PEN LETTER: Repeat topics/Backseat MODS/General forum rudeness

I agree completely with the OP here and glad this has been pinned. I've been a member on here for about a week and to be honest there's naff all respect on these boards. It's one of the reasons I probably wont be coming back after the game is released (no great loss I hear you say), but to be fair, while there are some great and funny members on here, there are a LOT of children on here, that essentially need to be either temp banned or educated how others how to behave on a forum (I'm not just on about creating identical topics - they should just be deleted, without question ASAP but if people are going to post 'gtfo or old or old and fake or old and fake and gay youre making the problem worse). Ironically, if you refrained from posting fake and gay or old and fake and gay and actually providing a link to the existing thread, you will see the problem dissipate very quickly. FACT.

 

The problem isn't helped by the fact there were 1000+ people viewing the boards earlier on. Being a mod (I know I've been one in the past on PESfan) is difficult and to be fair it must be a nightmare for them to keep any sort of order. They simply don't have the time to respond to every thread they lock with reasons, they simply just have to lock it. Remember they aren't paid to be here, they do it out of their own time, so while were all arguing how big the map is, they are trying to take in all that information as well as manage an environment that is ruined by pathetic trolling and completely (in some cases abhorrent) useless posts that offer nothing of value.

 

Personally, most of the grief comes from the immaturity of the posters. I really think once it's calmed down a bit on here, the owners of the boards need to look at the rules for posting and implement some kind of infraction system. Why should anyone get away with abusing other posters ESPECIALLY because their English isn't as good as theirs. Its f*cking rude and to be quite honest if I saw someone do that / say those kinds of things to someone in the street, I'd give em a f*cking hiding for being nasty.

 

As said, there's a lot of good folk on here, but there's a lot of kids who ruin it and make it harder to enjoy.

Welcome to GTA forums. Where anyone who THINKS they knows more than you about a f*cking video game can belittle other members. It's the place where beta ass children have a voice, and try their hardest to kiss the mods' asses by being the person who's the most intelligent, blunt, and edgy. In reality, they're arrogant, ignorant little maggots. You'll rarely see constructive criticism. It's usually "you f*cking idiot" or "use the search bar fa**ot". A guy with diabetes rushing to the hospital for some insulin because he did not have any left, and on his way there gets his by a truck delivering insulin to said hospital.

Not really sure where most of you have been the last decade, but this forum has the most active and sensible moderating I've ever seen.

 

Most forums have completely inactive moderators that don't want to tackle the problems their inactivity has bred. The V section here seems to be pretty good for reading multiple repeat topics that should be flamed. That being said, the number of pure "didn't read: lol" posts is a little excessive lately.

 

Is there no limit on creating topics in a day.

 

"Complainers come here" topics should be auto deleted; the trolls even in the title.

I have been a moderator myself some years ago on an MMO fansite and modding can be hectic. I do understand why moderators don't really have time to chat it up. That isn't really what a moderator is for. We had people who were responsible to keep the forum members occupied but they weren't called moderators. I do believe the forum was a lot less aggressive than this one but we still had our fair share of "in before the lock" and other such nonsense posts.

 

Even though the amount of reports were hectic we did still take the time to note why a thread got locked. I don't know what the policy is there though. Maybe there is a lot less official rules on how to deal with threads or posts which are against the rules of conduct.

 

And about repeat topics deserving to be flamed, why? Nobody is forcing anyone to read a repeat topic. It doesn't help anyone to just insult the forum member for doing so. It is always best to either just ignore or report if you must. Calling someone a retard or an idiot doesn't help anyone.

Ive been here since 2007, joined before GTA IV came out.

 

This place was THE place to come for leaks/theories/speculation and analysis; now its devolved into something thats a shadow of its former self. But, Ive been kind of been calling out the MODS a lot as of late, and I probably could have just PM'd them as many people would suggest; however, I wanted to see if my fellow forum members were in agreement so Ive been creating topics about such.

 

ITs helped, apparently, because this topic is now pinned; though who knows for how long.

This forum should have a I.Q test and a spelling test before you are allowed to make any posts. The OP is right, the mods could be doing more to reduce the amount of backseat moderating and pointless spam posts. "InB4Lock" is a combination of all 3 points and i think users should be given like, 2 hours of no posting privileges for it.

Yes they are active, but they do not participate in discussions with the rest of us. I would like them to be more active in that sense, rather than locking threads that do not warrant it.

 

Granted, they do an excellent job of removing useless threads but I wish they were more engaged in the community.
