saintsrow
I think that was all Rockstar's fault to be honest. First of all they started teasing us with this game WAY too early, all the way back in 2011, just so they could sell some more copies of Max Payne. Not only that, but they delayed the game once internally and again from spring to fall. That kept a lot of people waiting and building anticipation. And on top of that, they did that thing where they released very little information about the game. They were so secretive about everything that people built up these expectations of what the game would be. They drove up the hype by mishandling the development and advertising process. This says it all. Way too early with no follow up. 2012 was hell -- thanks, Rockstar. Rockstar's incompetent and intentional "mystery marketing" and purposely holding back info, plus the long wait, let the community go crazy with expectation that Rockstar would fine-tune and include everything under the sun in GTAV, the ultimate mind-blowing climax of the series. chris
It's your own fault for over hyping the game, i'm as big a fan as anyone and i still hardly know anything about it, forced ignorance means whens i watched some gameplay vids yesterday i was f*cking blown away and can't wait to get my hands on it. saintsrow
Actually, I am going to have plenty of fun in GTAV. But I already hated Rockstar marketing for 2012, and now I hate them even more.
Cylan
I think pretty much every game of GTA V's caliber is overhyped, in a sense. It's the kind of game that pushes gaming forward and wows pretty much everyone except a minority you wouldn't see unless you were on a forum like this...or if they screw up tremendously, like Bioware did with Mass Effect 3's ending, and EVERYONE is taking a bite out of them. Kind of off topic, but one thing I've noticed with video game releases: If you're totally satisfied with the product, you're a sheep. If you're not satisfied and complain, you're 'spoiled and entitled'. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
[email protected]
i definitely overhyped it.... my expectations were so high, thinking this would be the game of games. i havent played it, but from the hours upon hours of gameplay ive watched, i dont think its going to live up to my expectations. thats not to say its bad, just that i put the bar too high You feel me bro! biggtafan88
i played the game for 10+ hours and i think that this game isn't overhyped....GTAV is two steps away from all the game relased inthis generation.... I't's really amazing, massive, full of think to do and to sarch/know... Edited September 16, 2013 by biggtafan88
ered
For Some people it is overhyped, people expect the game to have high-end PC graphics. Have amazing car handling etc. My friend got mad because the water is ugly I told him this isn't PS4 but just a PS3.
Moriarty1
When I found out way back when they finally announced V officially that it was heading back to Los Santos and the surrounding hills and countryside, I was disappointed because I had gotten used to just city. But then I thought about it, really thought about it, and I realized that returning to the setting of San Andreas would be interesting, especially in the HD era. Now, with the gameplay footage that's been leaked across the web (yes, I've watched it and I don't feel ashamed to say it), I can safely say that if I could travel back in time to discuss this with my younger self and he expressed the doubts, I would wallop him upside the head. I learned never to put a game on a pedestal after the new Mortal Kombat game and Mass Effect 3. I loved the story mode in the MK games like Deception, and when suddenly that was gone with MK VS DC, I was like 'screw that'. ME3, that's been said by many people and let us not speak of it. So I didn't put too much expectations on V like others seem to have. Sure, I wanted some of the stuff from RDR, like lassoing (though perhaps replace lasso with duct tape or zip-cuffs) in V, but I'm not gonna flip out and b**** because it's not in there. As for the driving: the early leaks didn't seem like veteran GTA gamers at all. A recent video, shared on this forum which showed 42 minutes of gameplay footage, showed someone with remarkable driving skill. I'd wager they';re a veteran GTA gamer used to how GTA vehicles are handled. I could be wrong, but I'd guess not. Good topic, OP. The game might have been overhyped, but not so much by R* and official news sources as by people on forums like this. Call be a dick or whatever. But that's the impression I've got. Which is why I have so rarely posted on this forum until recently, despite joining almost one year ago. In fact, tomorrow will be the one year anniversary of my joining the forums officially. Hmm, rather interesting, isn't it?
