I assume you didnt play GTA 4 nor GTA 5

GTA 4 story tl;dr : Drive there shoot him/ them / blow this

GTA 5 story tl;dr : Do different thing in every mission which is long and complex

''Number of missions = story length'' is a wrong assumption.

I completed the IV story in like 26 hours, I'm currently not at 1/3rd of the missions in V with almost 11 hours played, so the story will take me around 33 hours.

How is the missions long? There is still

30

missions between these two!

in the guide it says 82 primary missions which means the heist (and some other primary stuff) is not counted in to the 69

Mission length seems to be longer, and there are a few which can vary wildly depending on who you play. I also think side missions have been beefed up considerably. Workin' my way through V so I am by no means an expert, but it appears to be around the same level of content in terms of player missions of good caliber.

I dont think you have used 11 hours to finish 1/3 of the main missions, which is

23

missions!

You can stop spoiling the number of missions.:p Having played through most of V's missions, they are on average longer and have better replay value, and that doesn't count the ability to replay missions for better scores or beefed up side missions for characters. If anything, V is superior to IV in the mission department in terms of mission content, variety, and quantity.

its 82 missions.

but you only do 69 for 1 playthrough cause you can decide between several options in 1 heist. ( loud or quiet for example )

so to play all 82 you have to replay the heists twice or 3 times with all the given options

and 69 is not short. RDR had 58 and it felt not short at all

Dude, don't you understand? The thirty missions could be only about simple "go to X and kill Y" and each of them would be like 5 minutes long. Do you prefer that?

Don't ever make that assumption that less missions = less story length.

The missions so far seem in depth instead of go there and shoot that guy. I'd rather 30 less missions so long they have some sort of variety to them (which GTA V has)

If you've been playing, you'll know this game gets into things far quicker. The slow micro-missions that you normally have to go through at the start don't exist, it throws you into the action far quicker than past GTA's. I've played it most the day, and there's no sign of this being a shorter game.

What is side missions?

Side missions are missions that are not essential for the story. In GTA IV you had stranger missions and some side missions but in terms of one-and-done content missions, the main story provided the overwhelming bulk. And it showed- mission variety blew and the game started off very slow.

In GTA V, side missions are more in depth and there a lot more of them, and the various assortment of mission-type activities means that while the story still provides the bulk, there is a *lot* of missions outside of it. In terms of quantity I'd put the numbers very close, with GTA V having the clear superiority in terms of quality, replayability, variety, and length.

Agreed. And even odd jobs like Taxi driving feel more "worth it" than in IV. I can spend ages just picking up fares, taking them where they want to go, then exploring that part of the map that I might not have been to otherwise, then hop back in the cab, call in another job and discover a new place.

There's always something happening that you can get involved in too, stoppping criminals, or helping them escape by shooting the police (the non-scripted random events).

Not to mention that this is GTA - with a bit of imagination you can set up your own "missions" if you like.. Rob a store & evade the cops, shoot a car on the freeway and chase it until you can kill the driver, Steal a plane from the airport and save it in your hangar etc.

If you stop playing a sandbox game after the story is complete, you may as well buy a linear shooter imo.

The 69 count is wrong. There are like 80 missions in total. In this instance, R* wanted to give the player their own choice and freedom. For a good example are the missions where one of Michaels family members call you to help them. You have the choice to say Yes or No. So thats why does missions that are optional are not counted. They should be, since they are still a part of the game and a part of the primary storyline. Btw, if you dont do the optional missions, you might not be able to get the 100% completion on the game.

John The Grudge

In GTA V all the missions that weren't central to the plot were listed seperately as Strangers and Freaks missions. In GTA IV they're all just bundled in together. So GTA V has more missions than GTA IV.

It took me less time to complete GTA 5 than it did 4, and the same time to finish GTA SA, +/- a few hours.

"Quality over quantity" people say, but I'll admit it was a decent game. Sure was short though, for a 5 year game.
