tvs are doing better. All the tech crap in the new ones are spoiling things.

I think this is right.

Between all the 3 monitors/tv i tried the game on, the one that actually looked better (even if by a small margin) was the weakest one.

And what makes you say this.... Most of us have tried on various tv`s. And it looks different on different tvs.

The "its not your tv's" is just as valid as "its your tv's"

Look at his user name.

Having said that - he may have a point. I think there are definitely certain TV's that are showing the game better than others, but ultimately, there are definite graphic issues with the game, it's just up to the individual user how noticeable they are.

In your opinion it's useless if I buy a new HDMI cable?

So i changed my TV setting to Sport and it really improved the quality of the graphs. Might not be as beautiful as the youtube videos but at least it is much better than GTA4 and i can play now.

I have a Toshiba 42 LCD. Xbox 360. HDMI. And have installed the game on the Xbox. I might try the USB solution as well.

I had really noticeable aliasing on 360 untill i just changed the resolution from the console settings to "optimal resolution" and it looks a thousand times better. You still know you're playing on old hardware, but it looks great none the less.

Just tried my PS3 version out on another tv and I got exactly the same frame drops at those specific points on the map, especially in the city. It is not the tv, it's not the disc, it is Rockstar creating a game that PS3 can't handle smooth and they know it!

anyone get squar lights ? when the change happens from character to character or if things are far off in the distance ? I watched tons of gameplay and other vids n never see this, im running it on 360 with a 46in HDMI hook up.. Might chance the tv settings to sport next time i play but I dont see how thats going to round the edges of the lights and most things in the game.. Other then the graphical issue the game is awesome.

I get it all the time, its weird but ive changed my TV settings from "Dynamic" to "Movie" mode and it seems to have helped with the color and edging of things. Still haven't tested it on the game yet ( girlfriend needs to go to work first =P )

Hmm this is very interesting. When I first played the game last night I thought to myself that it doesn't look much better than GTAIV, if at all. Then I started to notice how jagged everything looks, and how at high speed in cars it's difficult to really see anything well.

Now that I've read this thread I definitely am experiencing the same problem as the rest.

Sony 32" LCD (720p, circa 2007 model)

Xbox 360 Slim

GTAV Standard edition (Amazon purchase)

HDMI connection

Play disc not installed to hard drive

With the huge difference in driving dynamics and the disappointing graphics quality, I may just shelve this until the PC version is released.

EDIT: I'll try to snap some photos tonight with my DSLR.

Hi folks. Just so you know, I'm having exactly the same problem, and nothing helped me.

It's especially depressing since I've just bought my PS3 Super Slim for GTA V =( I'be been planning on playing the hell out of it on the weekend, but now the plans are ruined. So sad, I think we'll just have to wait for some solution, that will hopefully come from Rockstar as a patch or something.

I have one question though: are other games OK on your setup? Because I've tried Last Of Us yesterday and it was "edgy" too, though not as bad as GTA. So I'm thinking, is it just graphics on consoles (I'm PC gamer since long ago) or is it my TV (LG 32LN541U)?

PS Sorry for my English, I'm actually from Russia.

Add me to the list. Jagged edges everywhere, makes the game almost unplayable and gives me one hell of a headache.

Playing via a slim PS3, on a 37" LCD screen.

Anyone tried playing via the composite cable rather than HDMI?

Voodoo man

I started playing GTA5 on our Samsung 40" HDTV via HDMI and was sitting about 6ft away and although i am a high end pc gamer was actually really amazed how good it looked.

However got tired of having to stop everytime something came on TV that the girlfriend wanted to watch so thought not a prob ill connect it to my very good 24" PC monitor.

Connected it via HDMI/DVI and then spent the next few hours scratching head and playing with settings as it looked so poor while playing. As others have said the screen just looked jagged/flickering and a bit washed out and to be honest lighting effects just dont look any where near as good as it did on the 40" TV.

It just feels that the higher quality of monitor/TV being used shows up more of the problems with the games graphics and most importantly the furthur you are away from the screen hides the problems too.

However saying all that i still cant totally get out of my head why the difference is so vast.

any news folks?

I can add that the picture quality is crap through a computer monitor. Running it at the moment through HDMI in on my alienware laptop... sh*te is the word of choice.

spent a good hour last night looking at this again and still looks odd, i can get rid of the jagged lines but it means playing with hardley any colour.

I also updated my tv firmware and it made no difference, i'm not even going to try my main tv as i can't play on it with the family using the tv for well tv.

Good luck in your quest,

PS3 and digital download

I have older LG LCD 37" and the image looks wonderful, compared to the jaggies in IV, or what people have posted here. No problems with frame rate either.

TV has some pre-set modes, from which I have selected Game and tweaked the settings to my liking.

Using component cable. Sharpness set to 60/100. There's also something called edge enhancer which is on by default and can't be changed. Think it's because of component.

Gonna test with HDMI if could get even better image.

Seems like you are in a similar boat to me. My old LG is perfect.
