GTA V. Damage Handling and YOU.

This is long. Tough sh*t.

Firstly
This is not a thread for arguing about your opinions concerning damage and handling. Please take this sh*t to any of the other countless threads dedicated to that topic.

Secondly
This is for the people who haven't played the game and those who have played it a little.

Thirdly
This is a thread to offer an alternative perspective on why you might be rushing to conclusions too soon.

Damage
So it seems to be a fact that cars in GTA V will take a lot more damage than in GTA IV. You could see this as a step back but consider the following: Cops are much more aggressive and will try to ram you off the road; San Andreas is huge and a lot of it is empty countryside.

For all we know, the missions might be much more difficult. Imagine you are in a mission and as part of said mission you receive 4 stars. Your objective is to drive with a passenger through miles and miles of open countryside, maybe off-road with no traffic and the cops are repeatedly ramming you. This scenario might be impossible with a GTA IV car, if not extremely infuriating.

This doesn't necessarily mean the game the game will be easier or dumbed down, it could just be that they've ramped up the missions/cops so much that you really have no choice. While moving away from realism, it could provide a platform for some amazingly over the top, on the edge of your seat action. It might even be more of a challenge.

Handling
This one is much more subjective. There is no right answer. More realism might please some people, but it will alienate others and vice versa. This is a fact. Deal with it. Unfortunately, if the driving isn't quite to your liking, you'll probably be stuck. For Rockstar to change it with a patch, they would have to spend precious developers hours on a game that has already sold and earned them their money. They will much rather set those developers on DLC so that they can make more money. That is their job.
The only reason for them to give the handling a major overhaul is if people refuse to to buy it and it effects sales. Petitions won't work, boycotts will, vote with your money.

But, consider this: Yes, you can get an idea about how the game handles by watching gameplay videos. But it is called HANDLING, to say you can judge the handling without actually handling it is a little silly. It is called Handling for a reason. This isn't a coincidence. Handling.

In summary
I am refusing to judge this game until I get my hands on it and play it. There is a possibility that Rockstar, though I have faith in them, will disappoint me. If this happens I will not be buying their next game on release, I will be waiting until I can buy a cheap secondhand copy if at all. They won't be getting my money.
I urge you to at least try to play the game with an open mind. If all you do is set yourself up for disappointment you will likely be... Disappointed.

I'm happy to hear peoples opinions on my thoughts and I encourage you to debate away. But please, at least attempt to remain at least somewhat civil and try to stay on topic, we have enough threads for mindless arguments already.

tl;dr
Nope, either read the text or throw your memes at me. I welcome them and encourage people to post them if they feel the need. That sh*t is funny. I just ask that everyone else ignore them and stay on topic.

Edit.

Yes, I missed a comma in the title. Whoops.

If only more people were down to earth like this. Nice out look OP.

I'll reserve all judgement until I play the game. And by play the game, I do not mean pop the disc in and drive around causing chaos for a couple hours.

Great post.

I've been defending the handling and damage so far, but for all I know, it could be a pile of arse, so I'll wait until I actually play it.

If it does turn out to be a pile of arse, then oh well, there's so much more to do anyway.

You stupid mother f*ckers have posted so many threads about the driving and car damage that it is not even funny. Your f*cking opinions don't matter. They are sh*t anyway. Just wait until you get the f*cking game and stop talking about this sh*t. Holy f*ck...

Handling is something I can easily get over, and even the damage cars can TAKE is something I can get over, but that doesn't necessarily have to mean cars which have been in a 50 mph crash should be able to walk away with just a scratch, or that vehicle deformation should be completely devoid at times. Take this for example

[CHEAT CODE SPOILERS], the crash from 33 seconds onwards, there is not even a scratch after a vehicle was launched into the air and slammed into an SUV, the SUV didn't even have a scratch. That is where my biggest problem is. If your car goes through hell - even if they decide to ramp up the damage tolerance a lot, I expect that in a believable world with so many realistic elements - your vehicle should look like it's been through hell, and most of the time in this game I don't find that they really do. And when they do, it's incredibly inconsistent.

