If you look at any of the trailers, the cuts and sequences are specifically angled away from long sight lines and other points of reference. To make sure the city of Los Santos and the desert/Alamo Sea are never in the same line of sight. We never got a good sky shot from the ocean, overlooking Los Santos and the background behind it. Most shots have always been angled South/West into the oceans, but never that much inland. You'll notice when they do get stuff to show up in the background of the city, they do these street level, from-the-ground-up views to make the city scale look much larger than it really is. They used these ground up views a lot in the desert scenes so the sky is shown moreso than what is in the background on the ground. I also think LA was chosen again, because they had an excuse to use the "smog effect" which gives the sky this hazy look to it. This gives off the illusion that the distance between you and the buildings is much further; being that things amidst the smog get blurred out as if they were far away, when in fact those objects aren't really that far at all. So R* just used little tricks of the developer/marketing trade here and there to compliment the smaller city portion of the map. Their trailers were a product of select scene selection, leaving out any clips that may reveal too much or any clips that may cast their map in a negative light. But what do you want them to do? Put a disclaimer in every video telling people "Beware, city in trailer is smaller than it appears"? It's your alls fault if you got let down really. R* is just making do with what they have. It's a big map, they just don't wanna spoil anything. Wait till the games out to judge the map size. Just the North and a lot of the coast seem to be unlabeled so you think its under populated. I think there are various maps to show off locations. I mean I knew it all along, but I didn't say anything because I thought everyone was fine with the map. Then I saw the outrage and hoped this could calm people down and help them make sense of things. I'm sure they would've done a lot more but they are kind of limited to these older platforms and what they can do. Wait til next gen GTA before you start criticizing them for the maps they create. This is because they dont have real competition and their games are still best. Two, this is somehow wrong? How? I just can't understand how, even though rockstar is pulling off the impossible with this game, all most people can do here is complain. The map is going to be PLENTY BIG. It's NOT about size. If it was, just cause 2 would be the best open world game ever. But it's not. So just wait until you play the game. What happened to everyone who said "If you want a bigger map then just go play Just Cause 2?" It's funny how people change their tune to cater to their own argument and save face. Look R* put a sh*tload of time and effort to make Los Santos an authentic quality encarnation of LA, but the rest of the map? Could've been thrown together like JC2's map was. Not quite copy/paste but still relatively easy in comparison to the city. Yeah the rest of the map is 4-5x the size of Los Santos, but I guarantee Los Santos took 100x longer to develop and create. So to say the rest of the map will be just as quality as the city itself is pretty foolish.
