AllenKS
I thought it was like 49 or some sh*t according to the people in the mapping thread? If your numbers are the correct ones, how would GTA IV's map scale then?

Realistic Steak Cult
So you are measuring pixels on a map photographed by a mobile phone? I guess thats enough for me today. GTAboob and nuer

Haha, yes, but I'm willing to bet we'll get a proper scan of that page really soon and it will still be VERY close to 19 square miles.

If your numbers are the correct ones, how would GTA IV's map scale then? So you're saying that Los Santos airport is about the size of the whole of the industrial district in Alderney? I didn't realise, I've never worked in KM in my life therefore have never had to convert them! A bit dumb of me, apologies lol Edit: 17 square miles is definitely big enough though. Also, I'd like a reply from that guy who scaled IV's map on to Los Santos... Edited September 10, 2013 by LennonNL

Bullsh*t Yeah it's not like an airport has been that big before, ...well, if you ignore Francis International Airport on that EXACT SAME LC MAP of course. satanicaleviathan
any one bitching about size is nuts... just match up the sizes of the airports for a rough estimate, i dont know the math like some of you folks, but if gta 5 is as interactive and awesome as we all pretty much know it will be, this is going to be a huge milestone in gaming. this last week is killing me, i loved 4, but this excedes alot of what we were expecting in 4. they listened to the fans alot more this time around, and i dont think anyone is going to hear from me for weeks, at least until online is up... but the real world, that sh*ts done. i just wana explore the stupid map already >_<
Fisha695
Here is the IV map set over the V map scaled roughly so that the runways on the airports are the same size. Here is that same scale size just with the IV map rotated a bit to fit over the land better. EDIT: So it turns out scaling off the airports may not be correct. On the image of the V map I have 1000ft on scale is roughly 77px in length. From the farthest point North to South it is 2,603px which works out to 33,805.194ft or 6.40 miles. From the farthest point East to West it is 1,827px which works out to 23,727.272ft or 4.49 miles. That would put it at around 28.736 square miles. Now looking at a map of IV that I have the height of Central Park is about 545px, in game that same distance is roughly 1,636ft so we will use that for scale. From the farthest point North to South is 3,360px which works out to 10,086.165ft or 1.91 miles. From the farthest point East to West it is 5,307px which works out to 15,930.737 or 3.01 miles. That would put it at around 5.749 square miles, and that includes the water inbetween the islands. That would put the V map at roughly 5 times the square mileage as the IV map. Now the IV map is pretty much entirely the city whereas V has tons of free-space so we'll compare the size of Los Santos to the size of the entire IV map. I'm used the Gray area on the V map for this determination and that includes the Docks/Airport. North to South = 1,020px which works out to 13,246.753ft or 2.50 miles. East to West = 844px which works out to 10,961.038ft or 2.07 miles. That would put the City of Los Santos at 5.175 square miles which would mean that the City of Los Santos is equal to roughly the entire IV map which would put my comparison scaling off the airports as wrong so let's look at the runway lengths haha. Ok in IV the runways are roughly 800px long which using my above scale would make them equal to 2,401.467ft Ok in V the runways are roughly 230px long which using the maps scale would make them equal to 2,987.012ft Now that explains why that map I made based off the runways would be a little off, but that still seems way to far off so IDK I give up l0l.