At least this is actually positive for once.

Good post OP. :^:

I like it. I dont' understand the people complaining about damage. It's like, "I only want my car to jump 200 feet and not take any damage. 300 feet is unrealistic crap".

After watching videos, specifically police chases, I have to agree with you 100% on the damage. 100%.

Same with the handling. I saw a buccaneer slide around a city corner very similar to IV, some of the cars turn a little quick big F'in deal, it's a GAME.

Thanks guys, I've enjoyed every GTA since the first one and I trust Rockstar at the moment. I expect that Rockstar have something up their sleeve that I'm not seeing and I have a feeling it is going to be f*cking amazing.

It's good to see other who feel the same. KEEP THE HYPE ALIVE.

You must have missed the part where I asked you to not turn this into another pointless argument. I'm asking you to actually think about why Rockstar have done this and talk abut what they could have up their sleeve.

Please refrain from posting leaks. Try posting something imaginative.

:panic::lol::lol::panic::panic::lol::lol: we finally have a winner !!! :panic::panic::panic::lol::lol::lol:

So if the next game strips out everything and you whine about it, this is a legitimate excuse? Oh, it's a game so it's alright if it sucks.

As I've said, debate away about my ideas, not the actual physics. Why would they increase the amount of damage a car could receive? What have they got in store for us? Because I honestly do not believe they have spent 5 years making a terrible game.

I can't wait to see how the cops react to me and even better is the story. I love the way GTA satires modern American life and the criminal underworld. I'm expecting a lot of epic missions and plot twists and I'm wondering how Rockstar how used this massive new world to blow me away.

I have a feeling that I'm going to find the driving perfectly fine, after all my preferences and playstyle seem to differ from the majority of GTA Players here...

I've been playing way too much Forza recently, I hope I can adjust to the physics.

If you would like GTA 4's handling and physics (but refined and perfected) then there is hope

Thanks for the post OP. My views have actually changed thanks to your thoughtful post. I will say I can't judge until I play but I would've been a fan at least if more cosmetic damage.

i'm not like them whining fanboys that will go off at you, but the damage is better than GTA IV it takes more force to wreck your car like IV though, and personally I like the driving.

Doesn't seem like it to me. It sounds like tons of people complained about IV. While a lot of it has changed for the better, like bringing back more customization and variety, things like driving have been dumbed down. Either way, complaining about flaws in games is hardly whining. People have a right to bring up flaws in products they'd spent money on. If nobody ever received criticism at all, society would not be anywhere close to where it is right now. Everyone would be content with their sh*tty creations.

I'm glad to hear it.

Cars being able to take more damage makes me think that we are going to be forced to drive them hard. I can imagine the missions putting us in some amazingly dangerous situations and if you think about the reduced health, more aggressive AI and refined saving, I would imagine that we are probably going to die a lot more than usual.

Missions in the previous GTAs could never be that hard because you often had to restock your weapons and travel around to retry the mission. Now that we keep our guns and have a checkpoint saving system, the game can throw a lot more sh*t at us. To me, this is good.

Sure there will be obvious flaws, but there always have been. GTA has always been imperfect, but its story and environment have always been the two biggest features to me, I have no doubt that both of these things will live up to my expectations.

Yes they have a right to voice their opinion good or bad. But there is a right way and a wrong way. What we have going on here is the wrong way.

I'll give a good example of the right way:

I have a PS3, I heard Saints Row was a fun game. When Saints Row 2 came out I got it. Played the crap out of it, it was and still is a good game. Based on that experience I bought The Third. Played through the story, and put it away, for me it was blah.

I DID NOT buy 4. I voiced my opinion with what really matters, my wallet.

Another example, Hitman. I have Contracts, blood money, Silent assassin(?) Not sure about that title ATM), they made changes to Absolution, so I waited for reviews.(from players, not game sites.) Decided it wasn't for me, didn't complain, I just didn't buy it.

And games are supposed to be fun and entertaining. I don't find the entertainment in indestructible vehicles.
