_Tacts
Thought I'd share a couple of pictures of what the fire appliances look like here in Melbourne, Australia. The first photo is of the 'new' Scania Teleboom aerial appliance. About 11 months ago she suffered considerable engine damage while at a major fire in a coal mine. She's (still) awaiting commission. Mk5 Pumper - the most common appliance in the fleet. Below is an older model Teleboom, a 2002 Scania 94G. To the right of it is a late 1990s model Freightliner. The FL80's certainly aren't popular with the firefighters - constant breakdowns, engine fires, and more than a few rollovers... ! Flachbau
What are your opinions on the Caprice Interceptor? I feel a bit uneasy about it, considering the back somewhat resembles the ninth generation Impala. I don't see them here up in NYS so much since none of the cities/towns own them, it's mostly just the state police/highway patrol Edited May 28, 2015 by Nick

I don't see them here up in NYS so much since none of the cities/towns own them, it's mostly just the state police/highway patrol I thought I read a while back that the Caprice and even the Taurus were bad ideas for areas that get lots of snowfall, now I dont study New York stuff much, but I do know that Lake Erie and Lake Ontario are major snow makers for a good part of the state. Ryan
Can't speak for the caprice, but at a lot of the RCMP detachments around here, the Taurus based interceptors now outnumber the Crown Vic interceptors. I've talked with Constables about them and they've said they don't have any issues with them and actually prefer the all wheel drive over the rear wheel drive. Not sure how exactly they preform in the snow but I have seen them out in snow storms so I can only guess they don't have any problems, though it is more common to see the Explorers and Explorer based interceptors and Tahoe's out in snow storms. Straypuft
For Akron Police Department, I think the plan was to try a few Taurus's, but I think they eventually decided to make the rest of the new fleet Explorers since we have so few Taurus's in the fleet and I am seeing new Explorers every few months replacing our Crown Vics, but there are still many Vics on the streets. Speaking of Crown Vics, can anyone imagine that some 20-30 years from now, they might be on display in police museums across the country?
Officer620
Speaking of Crown Vics, can anyone imagine that some 20-30 years from now, they might be on display in police museums across the country? Absolutely, without a doubt! The CVPI has been an icon of law enforcement for decades now, it certainly won't be forgotten. There are CVPIs all over the world in globally recognised liveries (LAPD black and whites, NYPD blue and whites) as tribute pieces/show cars. They entered the movie and television hall of fame years back, and have now become an international icon. It's not just the US that appreciates the mighty Crown Vic. Cheers! Officer620
I've been looking at importing one for years. Trouble is most states don't allow a left hand drive vehicle that new to be registered as a regular vehicle. There have been a few already in Australia that have popped up every now and then for sale, but it would be difficult to use as a daily runabout. I'm also aware of one painted a generic black and white livery with lights used as a display vehicle. Cheers!
Straypuft
65 miles of round trip travelling took us from Akron to Massillon to North Canton then to Hartville Starting off with the shots from Massillon: No one was at the front desk so I elected to shoot from the publicness of the sidewalk right next to the entrance to the police parking lot, Notice: please do not enter a fenced in police parking lot without permission, there is a decent chance you will be allowed in if you speak to the supervisor in charge inside the police station. Massillon Ohio Police Ford Explorer by Raymond, on Flickr Brand new vehicle Massillon Ohio Police Ford Taurus by Raymond, on Flickr We stopped off at the local highway Patrol post in North Canton, they were not willing to let us into the police vehicle lot but did offer to drive a vehicle around, but they did not have what I was looking for there so we left(I was looking for a new 2015 Tahoe) Then off to Hartville: Hartville did not have a fenced in lot, an officer did come out of the station and was interested in what we were doing, we had a please conversation, he enjoys the Explorers more than he did the CVPI's.
