Murad96
When you got haters hating at this kind of rate, you know you're doing something right. R* doing it big. Fanboys of other franchises are jealous and want to try and downplay it as much as possible. People know with the release of V, sleeping dogs and Ghosts are going to flop. Wouldn't doubt these people are paid shills by these rival companies to turn some people off to the game in hopes they'll go out and buy something else. R* making other companies and fans dead desperate. I hope your games flop too because GTA already cashed in. Nothing you all can do to phase them now, keep hatin. You're retarded. godforgivesthelostdont
The magic is simply nostalgia. The more time goes by, the less people are impressed. GTA V is the best it could ever be, but if you have nostalgic memories with San Andreas and GTAIV, GTAV can't bring you back to your childhood or your innocence. QuietSundayLibrary
GTA IV was very dynamic with some incredible physics where anything could happen. After spending a day with GTA V I can tell you that magic is not there. The world may be larger but the game feels very rigid and less "free" if that makes any sense. I was hoping V would allure me for the next 5 years like IV did but I really dont see this happening. Pehaps R* could release an optional patch to fix some of this, but even then, they way LS is structured and built with objects I dont think it would help much. GTA Online sounds great but without IV's free form dynamics I dont see myself playing it over and over for the next few years. I'm fine going back to IV for my online fix, I just hope there are people to play left after this release. Don't want to be a downer, I was anticiapting V just as much as everone else was. I hope R* see these complaints and goes back to the pinnacle of the series that is IV. Or perhaps a PC or next gen port that revamps the engine more align with IV. Grand Theft Auto IV is in the past; though I agree with your assessment that there is a sheen of rigidity in terms of certain interactions within the world, the dynamic is far more evolved than that of GTA IV's, and the environment is far more dynamic, involving and "alive" than that of IV's. Niko's exploits in Liberty City began to grow tedious outside of the story-based missions, and if it wasn't for the online "Free Mode", I'd have given up on it years ago. Is GTA V flawed? Yes. Are many of these flaws "game-breaking"? It depends upon the player. However, is it sloppily and hastily thrown together and devoid of elements that make it worth your while? Heavens no. zootii
I, too, have played every GTA since III, and I have to say that V is a high point, if not the highest point. Honestly, haven't even seen Trevor except in the prologue, and I'm just enthralled with the possibilities, things to see and do, and people I might meet. V has the freedom of SA, the uniqueness of III, the spirit of VC, and more memorable characters than IV ever could hope to dream of having. You've got to be joking (and this must be your first GTA) to say that IV was more open. IV was hyper-realistic in feel, but not in "how you could fly off bikes and car damage". Have you ever seen an accident below 50 mph? I have and unless there's some extenuating circumstances, this is faaaaaar more accurate than IV. IV annoyed me in multiple ways and had a lot of hindering qualities whereas V was made to be FUN. If you're not having it, return your game, because you don't deserve this work of art. Let it belong to a kid who will appreciate his first real GTA and put a preorder on COD so I never have to see you again. Thanks.

GTA V is the best it could ever be, but if you have nostalgic memories with San Andreas and GTAIV, GTAV can't bring you back to your childhood or your innocence. This goes in hand with my theory of overexposure and redundancy within the open-world/sandbox genre of games. They haven't evolved beyond what they've been over the past ten years, and many are beginning to find them tedious and devoid of any real relevance in modernity. The potential is there, and GTA V is the most glaring example of this, though I feel the game is constricted by current-gen technology. The attachment to older games in this series (as well as those such as the "Saints Row" titles) is, as you stated, tied to nostalgia and emotional attachment to said franchises. They can't look beyond this attachment, and become stagnant in their ability to approach newer titles with an open mind.

Iroquois
I would totally disagree with the op. V has way better graphics, scenery and gameplay. Lets look at the things that were made better from IV: Driving physics: Understeer and oversteer has been emphasisized. Number of features Graphics Freedom "Oh--My-God" moments where R* surprises you with something you didnt expect to happen. This is like IV on steroids. So far, there are a couple things that irk me so far: Flying physics Height of bunny hop Ifruit exclusive to ios (whatever that is). Fear the game will continue to act like a tutorial till the end. Bottomline.... V is amazing 11/10. Edited September 17, 2013 by Iroquois Niick99

dewan2000
I dont know what you are trying to get at exactly OP...but when it comes to the city and having that whole "Dynamic" and alive feeling, GTA 5 does it soo much better. Maybe you just dont notice it? From police chasing random criminals, to others breaking in vehicles. One cool thing I noticed is a couple pulled up to the house and actually opened a garage and parked their car in there. There is all kinds of little things people overlook and dont notice that makes the city actually feel alive.

TitsMcghehey
IV was an uninspired, bland mess. V truly feels like something else and a return to old form. Trying to discredit games with vague terms like "magic", "soul" or "atmosphere" just shows that you have no arguments. Maybe you just have nostalgic feelings for IV, ever thought about that. As it stands right now, V is by far the best GTA there ever was.
