Matt21
Please let this be a troll post. Please. hahaha i'm English and I understand Franklin you do know what subtitles are for right, and Btw don't be racist I didn't think the OP was being rascist. He was making a point that dialectial speech can be difficult to understand. In some cultures that's deliberate, youth and gang culture are excellent examples of that. There are plenty of places in Britain where the local dialectial accent can't be understood by people from the same country. It doesn't make you a rascist if you can't tell what someone's saying. OP, in fairness I think GTA has always been smart enough to find the right line between hardcore dialect and accessible dialogue, you shouldn't worry. I know he isn't but someone might take it the wrong way anyone who takes it the wrong way would be a politically correct stupid f*ck

Actually racism wasn't my main worry - the fact that the OP is worried the character might sound like where he's supposed to be from was my main point. If I played GTA Leeds, I wouldn't worry that the characters went around saying "Ey up yoth, lt's roll down t'grayhound track and pick up a couple lasses" I'm all for authenticity The game is set in LA, Franklin shouldn't sound like prince charles. Why did the OP refer to the Black character? After two years and the OP can't even remember the guy's name? Honestly, I don't think he is being racist. I grew up in London, in an area where whites were the minority, I have a diverse group of friends and I've always been comfortable around other races (I understood little Jacob without subs). But I'm living in the Midlands at the moment in an area that is over 95% white and I see this kind of attitude every day. It isn't fuled by hatred, it's just a lack of understanding. The people I deal with just dont know how to deal with people of colour, yes, that is often what people here call them. They don't know how to act around them and they get nervous as hell around them. It's actually quite funny in some ways, but mostly kind of pathetic. ColdHearted
Hi, I'm a English person and really looking forward to GTA V. However one thing I'm worried about is when I play the black character will I be able to understand all the gangster talk? I find it really irritating the way SOME black people talk and I worry it might put me off the game. I also hate excessive use of the N word. I noticed some of it in the gameplay trailer and found it annoying. Finally, I also hate rap music. Can we skip it? Hey, white boy aint this the toughest dude on your lil island bruh ? Why dont you get from behind the computer and go talk sh*t to a real niggaz face like your boy did, fa**ot. BLACK POWER BOY
Skeloton
lol, I can understand Franklin, I watched a vid that showed a bit of some mission to tow a car and what not. I could understand him....but it annoyed the f*ck out of me. Im just not into that gangsta sh*t, I guess.

Why did the OP refer to the Black character? After two years and the OP can't even remember the guy's name? Re-reading the OP I can see we won't agree on whether the OP was trolling or not. You clearly feel he was, perhaps you just felt a strong reaction to what the OP said? Fair enough, but engage him! The context in which he said "the black character" was perfectly acceptable in my opinion and went to the intention of the overall post. Discussing dialects or language of ethnic groups who are perceived to be victimised (a legitimate perception) is often difficult as peoples' Racism Radar starts to overload. In this case I thought the OP trod the fine line very well and asked a reasonable question very sensibly. Only my opinion, obviously.

TheTaterTot
Oh boy... I understand you're not trying to be racist and just happen to dislike rap. I just hope others do as well. Anyway, there's subtitles you can turn on, like I did in GTAIV when I was trying to understand what Lil Jacob was saying (He's jamaican). And you can change radio stations. Funnily enough, both Real Badman and Little Jacob are voiced by black British voice actors (Lots of Jamaicans and Jamaican influence in the UK irl). Oh and this is a troll post. I'm British and the majority of us can understand Americans fine. You speak clearer than most Brits do. Even the the thugs and rappers. Edit: Oh and P.S, more British boxers have beaten American boxers than vice versa. Edited September 15, 2013 by TheTaterTot

I understand your english and all of that but the african american slang is not that hard to figure out, plus the game supports subtitles. unlike Little jacob with heavy ass rastafarian accent and slang which even I could barely understand. Franklyn and Lamar are pretty straight forward in how they talk and interact with each other. OMG your english. your telling me youve never heard an american of any kind over there talk and understand them fully? WTF. And i admit i watch bbc america y'all f*cking accents are crazy!
