ed1234
Just wanted to add to the list. 40Gb PS3, quite old (2007/8) but works perfectly with all other games inc. all R* titles. Totally clean formatted disk. Story so far: - Installed ok, hung on first 'Loading Story Mode' - Restart, play through first mission, weird textures during intro credits, then hung - Restart, replay first mission, hangs when required to press the up button to draw up the phone (maybe 30 seconds into the first mission). Doesn't hang until up button pressed - can run around indefinitely with NPCs getting increasingly mad - Restart - same story - Restart - try and load map - freeze - Restart - try and press PS3 button - freeze. Each of these freezes leads to a total hang - PS3 completely unresponsive. Annoyingly, I have also bought the digital PSN copy (because it said I only needed 18Gb space, but actually you need 37+, which even on a formatted 40Gb PS3 you don't get). But I can't install that unless I buy a new HDD. All very frustrating. EDIT: Reset PS3 to factory settings, reload and so far so good. May be a coincidence, may not be. Interested in a status update - my situation is pretty identical to yours with the same console. My reformat/reset to factory only worked for a few hours though. Thinking of trying the digital PSN version if you end up getting that working versus the disk. Hate to keep throwing money at R* though for BS issues. Status update: played for about 3h last night, no problems. Just got home from work, loaded it up, and all fine - played for another hour or so without a hitch. Fingers crossed. Cheers friend, best of luck with the digital copy. I should also have said, the glitchy times were when my PSN wasn't logged in - as part of the factory reset I made sure that was all working again. No idea if it made a difference (I don't know if GTA5 likes to 'phone home' when it starts up, for example) but just thought I'd complete the story! Anyway, best of luck to everyone in this thread - let's hope R* release a patch for these issue soon.
jamiesonmundy
SEMI - SOLUTION I find a work through, I made a account to post this for others since I couldnt find any help or a work around. I dont know if its been posted yet but my game has been glitching on a few different missions. This was killing my progression through the game. What i do after i know a mission is glitchy a start this mission again and..... As soon as you can Fail it then Retry it As soon as you can Fail it then Retry it As soon as you can Fail it then Retry it Then you have the option to skip that part of mission and move to the next part of the mission. This method has been keeping me moving through the game. Its not bad it just skips the first part of the mission. Hope this helps!
dantheman1057
Bought the game spent forever clearing up space then I'm racin lamar bang freezes. Start it up again go a little farther freeze. So I go to my storage make more room for this husky ass game. Cleary cache. I get a little farther kill some mexicans freezes. I then go play some call of duty and have no problems. Could it be my console? My hardrive? The disc any help would go a long way I'm a casual gamer and not super familiar with alternate hardives and such

blupotato
Just thought I would share what happened to me and maybe it will shed light for someone else. Basically, I don't play many games. But I had to buy this one as I have played all of the gta games. So bought the game, install went fine. Made it through almost 40% of the game and then it started freezing and I would have to get up and manually shut down the system. Read where others tried to restore files and then reinstall the game. That didn't work for me and only made it worse. I backed up my saved game data to usb, but during the reinstall the game would not recognize any of my saved data. So this meant a total restart of the game. As I was restarting all over again, the freezes became more frequent until the lasers went out in the playstation. Granted the ps3 was 6 years old, but this game ended up killing it all together. Went and got a refurb 120g slim and almost made it to where I was and it froze up for the first time after 2 days of trying to play catch up. Shut it down and haven't turned it back on yet. But I will say if it won't play or the system is blown out I will have to put the excitement of playing this game out of my head. Don't know if I have the willpower to do all of that over again for a 3rd time. Just hope it was a glitch this go around, but it is extremely frustrating when it seems no one else has any problems at all. Point of all this is from experience if it is freezing up frequently, then your system may die soon. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but is has become all too familiar for me. Call Meee Kingz
No point in trying to fix the game at this point, getting a new disc because its obviously the problem
umzy212
I HAVE FOUND THE SOLUTION! I know this might suck, but you have to uninstall the beach bum update. After doing this my copy of the game started working again! This is a major issue that needs to be fixed. If you have not installed the beach bum update then sorry, but i cannot help . Hope this helped!
diesel47
It's outrageous how Rockstar still hasn't offered a solution to this problem, even after 3 months. This proves that Rockstar is only interested in getting people's money and nothing else matters to the company. Well, next time one of their games come to PC, I will make sure to download it on bittorrent and not pay a dime for it. That way, we'll be even.
